I got chills before he even started singing! This song has such a personal meaning to me. I got into so many things singing it, and it’s what’s kept me from committing suicide multiple times.

I can't speak for the crowd as I wasn't there and I don't really know the venue or extent of the event, but often when an event like this is going to be recorded, they ask the audience to refrain from unnecessary noise so as to not muddy the audio quality. Particularly in such a small, enclosed space where the effect is even more noticeable. Again, I have very little knowledge of this particular event, but I'm more willing to believe the crowd acted that way out of respect for the cast than boredom.
I love Laura and Ben with the entirety of my heart, but Mallory and Taylor are so cute and bouncy and my heart can’t take it

I was so blessed to see the original cast (minus Ben Platt) on Broadway! My younger daughter still hasn’t forgiven me for not taking her. I took her to the traveling cast in Denver but not quite the same.

I think she was teasing him about tapping his feet or something like that. Don't know specifically, but it *REALLY* looks like she's joking about him "moving to the song" in some way or another. Then right after, they mime bouncing/swaying very deliberately, possibly emphasizing the point.

Malindagtsqueen the fact that the only reason connors mom actually likes him is because he killed himself, the fact that people pity evan when he puts Himself in every bad situation hes in, and he blames it on his anxiety and depression??? like??? i suffer from those things too but i would never COULD never EVER do anything like that to a family

@@Sam-qf5pq no doubt the mother is a mess , but through that song each family member is struggling to come to terms with his death. It is sad, but I'd like to believe she cared a little.. I have yet to see the show or any Broadway show so my knowledge is limited to facts and the Broadway cast recordings but I'd like to believe the mother is possibly supposed to be the contrast to Evan's mother as in perspective Evan is to Connor .

Kira Vega I wouldn’t have thought anybody could surpass Laura’s brilliant performance, but...I really think Mallory is my favorite Zoe. She is just gob-smackingly talented and so perfect for this role.
I love how they bring the understudies / alternates to so many of these appearances.
Yeah I do to, it’s probably to give the song more power cause I don’t think they sing the ensemble in the actual show it’s just the characters.

Thank You Recommendations. This is one of my favorite DEH songs too. Taylor sings so good! It has been almost two years since i saw the tour in Costa Mesa. And the message could not be timlier!
Taylor holds the N's and the M's too much. I love his portrayal of Evan but his voice just doesnt fit it.

@@alif8736 The sheet music doesnt tell you how to hold your vowels. The sheet music tells you the notes and the rhythm they're sung.
The sheet music also doesnt include about 99% of the runs all of the Evan's use, but they do them anyways which is just fine as well. I just dont like Taylor's vocal style.
@@legoindiecomments1344 I like Taylor's interpretation. It's different. He's less neurotic, more vulnerable and unsure of himself. Ben was great, but different. I love hearing their interpretations. Both are extremely talented performers.

Sorry. This Broadway cast performance has a certain glassiness or brittleness to it that other performances on UA-cam don't exhibit. Maybe it is the arrogance of being the Broadway cast--the luxury of singing a serious song and laughing among yourselves while you waiting to delivery your lines? Not sure but while the music remains glorious somehow the actual emotional output of the singers isn't what you would expect or hope for. Compare this performance to what the Welsh boys can do, and there is no comparison. I love Broadway and that's why I say this: this is subpar and fits no one's expectations of what a New York Broadway cast can do. You guys can do better so please start doing it otherwise we'll be London soon.

I know this singer is great. However, this is really auto-tuned. You can hear it jumping between notes at 2:15 during "will". There's more spots, but that's the most obvious one. Totally unnecessary.

I think he just sings like that actually... It's possible, if you're talented enough. And if a person with a natural talent for singing uses auto-tuned music to learn how to sing, this is what would happen.
I only came to DEH recently (I moved out West to be with family and lost the vibrant traveling shows I had seen back East). Once I found it. . .i added ‘DEH Road Show’ to my bucket list. . .unfortunately. . .7 years away from live theater was like a lifetime. . .tkts for the SLC roadshow are $200-$520. . .way out of my range. . .so I rely on UA-cam. . .and performances like this. To me. . .the seemingly bored audience and what appears to be a lackadaisical response is absolutely offensive to me. . .I’m hoping that it was just a fault of camera and sound that mad3 the audience in the video look as though they were late to an appointment anywhere but there.
