Same for me, my mom taught me how to do stitches but not how to read a pattern. Usually i have to watch at least a few different videos on something but I think this one was all i need for right now!
Same here, I have always been able to free hand stitch. I never took the time out to learn about the pattern language and how to read them. It makes it easier to learn new designs now.
This is the best tutorial for beginners! “What it looks like” and the animated arrows feels like a private lesson. Providing written instructions on top of the chart (as well as reviewing the row you just completed) instills confidence. I added your video to my Pinterest crochet board.
Thank you for this clear instruction. I’ve been crocheting for a year now and enjoy doing all the different stitches. As long as I watch a video or have someone explain the pattern, I do ok. Now I want to become adept at reading & following patterns as this will allow me to make many more items. So happy I found you!
EXCELLENT VIDEO!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you for a clear & concise tutorial. I can’t imagine why anyone would give this a “thumbs down”.... please don’t ever stop.... you’re an amazing teacher!!!
How exciting! I'm so happy you decided to give crochet a try. Great job going over some of the basics videos. That will be a huge help for you moving forward. 😊❤️🧶
Great guide! I had no idea how to read crochet patterns before watching. Now I know I prefer the picture, but I can understand the written as well. Very clear instructions
This is the first time I have seen a video on reading or understand a crochet symbol let alone being able to read a pattern thank you so much this has been very informative thank you once again❤️
I new how to read patterns VERY well. I could make anything if you gave me the written pattern. Sadly I stopped crocheting for a while. I’m now coming back to it and need a refresher. Thank you!❤
This was incredibly useful! I’ve been crocheting on and off since high school but I always gave it up because something wasn’t working right. Well, after watching your video I know I was taught incorrectly! This kind of information is invaluable for those of us who don’t have people in our lives to teach us and don’t learn well from books. I can’t thank you enough. ❤
Just started and was mystified by the written instructions Thank you so much for clarifying with written and symbol instructions. I will definitely rewatch until I get this tutorial to memory.
Thankyou for this !!! I was starting to feel so frustrated,as a beginner. This is one of the best videos I've come across in my first month of beginning. Thankyou.x
Hi Angie! I am so happy that my video was able to help you out. It can be easy as a brand new crocheter to just dive right into a project. Knowing the basics will help clarify so much and help you to grow and make projects that there may not be any tutorials for yet. 😊🧡🧶
Thank you! Excellent! I'm embarrassed to tell you how long I have been crocheting and how many times I have attempted to read a pattern and couldn't. This was really helpful.
Tiffany thank you so much for your clear verbal & visual instructions. I never could understand a diagram pattern. Now thanks to you I can. Much appreciated.
Wow thank you so much. I've recently been curious to try crotchet. Picked up my mum's books and was wondering how am I going to read these hieroglyphics 😁 glad to finally be able to understand. Trying to crotchet a pair of baby booties for my lil one who's on the way
OMG! This is SOOOO helpful and very well explained. I love the examples/sample pattern that you show. It helps a lot! Thank you! Thank you! You make a newbie like me pick it up easier. ❤
im a beginner. started crocheting a basic sc blanket. have wanted to do a granny square blanket but i needed the understanding of abbreviations. thank you so much!
❤thanks. I just been freestyle crocheting. I wanted to learn to read a pattern and this definitely helped me and actually taught me stitches. They were easy to follow. Now I think I may be able to make something from a pattern.
I really appreciate this tutorial, especially the part about the asterisks. I feel confident I can tackle those previously overlooked patterns. They don't seem as difficult now, thanks to you👏👏👏
Thank you for this video. A neighbor asked me for help working from a pattern today so I came looking for videos that might help her. One suggestion I have for you is to make the slip stitch symbol a filled in circle (I believe this is commonly used) instead of an oval that is faintly filled in so it doesn't look so much like a chain stitch. Thanks again. Long live UA-cam!!
I am a beginner and just couldn't understand reading the crochet patterns or remembering each symbol. Many thanks for your video. I wish to follow you henceforth. Happy Crocheting.
Really useful and well explained video, thanks so much! Been learning crochet for a few weeks now but without a tutorial the patterns had me a bit intimidated, feeling way more confident now :)
Ive been crocheting for years but have been struggling my way thru it, kind of making it up as i go along and everythings been wonky. This is life-changing! Thank you!!
Hi Cassandra! I can't tell you how happy I am that you have watched a crocheter learning video and that you are trying to get better in your craft. By watching these types of videos and building your knowledge and experience with crochet you will have such a great time with your projects. I'm so glad my video on reading basic crochet patterns helped you. Keep up the great work! 😊❤️🧶
Thank you so much for this video,it's really very helpful for beginners...you explained everything in very simple methods...and how to read patterns is really very helpful
Perfection!!! So clear to understand!! I feel the diagram is so much easier than written form now. Love it!! Thanks for teaching me! Love your videos! 💛
Hi! I know I'm late to the crochet party, but I wanted to thank you for this tutorial. The diagrams/graphs were really useful. For me, seeing the 2nd graph made more sense of the first one. I couldn't 'see' the gaps in the first one so I couldn't understand how you knew to skip a stitch. Seeing them side-by-side would be extremely useful to recognise the empty box versus one with a stitch in. From my beginner's perspective anyway 😊🧶
Having both the written AND symbol instructions did it for me! Wow I cant believe that FINALLY clicked for me! THANK YOU!! I can't wait to learn more 🧶
It sure did help! I know how to read the written instructions but now I know how to read a diagram with symbols. I’m going to use this video as a reference point. Thank you!
Thank you so much for sharing I never knew how to read a pattern my friend years ago showed me how to make a blanket and scarf. Thanks again your teaching us the correct way of crocheting.
So, thanks for teaching us how to understand a diagram pattern. And I gotta tell you that I am making a similar stitch that makes a very - like extremely hardcore - bumpy dish cloth. I increase the twist in my yarn so that it will be stiff for more scrubability, and to keep food particles out of it, so that when you wash it, it washes clean and you won't have to bleach it to disinfect . My 86 year old mother is impressed and that's sayin' a heckuva lot!
@@CrochetWithTiffany ...I even won a Blue Ribbon at the Arts & Crafts Exhibition at the State Fair with an unlearned, inspired, unique center start to a rectangular granny square bedspread. A clerk I had befriended told me the Judges' main points of interest was my starting point was different than anything they had ever seen and the color coordination reminded them of Greek key design but it wasn't quite. Who knew!
Thank you very much for this. I can crochet and make my own coats sad other clothing, but have never been able to read a pattern or follow a diagram. This tutorial was very easy to follow.
I love you for this!! I saw diagramms on Pinterest and I didn't understand ANYTHING and now it is a bit better 😅. Thank you a lot again this was very helpful!!!
1:23 Chain (Ch)
1:52 Slip Stitch (Sl St)
2:32 Single Crochet (Sc)
3:17 Half Double Crochet (Hdc)
4:16 Double Crochet (Dc)

I know how to do most of the basic stitches. But never learned how to read a pattern. This will help me out so much. Thanks!!! 🙏
Same for me, my mom taught me how to do stitches but not how to read a pattern. Usually i have to watch at least a few different videos on something but I think this one was all i need for right now!
Same here. I can crochet but I have to follow someone.
Same😊
Same here, I have always been able to free hand stitch. I never took the time out to learn about the pattern language and how to read them. It makes it easier to learn new designs now.
Same here. I usually rely on following the written instructions, but didn´t know how to follow the symbols. This was most instructive.
This is the best tutorial for beginners! “What it looks like” and the animated arrows feels like a private lesson. Providing written instructions on top of the chart (as well as reviewing the row you just completed) instills confidence. I added your video to my Pinterest crochet board.
Thank you. I am a total beginner to crochet, and have absolutely no idea how to read a pattern . You are a great teacher and an inspiration ❤love it.
Thank you so much!! 🥰❤️🧶
