I have an aluminum Grumman, when trying to recover from a capsize it holds a lot of water when rolled back upright. Is this the canoe or something I'm doing wrong?
Probably both. It isn't just the material but also the shape of the canoe and your ability to break any suction created by the water. Trying to flip a canoe by yourself in open water is super challenging. Paddle with other folks and learn the T rescue.
I immediately noticed the bow person not feathering her blade as she moved to the "reach" position, which she also missed. The constant carrying of the paddle forward as she did will lead to fatigue and soreness in the shoulders.

another way that i was taught for canoeing is that the heaviest person sit in the back because it lifts up the front more and make it easier to turn.

They should also say the bow person is the "eyes" of the canoe, especially paddling streams or water with lots of hazards.

Yup. That's not a problem. You have more control when kneeling, but much more comfort sitting.

The title is misleading. This video explains very, very little on how to paddle a canoe.
Yeah, pretty useless video. Showing how to rescue a canoe when there is another canoe with you was just silly.
