for devs, a little tip. if working with someone like this license out in batch sizes where they pay you first. if that means the per unit license cost being a lot smaller so be it, it's still worth it do it that way. if there's some exclusivity put in an expiry date for that etc. otherwise you can get locked in a situation where they have the physical publishing rights but aren't making batches, aren't selling it and you ain't getting any money - but you can't do it yourself either. and auditing them can be a nightmare so think about that beforehand - like if you can get the unique serials from carts or even just on the box or not. if you can't how are you supposed to know if people were sold extra copies they didn't tell you about?
Yeah I pre-ordered Chained Echoes for a long time and even though I already got the digital release on Steam and Switch, I was promised a physical version from these idiots and time and time again they kept delaying it by making excuses. It's almost like they are trying to take my money and run. Know this that pre-ordering these physical release are not like us pledging to back a project. These are legit purchases, these idiots must be held accountable for taking our money and not delivered.
I wouldn’t feel bad for the devs they got their money from inking the deal, they should have done their homework before putting us their customers into this position and choosing a reputable vendor instead of going for the money. Dev got their money we unfortunately are the ones left holding the empty bag.
@phoenixcerberus that’s not how it works. At least not with these contracts. Blame the devs maybe for signing a bad deal or chalk it up to a learning experience but don’t make assumptions like they have been paid.

Something just doesn’t add up here. why would they rush into a bad deal. I’d understand this on a poorly developed badly reviewed game struggling to get their game to physical. But Chained Echoes doesn’t seem like it should have had difficulty finding the right physical publisher. In the end fans of their game were left in this predicament something just doesn’t sit right here. But yeah luckily this experience did open my eyes into researching the publisher of these type of companies.

You should do a deep dive into Dispatch Games as well. They took pre -orders 4-5 years ago and never gave out games and do nothing but make excuses saying games are still coming
I'm glad I never went through with pre-ordering chained echoes, I routinely check back to see if it was ever actually released so I could guarantee it getting to me and yeah, probably never happening.

I mean. I know it sucks in the USA, but customer protection in the UK/EU is solid. All these people should be seeking refunds and getting themselves out of this company. If they attempt to block you, you go to they payment processor and they WILL process it if you prove you’re in the right.
I tried to get a refund on my Crimzon Clover physical after yet another delay, and PayPal told me the supplier wasn't part of their protection scheme. Eventually got the refund after pushing FPG though

I was excited for physical Sydney Hunter for Switch, still waiting at least 2 years, lost count. One thing with LRG, at least their service dept responds to me if I have questions or concerns. Super Rare games is another really good one that always comes through! And they're in the UK.
First Press Games has bitten off more than they can chew. They need to stick to Standard Edition games only. They're trying to do too much and they just don't have the financial resources or the credit to see them thru the launch of multiple releases. It sucks for the their customers.

Important Update on first press games blog. If anyone has pre-ordered the game, check your email's spam folder for a free steam key of Chained Echoes. I just checked today and redeemed the game into my steam library. Just wanted to make sure everyone knows about this because I haven't seen anyone talk about this update.
Previous employee here. And I will defend these guys despite me not leaving on the very best terms. I will not get into exact details, since I don’t like trouble - but I can assure you FPG is legit and just ran into some serious production troubles with some titles and manufacturing partners that wound up holding up their whole line up. Their recent updates seem like they are steadily catching up to their best ability though. Try ordering anything that’s in stock and they’ll usually ship it quite quickly - Why would they do that if they are scammers?
Appreciate the insights. Like I say in the video it feels like they bit off more than they can chew and probably should ease off the gas pedal with extra special editions and promises they can’t keep with MULTIPLE developers. I’ve spoken with one in particular that is VERY frustrated with the situation. May not be an outright scam, but certainly on a path to end up there if it keeps going those route.

However, FPG held back with further pre-orders because of the problematic delays: since Chained Echoes in 2022 there hasn’t been any new Switch/PS4 announcement (despite some great planned games being ready for it.) Newsletters also showed proof of progress in the form of manufactured cartridges and more. Give them a few more weeks, what they’ve shown recently points towards quite a few products rolling out soon. Putting oil into the fire won’t make the situation better…

Then they said they'd refund me. 5 months later not refunded, still having to argue with them and my order says "in preparation". I don't have any sympathy for them. I'd rather order 50 games through LRG and wait 5-8 months vs ordering 1 game through these guys ever again.
I ordered and was successful in getting Rival Megagun from them a couple months ago. Then looking at my old emails with First Press Games, I had forgotten that I preordered Crimson Clover from them...and it's been so long in preorder status that upon closer inspection, I preordered it twice months apart from each other. I am, however, thinking about ordering Natsuki Chronicles. They seem safe for games they have in stock.
Preordered Chained Echoes, first time buying anything from these guys. Didn't receive anything till today, bought the game digital. Never going to buy from these guys ever again and will only warn others. 😅
Honestly buy this point all the developers that are having them make games for them should get in contact with each other. Have one lawyer represent them and have the contracts broken then go to another place like limited run, play Asia, super rare games. I'm sure the lawyer can even help force refunds to people. If there is no money there is no money. The customers were already scamed. The person or people could possibly end up serving jail time hopefully. The customers that have already been screwed over could possibly never receive a refund by this point. At least if the developers get out of contract with these people they can be made.
Chained Echoes has a better chance to one day be in our hands, since it's one of the bigger game on FGP. Chained Echoes team have a bigger leverage to make things happen. I'm sad for people that bought smaller games; they will likely be the ones never seing their product.

I've ordered 3 games from FPG: Ginga Force, Natsuki Chronicles, and Crimzon Clover. I have received the first 2 games. Still haven't received Crimzon Clover, though it seems that they are finally releasing it. Do not order from this come, they are terrible. Limited Run Games are much better then FPG in general.
I saw this and i really wanted to get chained echoes but i saw bad reviews about this company but then again im waiting on over a year for a game from limited run that the exact game i pre ordered has already been sent to some people and sold in their retail store cus i see ebay listings of it while i still havent gotten it yet.
