Tks Jim again for the valuable information on all your videos! LOL… I feel like I’ve to take notes and pictures of a lot of the unique plants/shrubs/trees, etc, to further explore on my own when time permits!! Tks again, and please keep them coming!!
Dr. Dirr gives great tours with his commentary! You can tell he has so much info on every plant, but has to shorten it down - which isn't easy to do as you're walking along looking at everything. Well done! Yes to fall color in a part 3, if possible.
I'm way too old to be adopted but I'd love to be your second Katie Dr. Dirr. Proud to have loved Georgia enough to decide to stay 42 years ago. I could watch hours of this Jim! My dirt road is full of Baptisia. Thanks for the seed advice Dr. Dirr.
Thank you thank you thank you!!!! And please thank Dr. Dirr!! After your first tour with him I requested his book for Christmas. It's wonderful and has so much excellent information for anyone who loves hydrangeas. I have followed you for many years. Keep up the great work!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and that of so many other experts in the field. Love the variety you provide in your videos. Best wishes
I am 68 and starting a new garden. I often think that I may never live to see a lot of the things I plant get really big. Dr. Dirr reminded me just how much can develop in nine or ten years. Those trees are fabulous! I suppose even if I were much older, it's not the final product (which of course doesn't exist in gardening), but the process that is what gardening is all about.
Watched this twice Jim. Dr. Dirr is so fun to listen to. A wealth of knowledge. If we all could love our work as much as he does, what a wonderful place it would be. Certainly beautiful! Thank you! Made my day.
Absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this! Dr. Dirr reminds me of my dad 😊 I am so grateful ♥ I am a perpetual student, as we should all be, and appreciate the time and effort it take to assemble the content. Thank you!
thank you Jim, and a BIG thank you to Dr. Dirr ... always so gracious to open his garden to anyone who is interested - to share his knowledge and his incredible enthusiasm. He is a treasure to gardener's all over the world !!! the last time I visited the "arboretum" lawn was covered in red clover with paths mown thru ... it was absolutely glorious !!!! always something exciting around every corner ...
Thank you Jim for capturing this free flowing conversational tour with Dr. Dirr. He is sooo interesting to listen to, so freely sharing his vast knowledge of plants. I will watch these two videos multiple times because there is so much to learn. I’ve used his books as reference source, but this man can get you excited to learn! Look forward to more of these conversations.
Dr Dirr is a precious man and of course so so stellar in Horticulture!! ALWAYS LOVE VISITING HIS GARDEN!!! So SO GORGEOUS!!!!THANK YOU SO MUCH JIM &DR DIRR FOR GIVING US A PEEP INTO A FANTASTIC SPACE WHAT A TRUE TREASURE DR DIRR IS!!!! 👍💕
I love these tours you do. Dr. Dirr is right about planting more diverse trees and shrubs. Why is it that some years things are available and then they are not (or you never see them again), while others are always available?
Jim, I could listen to Dr. Dirr all day long. He has a tremendous wealth of knowledge to share with everyone, and I'm looking forward to a Part 3 episode. I love that gorgeous pink Distylium shrub and wish that I could grow one of them here in my zone 5a garden. ~Margie
You have given us so many great interviews, with people I've heard about, but never seen. Wonderful chat. I love his enthusiasm and just down to earth manor. Love how he said the great God who has created all this for our pleasure!
Thanks for taking us along on the tour, I loved hearing about the trees and shrubs from Dr. Dirr. The perspective of a seasoned plant breeder is priceless.
A+ Putman. More with the man, 'Fall color tour' Please. From his Manual, I find that I base so much of my own opinion on plants on the Landscape Value and Additional Notes sections of each plants description. Every time I look around at what I've planted I hear Dirr's descriptions in my head. There must be many others who do also.
Baptisias are gorgeous! I have one in my front yard, and I wouldn’t mind having more! Honestly, I have grown weary of Azaleas and Loropetalums being from the south. Thank you for the tour! Such inspiration and a pleasure to watch each one that you do. 😍oh my! That Golden Larch!! So beautiful!
Here in NJ, zone 7, I have a 5 acres of predominantly white oaks that are dying. Climate change? I appreciate seeing Dr. Dirr’s arboretum. I’ve have his books too. Now I’m going to get his new one .
Wow! The last time I was there was in 2013. It's amazing how much everything has grown and how many more plants he has added to the landscape. Always a joy getting a Dr. Dirr tour! He is a wealth of knowledge and has a true passion. A tour of some of the arboreta in Spartanburg, SC would be awesome. I'm sure Dr. Kevin Parris at Spartanburg Community College would be happy to show you around.
I love that he touched on tree planting spacing. You can plant much closer than what most people recommend. Trees grow fine close together in a forest, same in a residential backyard.
I really do not understand why more people do not consider Styrax japonicus, particularly when creating an allee given its naturally formal habit. No room for that here, but we did sneak in one Stryrax japonicus Evening Light, which has a lovely purple cast…
I just visited Dr Dirr yesterday and love the viburnum nudum little cherub. I looked on line and cannot find the plant ! I want this plant. Can you tell me where I can find it.?
Absolutely beautiful! The way that everything stands out against the color of the home is beautiful. Mite damage question- a bobo hydrangea I have under a crape myrtle beside my home has mite damage that affecting almost half the leaves on the 3 yr plant. Will the leaves come back normal next year or is It permanently damaged? The affected leaves are curled inward and tiny compaired to the other half of the plant. Zone 7b central NC, thanks in advance for anyone who can offer info!
What a treasure Dr. Dirr is! Jim, you have done a great service to plant lovers everywhere by recording this wonderful man in his own garden.
That story about collecting acorns in Home Depot parking lot made me laugh out loud. 😂 Glad he got a great tree out of it.
The old gentlemen love to talk--can't get a word in, lol. Love them!
Perfect Sunday afternoon viewing.
Tks Jim again for the valuable information on all your videos! LOL… I feel like I’ve to take notes and pictures of a lot of the unique plants/shrubs/trees, etc, to further explore on my own when time permits!! Tks again, and please keep them coming!!
There are so few people as dedicated to their field as Dr. Dirr. What a treat to watch him talk plants and show us his private garden.

What a wonderful tour! I could easily listen to him chat longer. Yes! A fall tour would be extra special.

I love babtisia too and have several varieties at my home garden as well as the native bed I take care of at the local botanical gardens
I'm glad he is planting native plants for pollinators.
Thanks so much for the baptisia seed lesson.
Really enjoyed both episodes with Dr. Dirr. He is a wealth of knowledge!
Dr. Dirr is a true inspiration, and an enthusiastic walking encyclopedia! Fantastic! 🌲 🌳 🌲

Thoroughly delightful, I really enjoyed every minute of this tour!
Visited Athens a month ago for the first time! Beautiful! Dr. Dirr is a gem!!!
Thank you for this. I can only hope this level of mastery continues into the future of plantsmen.

Always enjoy the garden tours
Now that’s a garden tour.
Wonderful tour and so many beautiful plants 🥰
Wonderful tour…Dr. Dirr is a wealth of knowledge. I could hang out in that garden all day! Do you have a favorite of his books?
I love that he touched on tree planting spacing. You can plant much closer than what most people recommend. Trees grow fine close together in a forest, same in a residential backyard.
What a gem! Thanks for introducing us to this knowledgeable man. Really enjoyed this tour. I'll need to find part 1.
Love this!!
Those pinkish distylium’s are nice. I wouldnt mind having a few.
❤️❤️❤️
what an inspiring collection of trees!!!
Such beautiful plants and trees!! Thank you!
OH MY Goodness I want that pink distylium!!!!
Me too!!
Same here! 🥰
Wish I could give a thumbs up more than once!
Thank you for the education! I greatly appreciate your channel.
Thank you so much!! 😊
Love baptisia too! I think it’s underutilized in contemporary gardens.
So interesting.
Please don’t be done with the pink distylium! 😅. That is gorgeous!! These tours have been so informative and a definite treat!
Thoroughly enjoyed this video!
Thanks you! Great video!!!!
Great video...just love him...
I want that pink distylum and that Japanese maple bush.
Yeah, I was sad he didn't know what that maple bush was. Would have added it my list of things to find.
Awesome videos! What types of tags does he used on the tree that tell him the tree name and date planted (22:17)?
😍😍tenkyu
Lucky Katie!
I really do not understand why more people do not consider Styrax japonicus, particularly when creating an allee given its naturally formal habit. No room for that here, but we did sneak in one Stryrax japonicus Evening Light, which has a lovely purple cast…
I just want to sit and talk to him lol
Same!
I have at least one of his books. But don't remember seeing him. He looks exactly like an actor though and I can't think of who.
I just visited Dr Dirr yesterday and love the viburnum nudum little cherub. I looked on line and cannot find the plant ! I want this plant. Can you tell me where I can find it.?
Well, this made me jealous. You hung with Michael Dirr? I’m so envious right now.
Did you ever find out what the name of that dwarf Japanese maple was?
They’re too close…the hell with it. Best line ever on HT

🙋
Why would someone not want to hear him say he fertilizes?
I don't know why he said that. Obviously someone somewhere said something to him.
