Great video, it was very helpful, I just installed my Acerbis 5.8 about a month ago. I used a ratchet strap to bring the tank down into position and it worked pretty well solo. Took about 2 hours overall from dissemble of the bike to installing everything and putting it all back together.
All the blinkers hitting the tank you could also fabricate a spacer approximately an 8th to a quarter of an inch to move the blinkers forward and they will also clear the tank
*************Instead of making a bracket I found a quick fix is to just move the blinkers up one hole position (blinkers will be mounted with one bolt) You will need to add some washers to the bottom bolt so the tank doesn't hit the bottom bolt that will now protrude. This allows the tank to clear the blinkers and it seems to work just fine for me.
Thanks for the video. I'm glad the you like the bike and my videos are helping you and others. Drop me a line if you have any questions and thanks for subscribing. Ride safe
I don't have a temp gauge on my dip stick so I am not sure. I do know that the bigger tank is shaped differently then the 4.2, if you notice it has built in air channels so to speak.
@mogearz: Yes, the petcock has a off, on, and res. Basically the "on" positon is set higher in the fuel tank than the reserve. So when the bike runs out of gas, you switch to res. and it takes fuel from a lower point in that tank. Hope that answers your question. Thanks for watching!!
What is the fuel range now.. that is the reason.... But great message and thank you for your work.. Robert Jr NJ here and the pine barrens XR 650 owner and truther.
None, I have had the tank off a couple times and found no evidence of any damage including chaffing. I called Acerbis and they said they have never had anyone bring that up.
Still don't have one, I really should, I haven't been riding much. I am getting bored with my bike and have been looking at some other ones. If you send me that stuff I will install it, give it a good test and do an honest review for you.
Addressing getting your signal lights to not hit your brand new factory screwed up never should have cleared QC before being recycled and having mounting recesses added to the saddle of the tank so you don't have to phone a friend to slide it over the backbone 5.8 gallon acerbis gas tank for your xrl. First off, scrap those old junk lights and get a pair of little pod style led lights instead. I think I paid just under 12 dollars for my whole set of 4 and they work so much better!! Smaller, brighter, obviously they look 100 times better, and the best part is, if all you do is swap all the old junk lights on an xr650l for new led lights your charging system will thank the shit out of you. Bike barely charges at 12.5 volts before, but it'll jump up to 13.9 bouncing off of 14 volts after. I know the 2 xrl's I've had did anyway. I replaced the headlight with led lights to and now it runs all my crap with no problem, it'll even fire over my air horn I have mounted under the front fender. (Yeah, you read that right, I have an air horn mounted under the front fender lol). Heated grips, heated seat pad, 3 different types of chargers for different things, 12 inch light bar that I have wired into my bright light switch so it only comes on when I hit the high beams, thats what all I can run at once now that I don't have them energy sapping factory lights on the bike anymore and with all that running at the same time it still charges at 13.2 volts at idle. Just for the sake of clarity tho, don't expect to just swap them out and its over because you'll still have to get a blinker module to go between the dash and the lights cause at first when you hook them up it'll blink like hazards and flash all 4 instead of just the left or right side when you hit your signal switch. Personally, I don't use one, I kinda like the hazard light action instead of left or right side flashing but thats just me. On my xr650l, lights have been the single best mod I've done mechanically and looks wise. 2nd would be a drop link for the rear. I lowered mine about 3 almost 4 inches in the rear and dropped my front an inch at the triple clamps and OMG!!! Awesome sauce!!! It was a really nice bike already, but that drop link made it a dream to ride and way more comfortable on your ass cause it gets the seat flatter and doesn't make you sit on an incline or like your ass is trying to scoot down a hill the whole ride. I've done quite a bit to my xr650l, but if I had to do it all over again, I'd focus on suspension first just because that link is a little costly, then I'd start on electrical and get that squared away before I spent a dime on anything else considering that 99 out of 100 ppl that ride ain't going to use 5.8 gallons of gas in a one day ever, this tank is really more for looks than it is anything else cause the average rider doesn't ride more than a few miles before stopping again. Hell, I ride every day just about and running 30 or so miles away is still torture on my ass lol.
Hey I did some thing stupid I have a 2000 Xr650l. I got a Clarke tank . I put it on every thing is fine but. There is nothing holding it but the back bolt in the middle of the frame. U think it would be bad if I drove like that with out anything holding it in the front as u just shown?
@danthman114: Yes you would. The old tank I could pull in a few min. but this guy took 2 people tp put on. They say it isn't bad once it has been on awhile and streached but I haven't touched it since I installed it. Also you would need a couple more tools to do it in the field. Fixing a bike in the field is a bitch anyway so don't let that hold you back from longer range.

Thank you, yes, I just bought a xr650l year 2000. I'm thinking of upgrading to a larger tank. Thanks for the tutorial.

Thanks! Answered a lot of questions that I had after reading the poor instructions.
Thanks for the video, I’m putting my tank on tomorrow.

Thank you Satan!!
It looks hard to get to the Oil Dip Stick 🤷
Good vidieos. I personally would use hose clamps on fuel lines.
...very helpful tutorial, thanks so much!
Informative kool. I have the A-LOOP tank kit, makes bike look nice. Decided to finally install fuel filter as is best to. Have vids of it on channel
Thanks for the video. I'm glad the you like the bike and my videos are helping you and others. Drop me a line if you have any questions and thanks for subscribing. Ride safe
Thanks for the help 👍
@marlinmero. There is a cross bar that mounts close to the motor, is that what you are talking about?

no, it just lowers where the fuel enters the tube inside the tank. just gives you a heads up your almost out
What is the part that connects to the motor for?
marlinmero
If you are talking about the part you add to the motor mount, I agree, it doesn't have a purpose.

I sold the bike last year, I really don't remember what range I was getting sorry. I am glad you enjoyed the video, I was very happy to help everyone.

Did this tank work out and not melt??
Yes it's been working great. No melting at all!!!
Did it ever hurt the regulator? If that’s what it’s called.. can’t be good it was touching..
No not at all. never melted anything. never overheated it, everything worked out good
great video! have you experienced any problems with the regulator heating up the plastic on the tank?
I'm wondering the same thing
ever figure that out?
Stick a hair dryer in the opening of the tank and effortlessly bring the tank into position.....
Baja XR250, Can setup?
I am not sure. you will have to contact the manufacture.
Still don't have one, I really should, I haven't been riding much. I am getting bored with my bike and have been looking at some other ones. If you send me that stuff I will install it, give it a good test and do an honest review for you.
not too bad, you should paint tank red like it was before. Too much white looks bad and shows dirt easy.
You are my hero. :)

nope I called acerbic and the guy told me they don't even put them in the kits anymore.
