I know how to do most of the basic stitches. But never learned how to read a pattern. This will help me out so much. Thanks!!! 🙏

Same for me, my mom taught me how to do stitches but not how to read a pattern. Usually i have to watch at least a few different videos on something but I think this one was all i need for right now!

Same here, I have always been able to free hand stitch. I never took the time out to learn about the pattern language and how to read them. It makes it easier to learn new designs now.

Same here. I usually rely on following the written instructions, but didn´t know how to follow the symbols. This was most instructive.

This is the best tutorial for beginners! “What it looks like” and the animated arrows feels like a private lesson. Providing written instructions on top of the chart (as well as reviewing the row you just completed) instills confidence. I added your video to my Pinterest crochet board.

Thank you for this clear instruction. I’ve been crocheting for a year now and enjoy doing all the different stitches. As long as I watch a video or have someone explain the pattern, I do ok. Now I want to become adept at reading & following patterns as this will allow me to make many more items. So happy I found you!

I’ve been crocheting on and off since high school but I always gave it up because something wasn’t working right.
Well, after watching your video I know I was taught incorrectly! This kind of information is invaluable for those of us who don’t have people in our lives to teach us and don’t learn well from books.

Thank you for this video. A neighbor asked me for help working from a pattern today so I came looking for videos that might help her. One suggestion I have for you is to make the slip stitch symbol a filled in circle (I believe this is commonly used) instead of an oval that is faintly filled in so it doesn't look so much like a chain stitch. Thanks again. Long live UA-cam!!

Hi! I know I'm late to the crochet party, but I wanted to thank you for this tutorial. The diagrams/graphs were really useful. For me, seeing the 2nd graph made more sense of the first one. I couldn't 'see' the gaps in the first one so I couldn't understand how you knew to skip a stitch. Seeing them side-by-side would be extremely useful to recognise the empty box versus one with a stitch in. From my beginner's perspective anyway 😊🧶

So, thanks for teaching us how to understand a diagram pattern. And I gotta tell you that I am making a similar stitch that makes a very - like extremely hardcore - bumpy dish cloth. I increase the twist in my yarn so that it will be stiff for more scrubability, and to keep food particles out of it, so that when you wash it, it washes clean and you won't have to bleach it to disinfect . My 86 year old mother is impressed and that's sayin' a heckuva lot!

@@CrochetWithTiffany ...I even won a Blue Ribbon at the Arts & Crafts Exhibition at the State Fair with an unlearned, inspired, unique center start to a rectangular granny square bedspread. A clerk I had befriended told me the Judges' main points of interest was my starting point was different than anything they had ever seen and the color coordination reminded them of Greek key design but it wasn't quite. Who knew!
