Best hobie setup video I've seen. Very inspiring.
I've been searching for an aluminum kayak trailer and I've looked at those Nitros. That is the exact setup I want for my new trailer! I just wish I could weld aluminum... Very impressive, and expensive, setup!
Nice setup. Thank you for the walkthrough.
Great video, nice set up. I have BD loading gear as well and had problems with pulling them out until I sprayed the interior with WD40. Works like a charm... Just need to reapply every 10-15 deployments.
Thanks I tried that too. It helps
Hats off to you. That is the definition of craftsmanship.
Wow what a rig how are the drives I heard there’s lots of problems any experience with it
Would you ever sell the entire set up?
Nice setup! I'm expecting soon to install either the Newport Vessels NK300 or the Torqeedo 1103 on my Native Slayer Propel 13. My kayak presently rides in the back of my pickup truck - I'm a fellow "old guy" so a trailer might be in my future. However, I do not plan to ride down the street with my motor attached. I'm hoping that quick connect functions will assist in motor install/removal, but also it will make it easier to lower the aft end off of my truck bed.
Hi Mich yep the Torqeedo might be the way to go but for short runs, your fine with the motor on and in the down position, Just add a strap, and thats all you have to remove when you get to the ramp. The toolless clamp they give you can be a pain and sometimes be tough on your fingers. cheers
Fantastic video! I learned so much and I really appreciate the links you provided. Thank you sir. :)
Really good stuff sir! I just learned a lot. You have my respect!
Nice work - makes me wish I had metalworking skills - some things wood just doesn't do.
Very nice. Thanks for sharing.
Very informative. Nicely designed and done. Tight Lines!
You Sir are brilliant. Love the ingenuity!
Nice set up!
Ciao dove posso acquistare questo suporto motore ?😊
Have you ever had any problems with your hobie I been hearing problems with the Hobie Boeing twisty I don’t know because I thinking about buy one
Not really, that issue could arise if you have the Hobie or any kayak sitting in full sun at 90F and either tieing it down too tight or not storing it correctly. Yep, you could warp it but that goes for all kayaks as they are made of plastic.
How many miles can you go what is the voltage of your batteries I wish hobie build better rod storages and more tackle storages too
That really depends on how fast you want to go. Full throttle for maybe 25 mins but at say 25% depending on wind & tide, maybe 4-5 hours but if you plan your journey, in other words, head into the wind in the morning and cruise home with the wind you can get a full day fishing no problem.
Great video and nice setup! I love the trailer. Do you have to take the Torqueedo off when you transport it on the highway?
If I'm going local say a few miles or up to half an hour, I will tie it down in the down or deployed position and everything is ready to go when I get to the ramp etc. if you try and travel with it in the up or horizontal position you end up bending the top arm but for long travels I take it off.
@@patrickmurphy5091 Thanks for the info. I was curious, I want to pick one up soon!
Genius 👏🏻
On your motor lift platform there is a line guide before the pulley. Where might I find one of those?

I think its this one but if I recall it was a Harmony product that it used to be available with Austin Kayak but they are out of business. Cheers good luck
Interesting setup. Are you sure that the Hobie boat frame can handle the weight of that electric motor hanging off the back while traveling and hitting pot holes on rough roads? I'd be concerned about long term damage. I know on bass boats there are transom supports to support a motor. Did you get any advice or recommendations on that aspect of whether to leave the motor on or take it off? I have the same motor, leaving it and the battery pack on would be a dream come true. Very well thought out rig on both the trailer and the boat.
When traveling locally 10 - 15 miles I don't have an issue and I leave the Torqeedo on but I keep it in the trolling position and tie it off behind the trailer. If you try and travel with it in the upright position it bounces too much. For long distances, I would take it off. The www.innovativesportsman.com/store/p143/Aluminum_Torqeedo_Ultralight__A_Mount_Bracket%28_Bracket_Only_No_Rocker%29.html#/
is pretty strong and has held up well. The battery I leave it on all the time and it's lithium so it's not too heavy.
I have the same setup. I also have two extra lithium batteries for livescope and two 10 inch monitors. So I have about 25 pounds in my box. I’d love to leave that battery in and that motor. Right now I’m putting the kayak in the truck, and the motor, and batteries in the truck. Putting them on again in the water, taking them off when I’m finished in the water, putting them back in truck, and then unloading when I get home. That’s getting old. I know the Mount can handle the motor hanging back there. Just wondered if hobie was ok with that stress on their plastic boat. Thanks for the reply.
@@joemason1728 Yep joe same thing just got tired of the loading and unloading but when it comes to stress the only conclusion I could come up with was Hobies issue with warping due to incorrect storage etc and in my opinion, its a sun & heat issue, if you place any kayak on roof in 100F it's going to warp if not laid flat or tied down to much. When I placed the rollers on the trailer I had a good look at the position of the Hobie cradles and matched them up as close as I could. The innovative sportmans bracket does a good job spreading that weight on the back, just make sure you check the 2 bolts on the Hobie handle now and again. I've since added a Motorguide xi3 to the front and another Lithium battery on the back and have traveled from NJ to NC with no problem. I take the motors off but the batteries stay in. Is Hobie ok with the stress probably not but when you drill 1 hole in a Hobie its bye bye warranty anyway.
ua-cam.com/video/zA2ufYc1-qU/v-deo.html For remote launches and places where folks bitch about boat trailers not being allowed. I prefer it to the trailer sometimes as parking a trailer can be an issue in tight places. I use it in Maine & the Bay of Fundy trips.
Have you had any issue with installing the Boondox landing gear?
Not really, it's a pain to get the support bars on the inside, you will have to be creative to get the nuts and bolts in. I lost the little Allan crews that go underneath so it kinda slides back & forth. I will have to contact boondox again to get some as those little suckers are so tiny and very easily lost.
