In high school I was subbing in on bass for a cover band playing alternative/grunge during our after school talent show. During the second song, "Lithium" by Nirvana, one of the guitarists calmly puts his guitar down and stage dives. No one catches him, and he slams into the gym floor head first so hard that I hear the impact over the guitars and drums. He lays there for about thirty seconds, staggers to his feet, and wanders out of the school. A couple of weeks later he told me he was found by a cop sleeping in a ditch about a quarter of a mile from the school, his bicycle next to him. The cop called an ambulance, and the poor kid was diagnosed with a grade three concussion. Cobain had died earlier that month, and the concussed kid had done the dive after becoming emotional when performing the song.
I had a band in college, and at some point we were playing live on an event.
