- HELICOPTER TYPE 4 ROLLOUT
Between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Sunday 26 September our airworthy Type 4 helicopter, Yngve 70, will be brought up out of the underground hangar for its engines to be run. This special event will be celebrated by the Helicopter Squadron Pipes and Drums playing their bagpipes and drums, along with the Skepplanda Hemvärns- och kulturförening cultural institution who will be present with a troop of guards and a cooking facility. During the event Number 2 Helicopter Squadron will also receive a gift from the Friends of the Aeroseum Association.
Background: The Aeroseum’s underground hangar houses and has on display a unique and airworthy helicopter, namely Type 4 Helicopter Y 70. All this summer No. 2 Helicopter Squadron personnel have been performing maintenance on Y70 and her sister Y72. Y72 does not have a Certificate of Airworthiness, but is a vital source of spare parts for Y70. In 2018 Y 70was granted a national Certificate of Airworthiness, and last flew in 2019. It is maintained by No. 2 Helicopter Squadron personnel, consisting since 2013 of former officers and civilians who were previously part of that Squadron before it was disbanded. The present-day No. 2 Helicopter Squadron now forms part of the Aeroseum organisation. aeroseum.se/2-...
NOTE! The engines of Y70 will be run but it will not fly this year. Also please note that the event is dependent on both the weather and any technical problems that may arise.
Thanks are due to Gaurav Sharma editing and filming.
