Why? We have Lichess, so much better. Chesscom hides pretty much everything behind a paywall and is laggy. No reason to use it, waste of money.

I think Hikaru is on to something with slow bullet. Game 3 starts time around 4:03 and ends around 6:20. Interesting that he can sense that in all these intense games!
That's because lichess compensates for lag so a premove (which does take time in real time) takes no time on the player's clock. Those time differences add up and you get 17 extra seconds

I just timed one of the games, and there is some weird time control stuff going on. Once my phone reached 2 minutes, the game was still going with 8 seconds left for Hikaru and 4 for Penguin. Lichess probably wants to make sure to discard lag and give each player a full 1 minute of thinking time, which would explain why time feels so slow...

I think lichess refunds half your ping time on each move or something like that. It's so people on slow internet get a fair game.

The second game goes from 1:50 to 3:57 and there are 8 seconds left on the clocks, so 2 minutes 15 seconds, to play a 2 minute game. That's why it feels slow.
I timed the game that ended at 3:57 and there was 8.5 seconds total left but my timer was already at 2:04 passed, I think there is a small delay between timers starting and stopping when u move making each player have like 5-8 secs more than normal
also at 6:20 i paused that game when there was a combined 9.9 seconds left then started my timer and the play button same time and the game ended with 15 seconds on the timer, very big delay with moves

checkmate is possible because there are other pieces on the board. king and Bishop vs King only would have been a draw
