    I find the POI by DJI a bit pointless as you can't draw a box around the object but do love using Waypoints for my demos

      One important thing to remember about waypoints, it doesn't just fly from point to point - it plots a smooth path through the points that can go surprisingly off track. This causes a risk in that while your flight path when setting up waypoints is obstacle free - the ACTUAL path may not be. It's one reason DJI waited for 360 collision avoidance before adding it to the Mini 4 Pro.
      Always review the track it creates on the map before flying.
      Also, POIs aren't set by 'lassoing' the item. You have to fly OVER the POI and then add it like a 'special' waypoint and then assign it to which waypoints you want looking at it. The reason it's done differently is because unlike autotrack the idea here is to rely entirely on GPS/ground visual to navigate rather than trying to use smart image processing. This seems weird, but there are lots of cases where autotrack just won't work and there's no way to preplan using autotrack without actually flying the drone. You can also have multiple POIs and assign them to different waypoints.
      Hope this helps.

      And then when you do most of what you've said using Litchi, You can have a look at the flight paths and see the difference between apps doing about the same. The key take aways for me is flying Though the way points or flying Toward the way points. The Radius of the course can be vastly different. This is but one thing and I've seen good and bad from all apps.@@TheoWerewolf

      @@TheoWerewolf there is definitely some variance when running missions. If it ever gets scary, I'm ready to single tap the RTH button to stop it if need be.

    The POI is like the waypoints with one difference and that is you have to be over the the location of the point of interest to mark the gps position and then you can edit the height of the POI and then assign a waypoint to that POI. When done this way the mission will work as intended.

      yeah i did some testing today and found this out. it's a shame there arent any proper dji tutorials for this online. lots of youtube videos like this but nothing going into the detail.

    One of my favorite things about waypoints is that once they are saved, you can actually load and execute them while the drone is still grounded.
    You can just press "continue" on screen while grounded and the M4P will take off and proceed to the misison completely by itself. Just be sure the path from your launch point to the mission point is clear, detecting an obstacle shuts down the mission and it will just hover.

    What I have learned about waypoints so far is that there is certainly a variety of approaches if one chooses to "mess about" with the little snake randomly.

    I think the reason the drone did not accurately return to home is because to get precision landings, you should ascend to about 7m before doing anything else. So go straight up, to give the drone a chance to see its surroundings

    the one thing I found is way points without the obstacle avoidance on will crash if you are within a foot or to of an object as it tends to veer off course, I thought I'd try to have fly 2 feet off the ground and under a ladder and it crashed. Good things I was just creeping a long and the propellers just stopped. I checked it many time doing this but as long as I'm creeping along a low to the ground it will not break. We need to know how accurate it is and it's off by a lot. it tends to veer off and there wasn't even a breeze.

    I've been playing with Litchi on a mini 2, also Litchi Pilot on a Mini 3. Now I've played with my mini 4 through the Fly app. Litchi may seem jerky because of the set up of points and the radius of the corners to flow around them. The Fly app does a good enough job with the Radius Out of the box. They may be larger and naturally may seem smoother because of it.
    While weaving around the tree tops in my neighborhood I've had some close calls because of the flight path going out along those radius corners.
    Interesting to say the least.

    A newbie.... What does the POI add to the waypoint flight?

    • @shaunthedrone
      @shaunthedrone  7 місяців тому +1

      Good question Stefan and one I wonder why DJI added this feature as it only faces an object you fix the POI on which Litchi / Maven app you draw a box around the object you want the drone to follow. Many thanks for watching.

    • @TheoWerewolf
      @TheoWerewolf 7 місяців тому +2

      A POI is a location, basically a special kind of waypoint that uses the GPS location set. You can set waypoints to have the camera track the POI as the flight progresses. You set a POI by flying over it and creating a POI mark. You can have multiple POI marks in a flight and assign specific ones to specific waypoints (or all of them). The main advantage is that POIs are fixed locations and so can be set up even if the drone isn't in flight.
