  • I haven't been to Summerlee since just before their major refurbishment, and I was shocked to realise that it was 10 years ago , As I was in Glasgow I decided to rectify this and pay another visit.
The museum of Scottish Industrial Life is built around the site of the nineteenth century steelworks in Coatbridge. It is also the home of The Summerlee Transport Group who operate the Heritage Tram fleet within the museum grounds.
This video concentrates mainly on the trams operating on the day of my visit, and briefly on some of the exhibits in and around the museum itself.
Trams in service were Lanarkshire Tramways Company No. 53, Düsseldorf 392 and last but not least Glasgow Corporation Tramways 1017.
My sincere thanks to everyone from The Summerlee Transport Group, especially George, Alexander and Innes for everything they did, It was very much appreciated.
I am already looking forward to my next visit.
A small selection of Photos from The Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life can be found at . www.mollsmyre.c...

I know about Criech, Beamish and other museums with tram collections; this is now to me. My Scots ancestors would be glad to see it! TM, San Francisco, CA, USA

I was shocked to realise the last time I was at Summerlee was 10 years ago so I had to pay another visit. It is a brilliant place celebrating Scotland's Industrial past, very much like Beamish only in a smaller scale. Ah The Hillman Imp.What a car.

I believe the old steam crane came from Dalzell Steel Works late 70s or early 80s. We used to move it all over the works by coupling a locomotive to it. It was used for derailments and heavy lifting.
Great to see this👍, I'll have to take the Grandchildren for a visit.

Apologies I have only just found your message. Certainly would have been something to see the Steam Crane and Loco in operation. Hope you managed to pay a visit with the Grandkids. Wonderful place.

Cracking video Tommy, that's another 'hidden gem' that I hadn't heard of before, I reaaly must do a Scottish Tour one of these days. They have some really nice items of our once great industrial heritage on display, what a pity museums seem to be the only place where they can be found these days.

Don't think I've heard of that place before. All looks very interesting, a bit like Beamish. Wouldn't it be nice to see that Garratt in steam? :D
Good to see they haven't forgotten one of the finest examples of Glaswegian engineering (12:49) :P
