May 29, 2021 Rest in peace, friend: www.rollingsto... From the March 16, 1971 episode of The Johnny Cash Show, Cash introduces then-rising star BJ Thomas and his latest hit.
No voice compares. Music is often subjective, then you have this voice with non-replicable inflections, resonance, timber, falsetto and a tonal quality that can calm the masses. Interesting that he seldom gets the recognition his voice actually merits, then again people have to be told what to think in regards to music quality, hence the modern subpar artists who have been marketed to the masses of young people.
Yeahhh!!! LOVELY !!! I love it. Thank you for posting this video. B.J.Thomas is timeless. His voice amazing and a great song,by THE BEST SINGER OF ALL TIMES ! GREAT performance, B E A U T I F U L !!!! LOVE you, B.J. T homas !
BJ had such an incredible voice--and really looked great here, too. But I hate the arrangement (especially that ending): the strings are a little out of control. And I don't know why they sped up the rhythm (time?)--but this song need to be a little slower, as when he recorded it.
Love this guy wen i was young and still do at 60 yrs. Was watching the rerun of Butch Cassidy and Sundance kid the other day and heard his raindrops keep falling song and it brought me back to my youth days when i was in love. Amazing , soulful voice
Shortly before my husband of 37 years passed away he wrote down songs for me to listen to by BJ as we both felt he has the most magnetic voice of all singers, my husband wanted me to be able to feel the emotion of how his love was for me, he chose BJ'S songs along with Dr Hooks songs, especially "A little bit more" and their other songs and I'm so very grateful I have these to listen to, I only hope that these singers know how much their songs touch the lives of the listeners , bless you all and Garth Brooks for if tomorrow never comes, just hoping it gets passed to them how much comfort these songs give me
Back when the music was truly great! BJ is definitely underrated for a man who sold over 70 million freaking records! Even though he's pushing 80 yrs old, I'd pay money to see him before any of the younger current artists. With the exception of a young man named Mo Pitney. If you don't know of him, look him up. Since the unfortunate death of one of my favorites, Daryle Singletary, Mo has picked up the torch of keeping traditional country on the map. Great voice, gracious, caring and very respectful of the artists before him. He's only 27.
Used to play this song in Dutenhofen Germany when I was in the Army in 1971. I used to sing it to my newborn son who was born in Germany. Wonderful wife wonderful life.
B.J. Thomas was originally from the Houston area. His group were "the Triumps." Went to a HS dance one time when they were playing. RIP, fellow Texan, you will be missed.
I have loved his voice since I was a little girl riding in the back seat of my parents car. Everyone was so much more attractive back then, than they are today.
Moosejaw, I still listen to BJ Thomas's music because he was given a gift to sing with a beautiful voice. I understand what you are saying, but he was a handsome young man and yes we all grow old. I find people more attractive during those days. Seems like they had more inner beauty.
Angela Russell - he has a beautiful voice, most people still follow him. my comment simply said it is very shallow to love someone for their looks in response to the other posts.
I love to watch the video because of the way he just looks so into it. The look and sound are pretty perfect too. You can tell him a mile away because of the way he moves his hands and body.
Hello darlin', my it's good to hear you I'm at the railroad station in St. Paul How are all the folks, I'd love to see 'em But, girl, I'd love to see you, most of all Well I've been starin' at the rain And I've been thinking Ever since the train left Montreal, You know I thought I'd always love This life I'm living But now I know I love you most of all Many times before I know I swore That I'd come home to stay But it always seems That the foolish dreams And trains got in my way Tomorrow there'll be snow in Minnesota But I won't be around to watch it fall Oh I'll be heading for an old familiar station Just hopin' you still love me...most of all And girl, you know I love you Most of all I miss you baby, most of all Mm Mm Oh I miss you baby, I miss you baby, most of all Mm Mm Oh I miss you baby I miss you baby, most of all Mm Mm Mm Oh I miss you baby I miss you baby, most of all Mm
My sister dated BJ Thomas when I was just a kid she's a few years older than I am anyways he she never thought he would make it big or do anything about it and then all the sudden boom he hit it big and my sister even to this day refuses to listen to any of his music on the radio or the stereo I guess what they say karma's a mother and payback is a b**** hahaha
The original recorded version of this song is one of my two all-time top favorite songs by any singer ever. (The other one is also by B.J. Thomas ;-)). The vocals of this performance are different, of course, but equally as good as the terrific original recording. (Trivia: the released record was the first take!) The music is a different story. It's Johnny Cash's house band, the core of which is very much a country band (hear the twangy guitar and the stand-up bass?). It's obviously been equipped to do it's best to try to do pop songs, such as this one, when called upon to do so, with mixed results. And yes, as mentioned below, it's been sped up, faster than the original, presumably to save time on the TV show. Anyway, I'm very glad the performance happened and that it was posted here. There aren't too many performances of B.J.'s from that time period on UA-cam. Thanks for posting!
To This day I’m Sorry I didn’t go back to the studio n meet Mr JR Cash at a Production Co. In N Hollywood, I was a workin Man, but I did meet Mrs B.J.Thomas in N Hollywood Briefly N Told her how BJ was 1 of my favorite singers, Since I grew up w Music Implanted in my ❤️ Both Turned their Lives Around ... HOW BEAUTIFULL HE IS

Why does God overbless some people and underbless others?
He's just being God.
With all due respect, some people utilize the gifts God gives them . . . and . . . some people don't
Jerry Casebolt
How about with regards to the physical?
Phil Baugh. I dont know, but this is one of them.
This man is pure perfection...I’ve loved him for a very long time 🙏❤️🙏

THOSE EYES.....MY LORD. 💗
Now THAT man can sing ... wow! Such a lyrical carry in his voice. Listen to those rides in his vocals -- those musical trills.

Seen him 4 times. So good, seriously, so good. His pitch is perfect
Live he is the best singer I have heard. I met him 40 yearsago at Clarksion University. He is the real deal. A great talent who got better with age
T Jordan I also saw him live at Evangel U 40 years ago. I was in awe of his voice. Somehow I didnt get how great his voice was from recordings
What did you think of him when you met him
B.J. Thomas was originally from the Houston area. His group were "the Triumps." Went to a HS dance one time when they were playing. RIP, fellow Texan, you will be missed.
He's amazing! I love his voice and his look!
God I love B.J. Thomas!! One of his Aussie fans.
BJ Thomas and Johnnie Rivers the two performers who can sing a song and own it. Their music truly touches my heart!
BJ Thomas sure can sing
you got that right! :)
agreed
A great artist since Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid...remember Raindrops Keep falling on my Head? Salute!
I have loved his voice since I was a little girl riding in the back seat of my parents car. Everyone was so much more attractive back then, than they are today.
Angela Russell the latter part of your comment made me laugh
Angela Russell something must have happened to the gene pool
BEAUTY FADES FOR EVERYBODY. If you only love a person because of HOW they look, you will soon be disappointed.

So sad he has passed away. Loved his mellow voice and his ability to manipulate it. Heaven must be having some wonderful concerts now.
Fantastic voice...and those beautiful eyes!!
Two great entertainers on the stage at once. John Cash and BJ Thomas.. They don't make man like that anymore. 🇺🇸
Hard to come up with a favorite song, but this one is well played through my life... Excellent performace as always!

Hello darlin', my it's good to hear you
I'm at the railroad station in St. Paul
How are all the folks, I'd love to see 'em
But, girl, I'd love to see you, most of all
Well I've been starin' at the rain
And I've been thinking
Ever since the train left Montreal,
You know I thought I'd always love
This life I'm living
But now I know I love you most of all
Many times before
I know I swore
That I'd come home to stay
But it always seems
That the foolish dreams
And trains got in my way
Tomorrow there'll be snow in Minnesota
But I won't be around to watch it fall
Oh I'll be heading for an old familiar station
Just hopin' you still love me...most of all
And girl, you know I love you
Most of all
I miss you baby, most of all
Mm
Mm
Oh I miss you baby,
I miss you baby, most of all
Mm
Mm
Oh I miss you baby
I miss you baby, most of all
Mm
Mm
Mm
Oh I miss you baby
I miss you baby,
most of all
Mm
Sounds as good today's as he always has. Great voice and humble man.
They called him the man with a voice and a half.
That's beautiful! And Cash got the half a voice left over and learned how to use it. :)
I used to read the interview of some one in American studios they called his voice "voice of the thearter".
Great singer, and I like them tall, dark and handsome!
Saw him a couple weeks ago. In a word> Incredible! And he's 75 years old!!
That is super cool to hear! Thanks.

Elvis was his friend !
My older sister used to date him
I just finished reading his book from 1978. He talked about substance abuse a lot.
