Bought the Zenith Revival a few months ago and never looked back. This is Reissue perfection in my opinion.
Omega is the best in my experience, I was given a gold Omega in 1956 when the family lived overseas and I was given one when I set off for high school in the states because the oil company my dad worked for didn’t offer classes any higher that the 8th grade. I still have that watch and wear it when entertaining or going out to events, it had only a couple been serviced a couple of time. God only know what that watch would cost me today. It’s a great watch and I still enjoy it and always get a lot of positive comments.
I'd love to share it with the community during our weekend "Wrist-Shot Week" Livestreams! The next show is happening on the 12th of September! If you'd like to send in some wristshots of it or just the watch in general to me, here's my email: enquire.idguy@gmail.com These pieces need to be celebrated ;) Thanks for the comment Rick
Hello from a fellow South African, now residing in Vancouver, Canada. Thank you for taking the time to put these pieces together; it must be an awful lot of work. I enjoy your channel immensely, and can listen to you talk about watches for hours. Maybe one day I'll be inspired to share my modest collection on "Wrist-Shot Week". Here's an idea for a segment...watches that have been handed down from family or loved ones and the brief story that goes with them. I have an old Rotary that my father handed down to me that he was gifted as a young man. I'd love to share it with the community one day. Best regards and keep well!
Love the concept AND could make this a theme for Wrist-Shot week in the future! It's so special having fellow expats watching the channel. I should throw in a few lines of Afrikaans during some of these clips just for the hell of it ;) But thank you Rene. It means so much knowing that you enjoy the work and the ideas behind these videos. The same to you and your family, I hope you're all okay and looking after yourselves with all that's been going on this year!
@@ID-Guy Thanks IDGuy! Looking forward to possibly seeing that new idea sometime soon. And yes, a little Afrikaans would be fun.😄
Excellent. I have seen thousands of reviews but this is the most professional I've ever seen. Top notch.
The best watch video I have ever watched on you tube. Seriously quintessential information and descriptions. Subscribed
The Zenith El Primero is a dream, I tried it on at an AD, wears much smaller than expected. But the beautiful angular case design and dial register legibility is superb. Don’t make the mistake I made of trying on the Chopard Alpine Eagle on the same day, otherwise you’ll totally forget that you were after a chronograph in the first place…
Superb video, very informative. I learned a lot. Thank you for taking the time to put this together
Thanks so much Tony. I was a bit sceptical thinking about just how many of these watches there are out there. And it's crazy to think about how many of these I've covered on the channel before. But seeing them in a big group is always special (and I did want it to feel like an encyclopaedia around this niche) - Ah, it's great! I'm so glad you enjoyed it, man
What an Epic video!
Some amazing chronographs featured here. I absolutely love the Zenith A384, the Blancpain Air Command and the AP Remastered 01. The Speedmasters looked like lineup ready for action. The Seikos were a very stylistic selection. The Bulova Surfboard with it’s great 70’s styling looked great and the Longines 1935 monopusher and the 1946 chrono are great too, as well as that Mont Blanc.
What a way to end. With the horns of a cow! The Vacheron Cornes de Vache. Such an awesome looking watch.
An absolutely class presentation here my friend. I’m going to watch it again! ✊
It was a beast to edit, brother. A good 3 - 4 days of audio that needed trimming but it's great seeing "Reissue Chronographs" and know that you're getting a mini encyclopaedia ;) Gotta say, my collection needs a speedmaster... and everyone needs a Cornes de Vache haha! It's inspired me to make a complete video around the subject of "beautification". Thank you as always, boet. I hope you managed to get some sleep in the end!
Well done. I appreciate you covering such a wide range of watchmakers and prices.
The Vacheron logo on the column wheel mechanism really caught my eye. Beautiful design and attention to detail.
This video was a beast, but so worth it. AND VC... the way they work the Maltese cross into their movements is just special... you'll find the same approach with the rotors of their automatic movements. They are so underrated and if I win the lottery, I'll be snapping them up ;) Thank you for the comment Blaine!
Fantastic video, just what the doc ordered after a crappy day at work!
The Longines Big-Eye really needs more attention. Like many Longines from the heritage-series they absolutely nailed all the details gor this re-issue. Great video (yes I rewatched it 😇)
Very good video! Vintage re-issues are my absolute favourite.
Thanks for making this. Those are a lot of great examples
Yet another outstanding video IDGuy. Well done as always. I have to say that at of all of those beautiful watches, the Breguet Type XX is my favorite.
Interesting to see how the "Type XX" can be found in so many areas (owing to how the Swiss / French adopted the aesthetic into to their pilot chrono's) Longines, Breitling, Breguet, Hanhart, Guinand... Must say, if given the chance, I'd take the AVI 765 ;) Thank you as always Blueshirt (and I can't wait to debut your microphone on the next live show)
Beautifully done. Brilliant mate
An excellent video, thank you! Chronographs are my favourite style of watches. While they are all gorgeous; for me, it is the Heuer Autavia. When my dad took me to Kyalami in the early 70s, timing was performed by Heuer. I was sold and it has always been my favourite racing chronograph.
Legendary. Amazing how those memories stick with you, right? My background was Killarney (no where close to Kyalami in its hayday) My old man used to fly up to watch all the Grand Prix's. Thank you for the comment, boet. Love reading these stories!
IDGuy : The best of times! I used to follow the Springbok Series in local car mags and Killarney was the scene of many momentous clashes between the Capri Piranhas of Bob Olthoff and Basil Green, not to mention those thundering Lolas and Chevrons. There is a Saffa that writes for a US car site called “Bring a Trailer” from time-to-time, and posts the most amazing pics from those days. Thanks for the great, most-informative watch channel!
Still have my Heuer Autavia which my Mother gave me in ‘67 when I was doing a lot of racing in Ohio.
Wow another great video 👌I liked most of these, if I could pick one it would be the Blancpain Air Command ! Thank you once again for a outstanding video !
It's hard to make one choice, right? I feel a need to a Speedmaster ;) But it was a blast putting this together and thank you for the comment Junior!
Brilliant video the longer the better, would love to see you doing a video on reissue dress watches, stuff like Joseph Bulova collection, Rado 1965, some retro and Art Deco reissues etc
It was a monster to edit (took about three days just to get the audio finished haha!) But this topic did deserve more attention and as many pieces as possible. The next Reissue video has to look at dress watches, it's just inevitable ;) Thank you for the comment, brother!
IDGuy it was well worth the work it was a great video, can’t wait for the dress watch episode, I’ve been looking for one for a while but there is so much choice so it’ll be good to hear your opinions on them
Great video, you warned us you had a lot to get through but it was well worth it. I was lucky enough to have one you reviewed the Breitling ref 806 1959. But you really caught my eye with that Blancpain Air Command. Good Job. For what it's worth I prefer you in this format to the long form live streams.
Thank you Robert. It was a beast to prepare... a good three days of audio editing at least. And well done for grabbing an 806 (ironically, I'd love to feature it on a Wrist-shot week show hahaha!) Those Air Command pieces are very hard to find (and I think they're going for crazy money at the moment) - and the Live Shows, they are a completely different segment to the channel I feel. If not anything else, it's a time when I can connect with the audience a bit more, get some ideas shared, get some inspiration for future videos. These videos will always be at the core though, never fear ;)
@@ID-Guy I'll try to get a screen shot to you. I tried to do one of one of my other awhile ago but mucked it up. I'll try again.
@@robertsullivan4773 My email needs to be easier to reach (think it might be time to do an adjustment to it in the future) Thank you Rob!
Thanks for the great journey. I think Longines does the "heritage" style chrono exceptionally well.
Excellent review, made better with a relaxed flow and a drink to chill with. Must have taken an enormous amount of prep and research, great job thanks. I'm on a wait list for a sub but its taking so long that I'm considering something else. So this is so helpful. Cheers
What an EXCELLENT video!! Thank you!! 😊⭐️
Very comprehensive - well done! I love chronograph, especially manual wind ones, and have several vintage ones.
Wow, so much to take in. Thanks for the great video.
The Hamilton Intramatic and the Longines Big eye are a tremendously good value and extremely attractive
I very much enjoy this journey. I have to confess to being most dazzled by the final offers by the big three.
How can we not be ;) The Cornes de Vache is incredible... actually has inspired me to make a video about "beautification" and where more thought about "style" should make a comeback. Thank you for the comment Henry!
Brilliant video, would one day like to see one the most underrated brands 😊chronographs out there, the Alpina Startimer Panda dial with 70s inspired cushion case in PVD starburst finish. It is an absolute beauty of a watch, the functional and stunning form factor might be too big for some wrists but it is a wonderful looking piece at an astonishing low price for a lot of watch.
Very nice review, great entertainment. It gave me good insights on models I know and models I didn't know.
Tudor Black Bay Chrono! Know it is no reissue. But you get vintage feel anyway. Such a cool case and overall look.
No Rolex's or Tudors in this beastly video ;) Had to be done. - BUT thinking about Tudor's Heritage Chrono... damn, that should've been included.
@@gelmibson883 Thank you Gel. It was great being able to put all these pieces in one place
@@ID-Guy I agree about the Tudor Monte Carlo as well as the Heuer Carerra...Great vid nonetheless!
Just came across this amazing video...... One of the best vids about chronographs I have ever seen. ......LANG LEBE HANHART!!!!!!!!
What an excellent presentation! Thank you!
Time well spent.
Thanks a million George! That's the best possible comment I could ever receive on a mammoth 28-minuter like this! Thank you for taking the time to watch it.
What an excellent production - thanks, fantastic. Superb watches with some surprises. The odd liberty with 'reissue' (Pogue got me excited), but hey! I'm in the market for a chronograph and I don't necessarily want 'retro', but I find many modern pieces (eg Omega Speedy Racing - eh, 44?) way too big. My shortlist for some time has been the ZEP 38mm, Speedy '57 or Heuer (let's agree to drop the 'Tag') Carrera 160. But really what I want is something that invokes racing; that's waterproof, light (for bike racing) and frankly, CAF. And you drop the Monza. My oh my. More an homage than reissue, but bru, seriously. That is brilliant looking. Looking for deals now! On the classic front, some great Longines. Such an underrated brand. And Mont Blanc. I know we all sneer a bit ("not a proper watch brand"), but drop your prejudice (as you bravely do) - some great designs.
Amazing watches! I love the CHRO, A384, Avigation and Air Command the most
A384 and G381... there's too much variety to even start ;) They all really do deserve more attention on this platform. Thanks as always Tippy!
Excellent , a lot of taken to make a beautiful informative review 🇬🇧 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💥
An absolute pleasure Fayim and thank you for the comment! It was a monster to put together, but well worth it after seeing all of the pieces in one place ;)
I love the Blancpain Air Command Flyback
It's a stunning piece. Also really like that they've "modernised" the watch with ceramic etc. Thank you for the comment, brother
Great video - really enjoyed it.
A real pleasure, James. She was a monster to make but seeing all of the pieces in one video does feel quite special. Thank you for the comment, man!
Excellent video ID! Just imagine if Rolex reissued it's four digit Daytona... especially a Paul Newman exotic dial. Shot heard 'round the world 🌎
Imagine... it would make all the headlines on every platform. Quite funny how other brands have done it and they don't get the same attention. Ripe for the picking for us though ;) Thanks for the comment Doc
Great video!
Two questions about the Pogue:
Is it a reissue?
Wasn’t it, not the El Primero, the first automatic chronograph?
First presented then the hamiltom heuer one but seiko beat everyone to market to consumer.
As always, great video. I learned early on in my watch journey that I did not like the Rolex Daytona through owning an homage. Too difficult to read the dial. You would think as a former racer, I would have a number of chronographs either in the box or on the wish list. Not so. I only want two. The Caliber 11 Monaco, as the classic. But I am lusting after the TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 Heritage Watch ref. CAS2111.BA0730. Blued hands on silver/white dial on a SS bracelet with only 2 sub-dials arranged vertically, my preferred locations. I find 3 sub-dials too crowded. The Tag is 41 mm with virtually no bezel increasing the dial size for easy readability. It is also devoid of the tachymeter, something racers generally do not use or need. I It is also a heritage piece. In my eyes....a perfect chronograph. OK, the Omega Lawrence of Arabia is the only truly perfect vintage chronograph. A bit out of my price range....:)
I thoroughly enjoyed this review... I love chronographs, especially vintage Seikos. You didn't have time to go into the movements, but I believe the two Guigiaro Seiko reissues were the only two quartz watches in the video. While the 7T12 is a serviceable movement it pales in comparison to the 7aXX movements in the originals, many of which are happily ticking away nearly 40 years later. (Including two in my watch box.) Sadly there are no 6139 (arguably the first auto chrono ;-) reissues, and just as well as it would likely be a cost is no object limited edition with some crucial element bollocksed up.
BTW at 7:26 I think you meant 'emblematic', not enigmatic. :-)
Thank you for the correction Tom ;) Must say, the hour or so it took to record this did drain the oxygen from the room hahaha! AND the 6139... it was stupid of me to not include it... Seiko, as you can probably tell, is a brand that I need to study a lot more. Should've mentioned the Meca-Quartz though for bonus points hahaha!
@@ID-Guy No worries! I've gravitated to vintage Seikos. They tend to avoid the 'me too' crowd with the various designs they've used over the years, plus, they can be had at a fraction of the price of similar vintage Swiss and German pieces. Downside, they're often beaten with daily use and little service, but to Seiko's credit they can be bought back to life in the right hands. If you haven't already check out Spencer Klein's channel. He just posted his restoration of a beautiful '60s Bellmatic. Cheers!
Are these companies all coming out with brand new reissues of these watching you mentioned?? I’m talking most about the Seiko ones. I know Zenith has done a good job reissuing these great watches, but what about Seiko??
@26:21 my favourite Audemars Piguet! Notice how its gold case is subdued by the dial colour
OMG the omega 1913 my new unobtainable grail . if they brought that back which i guess they could at a good price would be knocking it out of the park
It's stunning! Sadly they only made 12 (or so, can't remember the number) - but they were so well made. I think Longines offers an affordable variant in this line - "Heritage 1918", but the Omega is on another level. Thank you for the comment Mark!
@@ID-Guy would be nice if they made a more affordable vsrient it just sung to meet instantly. Keep up the brill work
Very cool video. Thanks.
Great vid. Could have included the Bulova A-15 Pilot, a very simple yet ingenious way to incorporate a 12 hr pilot's chronograph. Best regards
Before watching: I will add another one: the vacheron corne de vache in stainless steel👌
After watching: You actualy chose it... And way more that's on my mind... ❤️
You forgot the bullova accutron or maybe it was not there yet when you produced the video?
Seiko on a lower budget did some cool reissued as well, as the Willard for instance..
I do love these discussions with design as major P.O.V. i find it a bit ironic that Hans Wilsdorf was such an anglophile and yet the British themselves seem so much more partial to Omega.
Great video! Thank you...🙏
My pleasure Stuart! Thank you for putting some time aside to watch it. It's always a bit of a guessing game with these longer videos (I'm just glad someone enjoyed the length)
Longines avigation big eye. It's a 3000 dollar column wheel chronograph and it's gorgeous. It's the best chronograph movement you can get before you start looking at the Breitling b01 in a 5000 dollar Tudor or a 7-10k Breitling.
57 Speedmaster re-issue. Perfect.
Even though I have the Seamaster, I'd pick up a 57 Speedy given the chance. They're so quirky and charming. AND it's always special saying that you own the FIRST Speedmaster ;)
@@davidofglenbrook4487 Was it the added thickness of the crystal as well? I was a bit nervous thinking about the height of the seamaster, but wow, they nailed it. It's razor thin in profile.
@@davidofglenbrook4487 but the one shown in the video is not the co-axial... thats the 1957 trilogy reissue, which is a manual chrono and 2mm thinner than the co-axial
@@davidofglenbrook4487 Oh! The Speedy 57! Here I'm thinking you're talking about the 1957 Reissue from the video and got a bit confused (not remembering that the reissue uses the 1861 movement) Gotcha, gotcha. the 57's are great looking watches though. Think they've been nicknamed the "Clooney"
@@bentollanzini1992 Got it! I was also a bit confused for a moment, we were actually talking about the "Clooney" Speedmaster, not the reissue ;)
Check out the new Longines Heritage Classic Tuxedo Chronograph, it's incredibly faithful to the 1943 original, right down to the stepped bezel and no-date. I'm looking forward to checking it out in the metal in the next few weeks and possibly adding one to my collection. I'm just smitten with it.
INCREDIBLE! Thank you for pointing this watch out to me Chris! What a beauty! This should've been included in the video...
How could you have not mentioned the: "oris chronoris grand prix 1970 limited edition", celebrating Oris centenary anniversary, until today a private owned watch making company. What a great piece and not just because I own one :-)...peace.
I love the Tissot.
We love them all
Zenith wow wow wow
Seiko hasn’t reissued the Pogue have they?
This might've been more of an assumption on my part. Saw some really great condition pieces online and might've botched it. Whoops (crazy how they are still to be found in such great condition and price)
Gutted, I'd buy a reissue for certain (as I'm sure many others would too)... Please Seiko 🙏🏻
The Navitimer 806 has future classic written all over it
I agree Juan. I feel the same about watches like the 57 Speedmaster Reissue. One day people are going to want them... They're so out-there and different. Thank you for the comment, man!
@7:11 I never noticed how the Zenith A384/A3818 case design looks like a *ROBOT* . In that regard, its styling seems derived from Japanese anime
the re issue of monza feels more like a heuer montreal with ref of 110.501
The date window absolutely ruins the Tissot.
the kind of vid that makes you think that you didnt waste your time. thx. have fun.
They picked, many times out of the same catalog. Money was tight back then.
Zenith
Best auto chrono movement 36,000 vph
No questions there. It is the King of the Automatic Chrono ;) Those A384's, man...
I don't understand 60 minute diving bezels on chronographs. Much rather have 12hr bezel for a poor man's GMT.
Diving Chrono's are a very different category. BUT they are quite exciting. You let the chrono continually run to time your dive, and use the bezel (for its intended purpose) for timing your decompression stops as you rise to the surface. So you get the best of both worlds out of it ;)
??? Holy trinity and no A.Lange u.Söhne ???
