i know endeavor's trying his best to change and has recognized he's made so much mistakes and caused so much hurt and the story basically tells us that people can change and sometimes people lose themselves in life without meaning to, but i also appreciate that they don't actually sweep all the hurt he's caused under the rug just because he's had a redemption arc. He has to live with his children still hating him, he has to live with his relationship with his wife never being the same, he has to live with his son being a villain knowing full well he caused it. I also loved that scene where midoriya tells shoto that if he really did hurt him a lot, he didn't have to forgive him and it was alright. The todoroki family's situation imo honesty validates a lot of struggles estranged and/or abused households have, as sad as it is
Made the story extremely relatable for me. First time I've shed a tear for a story with abusive parents. They summed it up well

I do feel extremely bad for Touya, he didn't deserve any of that but I also feel really bad for Shoto. He didn't want to be Endeavour's masterpiece. He just wanted a normal life. Touya shouldn't have blamed Shoto for being abused as well.
unfortunately, that is the reality of abuse. horikoshi (mangaka) succeeded in portraying the effects of abuse and how messy and horrid it is, even though he 100% did not mean to.
it's terrible that child abuse very often turns siblings against one another, especially if it's a scapegoat v "golden child" (touya v shouto) situation, but it happens. we also see this to an extent with tenko & hana -- how she was willing to throw tenko under the bus to avoid their dad's wrath. situations like that will inevitably lead to contempt even though they are all suffering as a result of the abuser

This mentality caused Toya to want to become stronger and hid the fact that he has been training. He got mad at his wife for not stopping him from training and when he went to the mountain on fire he was heartbroken
After Toya (presumably) died he lost hope of making a child that will have fire and ice until shoto was born, that when he went psycho dictator on shoto and that’s when he fully neglected his children, so endeavor is not the best at all but he’s not the person to only care about the perfect child the entire time as he love his wife and he loved his children

No one's talking about her but the tears on Rei's face and her eyes resembles everything, fear, trauma, pain, and uncomfortable aura. Imagine being the spouse of an abusive husband and the second most powerful hero, and having to raise 5 kids alone. She wasn't exactly the perfect mother figure but you know she tried her best, she even forgave the man who made her insane. I just love her.

@cleo2294 I have a feeling that you aren't understanding the situation? Endeavor drove her so insane that at one point, she couldn't stand anything that resembled him. She couldn't stand the look of her own kids(not all, but I do believe Touya and Shoto). She snapped. That's why she poured the water on Shoto's face. Uncalled for? Yes. No reason? No. Excused? Yes.
Endeavor drove her insane and that's why she did it. And, just to further prove my point, people in court can plead insanity, even for murder. They obviously won't be excused every time, but it still happens.
Personally, I believe it is morally wrong to hold Shoto's scar against his mother.

@@dex_KLN I wasn’t going to reply but I’m kind of tired of people saying this. Dabi and AFO are villains they’re supposed to be evil and do horrible things or you have no plot. Endeavor is a hero so if he does actions that are comparable to a villain’s people will of course hate him. Neither of the actions are morally right but one is supposed to be good and that makes all the difference.

But, he's still responsible for everything that happened in his family. Just like, Dabi is responsible for choosing the path of becoming a villain, and should be held accountable and pay the price for the horrible deeds he did. He had a choice, Shoto was abused too, and with all the trauma he still turned out as a good kid. Dabi was failed by his parents, but he also failed himself by becoming a villain.

He’s not a monster, he was just caught up in his ideals, It’s something every man experience’s. At one point in our lives a man craves to be the strongest, so much that he’ll put that view even on his son. But just like any man endeavor can learn from this mistakes and make a change and he did.
I feel extremely bad for the mother. She was forced into marriage because of her quirk. She never asked to be abused. She never asked for her future children to have to go through this trauma. She never asked to be sold to enji. She never asked for any of this. I'm glad she's getting help. And I'm glad shoto, and his siblings, especially enji, are trying to get over the past and be a family again.

While it's up to the victim to forgive I personally can't forgive endeavour for what he did even though his entire arc, much like bakugo's and a few others, is about how people can change for the better.
But we've seen what he's done and not even to the full extent. He's robbed his children of their entire childhood and stunted them in many ways to different levels of extremity. He's SA'd his wife by forcing her to have more children even though she didn't want more but she couldn't say no due to his abusive behavior and because she faced physical abuse when she did say no.
And while different people have different levels of forgiveness of people's actions I do feel like some people just don't realize, or understand how serious, the levity of exactly what he's done to the people that were supposed to be his family.
And while the Dabi of now isn't forgiveable in the slightest either, it's heartbreaking to see what turned him down the path of no return. He was just a kid, a naive child that should've been protected but was unlucky enough to be with the circumstances that he was.
He's not a real character, none of them are, but this happens in real life and those people end up changed in ways that never should've happened in the first place. It's truly depressing to think about let alone discuss. You can only hope that those people can find peace and freedom from the life that they had to suffer through.
Edit: I also want to say that I do acknowledge his efforts, he is atoning for his wrongdoings.
I can't deny that because it does a disservice to any form of atonement no matter how small. That sends the message that no matter what you do, even if it was a small thing, you will never be acknowledged for your efforts.
However, I will still never like him or "forgive" him as a character overall. Good on him for changing but, to me, it's far too late and I've left him in the dust.

Dabi is waaaaay past sociopathic stage.. he is a mass murderer and a raging psychopath, his father wanted him to stop using the quirk because he knows one day it is gonna kill him. I feel sorry for Rei in this family, that poor mother had to endure that physical and mental torture and that emotional manipulation for years!
