In spite of all the obnoxious comments, I really enjoyed this video. I am 55 years old and have been gardening since a child and I just loved this idea. This would be a cool thing to do to teach children and to get them interested in gardening.

I plant the individual cloves of a hard neck variety 3 or 4 inches deep in good soil in a raised bed in mid October. Water thoroughly and cover with at least 3 inches of straw. The cloves grow some roots before the ground freezes, and wait comfortably until they sprout and start growing in Spring. No need to cut the clove ends either.

I know you usually plant garlic in mid autumn so they can establish themselves in the soil before winter and continue growing in spring but could this be a good alternative for planting indoors?

I think this is a great idea! I was very impressed. We have terrible soil where we live. The soul is very rocky to start and I don’t think there are enough of the right nutrients in the soil. I have tried garlic right in the ground and although it grew somewhat, it did not produce. I tried tomatoes in a 5 gal. Bucket with bags of potting soil. We never got any to eat. They would rotten on the plant or not grow to an edible size or something would eat parts of them. Any suggestions. One thing I did notice is what ever kind of soil you are using, looks like it is the perfect soil. Did you make the mixture yourself or is it a particular type that you buy? I would like to get some soil like yours. Thank you so much. I loved your video and have subscribed. Also, that would be something nice to do with a child. You could make it together and date the start. The child could keep a notebook to write down what changes occurred when you both checked it and they could also draw a little picture as it grows to show the progress.

When the garlic gets scapes they should be cut off. Then let the plants dry completely. The leaves will turn yellow. Dig it up when the ground is dry. The scapes are good chopped into salads.

Great way to grow when you want a bunch growing at the same time! Surely there’s a reason for preparing the cloves this way…I actually think that although it’s more labor intensive, it’s also very therapeutic and calming! I like the idea that you can see the actual progress from day to day! Would be a wonderful teaching method for children who are interested in learning how to garden. You did a great job 🥰❤️🌹

I think you’ve basically made a low tech fogger to start them off.
The garlic would do the same thing if you put them in the soil one you did in the end (unless it sped up the process)
But I do dig the ingenuity behind the bottles at the end.
I’m wondering how I could use it to start other plants and seed.
    Unless I use a propagator
