Story of Civilization 11 Volume Set - 483 hours 38 minutes
The Lessons of History (most important insights from SoC) - 5 hours 35 minutes
Caesar and Christ - 36 hours 31 minutes
would you read the entire set, specific volumes, or would Lessons of History suffice?

The Lessons of History only assume their real value once you’ve completed the entire Story. In fact, both works enrich the other.

What stands out in this book is the historic substance and the sound historical material and significance of the documentation regarding the historical Christ and also extensively the early Christian community both in the 'Holy Land,' and in Greece and Rome; which were central to early Christianity, as in Saint James who was martyred there to end Pontius Pilate's career a little unfairly honestly but one unwilling paid unduly for the willing crimes of many, and such matters of knowledge which can be corroborated and correspond to other works like 'Searching for the Historical Christ,' and the Holy Bible; but is rather rare knowledge nevertheless. Of course there's a lot of information about the Roman empire, and I find this most interesting also, but it's more commonly available from other sources. The time frame is quite off; as Durant relies on other experts who relied on carbon dating which is as accurate as lie detector tests which are completely unsound and inadmissible in actual courts; in the case of carbon dating, the desire to pretend to have this knowledge caused 'experts' to fix the dates of humanity's technological history far more recently than reality and the actual evidence reflects; as more educated, careful experts are discovering and publishing today in the mainstream science press.

@@JB-uv4hm: I don't have to; clearly that is nothing similar between Julius Cesar and Jesus. Jesus's teachings center in the love for each other and the detachment of earthly riches and pleasures to cultivate the divine spirit within us in order to reach eternal life in the kingdom of heaven. Now whatever eternal life and kingdom are, is clearly subjected to interpretation according to one's beliefs. Did Cesar preach such philosophy to his followers? considering that Cesar's followers were very different types of followers than those of Jesus's, and had different motives to follow either or. In short, Cesar strived for material reaches and glories here on earth, since living without any of those was shameful and disgraceful, not to mention a life of misery. Totally contradicts the very essence of what Jesus represented and the reason for his very presence on Earth.

@@potita24 In all humility, I think you need to listen to the whole playlist.
Without Caesar, i.e. the Roman Empire, Christ would have likely been a forgotten rabbi for a minor Jewish sect. Jesus and the Roman Empire are linked, like it or not. And that's kinda Durant's point if you listen to this whole volume.

This is an academic work of history comparing and contrasting the biographies of the two men (Caesar and Christ), among many others from that time. It's not making a moral claim on Julius Caesar or trying to equate him to Christ. This is the third book in the series; i recommend checking out the first two on my channel before starting this one if you want a better picture.
