    Biggest surf in decades in California.
    Sorry for the little shaking. some of it is handheld and I haven't made to much editing to take those out. should be some smooth ones too though :)

    Me and my brother gave it a go and paddled way out there that afternoon. It looked sort of sketchy but turned out to be pretty mellow getting mowed down with the wave breaking in such deep water and not top to bottom. Those horizon sets had us crapping our pants at first haha.

    Not far away, the San Pedro Buoy registered it's largest wave in history at 35 feet on this day.

    Thank you for making this I was traveling I would have paddled out .Its a rare day for Seal Beach I remember 10 footers this was a good day .

    Dude at 31:55 riding that wave like a boss and catches air with 180-degree turn at the end. Awesome... Great camara work too!

      I think that convergence on the end of that ride is the backwash from the beach. Crazy wave.

      You know the wave is mushy when a boogie boarder keeps going back into the wave, the end was epic though and that back wave was a game changer.

      @@Whereisharald Yeap it looked exactly like the wedge. I boogie boarded Seal Beach on Jan 1 either 1979 or 80 I cannot remember the waves were huge Southside near shore break two cuts and you had to bail, I went over the falls twice, I think the waves were a true 8 to10 feet or more easy.

    In the old days of the 70's and 80's the wave to ride broke in 12 feet of water @ 13 th. Out past the end of pier. 3x over head. One year even took out the oil platform @ end of jetty.

    I was visiting from Australia way back (I think 1980) after massive storms and floods had washed a whole lot of junk down to the coast. Had a surf at Seal Beach, which was cranking, offshore and crowded (the locals were friendly, though). What I remember about that day was the dirty brown water that had been washed into the surf via the storm water drains of LA. At one point, I paddled past a huge dead bird floating in the water. Surf was pretty good though . . . and I'm told it doesn't break that much anymore.

    The outside waves are big, but they’re peeling off not tubing…great time to get a log and leash it…ride the big swell!

    That's basically as good as it gets. I know I've surfed it, and about the same in 82/83 big year. I was tearing it up on a Christmas Hawk tri fin. biatches!

    The outer waves of the jetty are so spooky dude...I can just imagine nonstop walls of whitewater suddenly cleaning up everyone. Seems like a spot that can go zero to deadly at any time.

    Very nice! What time of the day was this? I was there earlier in the afternoon and before sunset and videotaped from the berm... much more impressive had I been lower on the ground level. :

      I remember 1 day back in 1983 on a sunny December weekday Mike Faley, me & John Kissell ditched our HB High 2nd half of the day and went out at Seal Beach south side close to the south jetty and it was similar to this day here on UA-cam. John Kissell was tearing on easy double overhead+ on a 6"4 and I saw what all the talk was about.

    I swim in the ocean Gulf river ect but I want to try to surf! I swim in high waves regularly (been drug on the bottoms of the Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico, Pacific, and Indian Oceans!!)
    Those smaller calmer looking waves look like they would be worth trying to learn to surf on!

      Ya need to stay away from the farm then. Domesticated cows kill 5 times more people than sharks globally per year. Course I’m sure that statistic might change if more people started milking sharks.

    There are some seals out there I have not seen many seals in Seal Beach. There is aome military Base in the areaI know. When M y helper was late one morning and we had to drive past the place he said he had some isue with his truck I told everybody what it must be. He blew a seal while driving past. . I wS A SPECIAL FORCES OPERATIONS SOLDIER IN THE PAST WE WERE THE BEST NOT UNDER A CERTAAIN BRANCHWITH ALL THEIR RULES. wE WERE THE MOSTELITE GROUPTHEIR IS. nO REAL NUDGET TO FOLLOW EITHER. OU HAD TO HAVE TOP TALENT TO BE ONE OF US FOR SURE. wHEN YOU NEED TO TAKE OUT THE WORST OF ALL YOU NEED RHE BEST THINGS THERESRE. No Hummers the work in some situations but to wie and heavy and way to slow. We had to have trophy truck frame and suspension and a Fiberglass body on most of it but windos and windshield for AC and heat a luxury prerunner that is fast as they can be. A Very fast high dollar street car when you need it. Ferrari , Lambo or Corvete might work with very very hot chicks for cover of course when getting cclose to cartel leaderw. The most advanced firepower of course and mRKSMANSHIP SKILS FOR ALL DIFFERENT RANGES OF DISTANCES. aBLE TO GET INTO BEACHES UNDER WATER OR SURF IN ONTO THEM IN BIG SWELLS LONG RIDES WITH TRIPPLE OVERHEAD BARRELS OF COURSEtHE nqvy seals are good of course but when to have to take out the worst there is do you send a cute seal you see in the movies or on TV ? No you need the best there is You send a SEA LION TO DO THE JOB PROBLEM SOLVED AND STAYUNG SOLVED!
