A game I'd definitely put on the mini A500 would be midnight resistance, I loved playing it back in the day 😎👌
One of my absolute faves, and by far the best version for my money.
@@mikehanson5794 completely agree mate 👍
Wow. I've never seen anyone with anything nice to say about Batman Returns. This was actually the first published game I ever drew graphics for. I was in school and on work experience at Denton Design. The guys there let me have a crack at designing some of the weapons to replace their placeholders and it looks like one or two of them made it in. I wasn't credited for it, but that's ok. They took me on again and I got to have my name on later games. It was jus a privilege to watch them work and to gain insights. I remember really loving some of the graphics on that one, including Batman's rotoscoped anims. (There was a 14 frame walk that was gorgeous, but never made it in on account of how it would've slowed the action down. I remember being in wonder at how fluid the game design for something of this era was, and how they made such big gameplay decisions so deep into the process). I also remember how late and rushed this was, leading to some serious difficulty-balancing issues turning a potentially good game into one that was pretty universally slated. Shame, really.
Two games you must get are "Dreamweb" and "The New Zealand Story" I still have my original Amiga 500, 600, and 1200 as well as my Commodore 64 (Upgraded them all) so really happy when I saw you pick up your Amiga a while back, and now you got this it opens you up to far more games to choose from. I am happy to suggest more games but didn't want to just spam you with a huge list haha
I put a post out this week and asked for suggestions on what to add/play in an episode next week. I wished I’ve had seen this before I recorded gameplay this morning.
Feel free to suggest more though
I liked playing Pinball Dreams, Pinball Fantasies & Pinball Illusions, also remember Walker, Fire & Ice amongst others.
The Double Dragon sound is fantastic, exactly how I remember it from the Amiga 500
Good times
Road Rash for the win indeed. I'm having fun sifting through the GIANT library of games to add to my mini, I think for retro games, Amiga is hard to beat. So many different genres and unique games.
Beneath a steel sky.
Absolute gem.
The amiga and the 90s
Gaming heaven.
Agreed mate
Also Flashback .. that game really got my imagination wrapped around it it had a great atmosphere.
I had Beneath a Steel sky on the CD32 so the CD audio was set up to guide u and respond - I'd like to see some add on adventures for that game .. forever it was always a great concept
Shadow of the Beast destroyed me. Now I'm a scary Pants. There was just something dark about it. And it changed me for life. Seeing it now still give me the chills. And super frog was awesome. But i mostly just loaded disk 4 and watched the movie
When i owned an Amiga 500 / 600 and 1200 my favorite game was Agony . A 3D side scrolling shoot em up game . The main player is an OWL ... I hope that one will run on an amiga 500 mini. Also the music is nice :-)
Great vid - I had an A500 in 1989 to 1993, and then upgraded to an A1200 in 1993 which i still have. I bought each month every issue of Amiga Power, and always went by their reviews to decide which games I bought, and ones I would thoroughly recommend are Ruff N Tumble, Harlequin (a hidden platform gem), Apidya, Battle Squadron, RodLand, Fire & Ice, Simulcra, Zeewolf and there are many more!
This is the best a500 mini content on here! Thanks Gem! I'm well informed and even more hyped to get mine tomorrow!
Nathan, you’re a god! Thanks mate. Keyboard support is coming in an episode next week
@@TheGebs24 I'm glad now you told me to watch the video on Facebook now but been following the channel for a while!
Nice choice , ive added Dizzy games, Menace, Xenon 2, F29 Retaliator, Dungeon Quest, Buggy boy amongst others , all classics
another great video with great content absolutely love the Amiga scene and the addition of the A500 mini. looking forward to more amiga content 🙏👍👍

it's interesting that a game can be "good" because of the memories it conjures, not just whether it is any good or not. what about "leemings" that was a gob stopping game, you can still find jaws left on the floor in old game shop locations!
It’s weird right! Thanks for watching
The greatest console/computer football game ever is Sensible soccer. Hours of fun on that beauty of a game. Great informative overview of the Amiga mini 500. 👌👍
Hey Gem, your Amiga 500 mini review is the best one that I've seen.
Is it really? Wow thank you
I have my Amiga 600 which I use regularly and purchased 30 years ago this month. My 500 mini is great when I am on holiday or working away and staying in hotels. I would like workbench and I can get this for the mini.
Ever since I was a kid, I wanted an AMiga. The game mags I read always talked about how ________ 16bit game was a port of the Amiga version, so it became this magical kinda of machine to me back then. I'm looking forward to my A500 arriving, for sure. First game I'll be adding is Captain Dynamo.
Happy launch day. Enjoy
Great video!
Looking forward to getting mine Tomo! Will be adding Flood onto the USB stick, loved that game back in the day!
Hah! The cool 7 up game hehe :) Beneath a Steel Sky I never managed to end at the time, did get the remake though.
Another World was brilliant and a game I am still in love with is Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis! There are more obviously, the Amiga architecture was a fenomenal step forward back in the day!
Sensible golf was a solid memory for my Amiga - also Flashback, it performed brilliantly from what I can remember 👍
Nice Amiga games, Lotus games are always great to see. Besides the Lotus games and Out Run, I enjoyed playing for example Leaderboard Golf, Toobin' and APB. Slip Stream was also pretty fun 3D fighter jet game, shooting other aircrafts and avoiding skyscrapers. My Amiga also came with Logical game demo, simple but fun game.
I wonder what the Mini Amiga does, if some Amiga game crashes, does it show the infamous "Guru Meditation" error message :D
Thanks for pointing out these videos about Amiga500 yesterday as the Norwich Gaming event.
Hi Shane. No problem mate. There’s more Amiga content dropping this week too
@@TheGebs24 thanks, look forward to watching.
Thanks Gem, this is a great game video for Amiga 500 classics. Nostalgia overload! lol...
If you like Superfrog I would recommend you try out 'James Pond II Robocod, and BC Kid, which is an Amiga port of the Turbografx16 platformer called Bonk or PC Genjin
Enjoy!
Thanks Craig
Great stuff Gebs + you're a bit of alright too. I think there's an update planned which enables the A500 Mini to handle CD32 CD audio as well which will be great with games like Simon The Sorcerer, Beneath A Steel Sky etc -
Turrican 2, Gods, Eye of the Beholder , Defender of the Crown, Moonstone, North and South, Kings Quest, James Pond, Rick Dangerous 2.
I myself had a C64 but two of my school friends had A500s. What I remember and will put on is Wings of Fury, Return of the Jedi, North & South, Wings, Manor of Mortville, an old German moon base game whose name escaped me once again -.-, Silkworm, Fire Power, Bionic Commando (though I can't remember if I'm mixing it up with the console version) and some more I forgot plus those I never had the chance of experiencing - your Shadow of the Beast looks mesmerizing btw :D
thanks for your videos ! have you tried adding demoes ? alcatraz mega demo for instance ?
Excellent video as ever. I can't wait to get mine tomorrow. I've added similar to yourself but also added a load more. Buggy Boy, Baby Jo, James Pond, Chuckie Egg, Paperboy, SWOS, Dizzy collection, Monkey Island, Wild Streets, Sly Spy, Desert Strike. I've got far too many to list
I added Chuckie Egg, loads of memories playing in on the BBC micro at school back in the late 80’s, it doesn’t work on the A500 mini though 😞
@@TheNooch79 I've just been playing Chuckie Egg. It works on mine. If its the the number of players bit you can't get past then plug in a keyboard if you have one.
Nice selection of games !! 😍 but no Rick Dangerous 1 & 2, no Party!! :D
I’ll have to add it 🍻
Glad that extra games are being added.
Fantastic vid as always, really enjoyed it. Yes more Amiga content please!! Quick question, how did you add your owned games to the A500 Mini, did you extract/rip the game directly from the disk? I own Wizball & Batman The Movie on floppy and I would love to put them in the Mini ! Thank you very much :)
Wherever possible I’d recommend getting the AGA versions or the CD32 for certain titles, definitely add Turrican 2, Blood Money, Magic Pockets, Lemmings, Chaos Engine 2, Zool 2, James Pond 1,2 & 3, Street Racer, Jurassic Park, Killing Game Show, Skeleton Krew, IK+, Sensible World of Soccer and Apidya.
And Xenon 2: Megablast for CDTV/CD32 - for the highest quality audio. Although the A500 mini won't run this - as it doesn't run iso's or adf's - only prepackaged WHDLoad files.
I loved the Lotus challenge games, almost (at the time) the perfect racing games. Shame about the engine noises, always sounded like hoovers.
Absolutely great video, I am seriously considering purchasing one of these. I used to have an Amiga 600 and I do miss the games. The emulators out there are quite a challenge so I am looking for a one stop solutions. Games I'm looking forward to revisiting are Turrican 2/3, Syndicate and Man Utd Premier league champs (the only football game I was ever any good at!)
I have more A500 Mini content coming this week 😃😃😃
Very well done Gemma, I miss my Amigas!
Thank you Rich. Will you be buying one?
@@TheGebs24 Definately on my possibility list
This is so cool I might pick one up too
Another great vid. Brutal sports football, giana sister's and moonstone are good 1's to add :)
Rainbow Islands, Bubble Bobble and The New Zealand story, bought a set off of ebay for nostalgia reasons, but will be loading them on my mini once I get it.
Cant wait for mine. I'm firing up my real 1200 now in preparation! Love your work Gem!
I’ve got a 1200 with a WHD load setup, but I’m still getting the mini. Doesn’t make sense , but it doesn’t have to!
@@JustinCardiff same and I'm disappointed in the mini, just like I was with the C64 mini and Maxi and now this.....rather my pimped out A1200 or my A500 with gotek at least it mimics disk drive sound that brings more memories back
@@glennmk5167 there are definately a few things missing.
Sd card slot where the drive bay is.
Disk access sound.
Membrane keyboard.
But i do still love it.
I bit the bullet and ordered one. I'm on holiday in Whitby but my son took delivery of it. I'm gonna add more games when I get home. There are so many original games that were released on the Amiga. I have so many fond memories of them.
Nice Machine. Within the newest firmware update its also possible to use the well known ADF Image files ( used by the UAE Emulator since years )
Loved playing it came from the desert awesome game
wicked vid. something nobody's mentioned is can you save your games that are from the usb?
great video.... what size usb stick does it take...
Wow. A massive amount of nostalgia in this video. Some absolute bangers on here. Superfrog, shadow of the beast. Love it.
There were some others which came to mind from childhood memories.
McDonaldland
Lost vikings
Wibble world giddy.
Fire and ice.
Lethal weapon
Dungeon quest
Dizzy
Rainbow islands
James pond (robocod)
Pushover
Putty
Love that little Floppy disc shaped USB.
This will probably get more use than the other mini consoles.
Putty is a hidden gem 💎
@@TheGebs24 I love when the cat pops up and says “just missed em” 😜
Hi, nice video. Just a heads-up, but many of the games you feature are running at 150% speed. It's an issue with the A500 Mini at the moment - hopefully the next firmware update will fix it!
good footage. just subscribed. whats the clock thing in the background on shelf please
Thanks for subbing. I have more awesome Amiga content coming up.
Have a look in the description for the video about my Pixel Panels
So many of these titles on disk with my a500. The one I wish I had was operation lemmings. Was so much fun.
Time to buy the a500 mini.
You won’t look back 🙌
I’m absolutely loving mine! Just one gripe, is it possible to make the screen size bigger for the games I’ve downloaded at all, to match the ones preinstalled? Thanks!
Hopefully they’ll fix this in a firmware update
When the game is running from USB press, option, then menu, and then crop to to desired fit or press auto crop.
Great Video. I'm struggling to get half of the games I've added working an keep seeing various errors. Really disappointed I can't get SWOS working at all.
Great video... My A500 mini should arrive tomorrow. Regarding a modern Road Rash on PlayStation... look up 'Road Redemption' it varies between £15 to £5 on playstation store (Depending on any deals)... but UA-cam it first... classic mode has a very classic Road Rash feel. Enjoy 👍
I think my Amiga 500 is my favorite mini yet. I just love gaming on an old school mouse. I hope retro games make an msdos mini with jazz jackrabbit and jetpack.
Monkey Island is defnitely on the menu to be enjoyed after the exciting news that there will be a new game made by Ron Gilbert and Dave Grossman.
I pre-ordered can't wait till I receive it on June 2nd not to mention I was able to download everything concerning the Amiga 500 and CD32
Exciting times
I’ll add (if they work) Harlequin, Prince of Persia, Powermonger, Sim City 2000, Agony, Goal, Knights of the Sky, First Samurai, Geoff Crammonds Grand Prix, Off Road Racer, Syndicate, F-29 Retaliator.
I grew up on Amiga and Zool and stuff...the mini is bad ass!
From other reviews ive seen you may have to change settings in the user expert settings if the WHDLoad games go too quick or dont load, Retro Recipes said in the comments to turn off JIT (Just In Time) and change to one of the other Blitter modes
Correct ;)
Have you got the dizzy egg games or the james pond series. Great series, loving the shows
IK+, North and South and barbarian are definitely worth adding 👌
I’ve since done another episode of what I’ve added ;)
I updated to 1.11 version. Every game I attempted to play works flawlessly.😀
Hi gem. Matt here. I remember playing a game called walker. A shoot me up using the mouse. Also I don't know if you can remember moonstone when we were kids. That was awesome. Love the vids. Keep me coming. X
MATT!!! Hello my lovely! I’ll download it mate. Are you still getting yours? So happy you’re here X
Hi gem. Yes deffo getting mine. I'll let you know when it lands. I'll have more games when they come to mind...
Turrican 1 and 2. Great games and great music too. X
@@matthewgrainger8685 Awesome Matt. Yeah give me a shout when you get it X
Jimmy White's snooker works well, so does Lemmings (obviously), Flashback, DGeneration, Micro Machines, Leander.....I could go on, so many good games!
On Street Fighter, did you try and bring up the on-screen keyboard to select one player option? On a lot of Amiga games you needed the keyboard to start the game. I'm pretty sure Street Fighter was one of them if I remember correctly.
Mine comes tomorrow and I got my USB prepped... booked two days off work lol.. my mum got my son for weekend got my beer and steak... chill time lol
Hi Gebs :) With Street Fighter 2, have you tried to use the virtual keyboard and press "1" or "2"? As far I remember, on the original Amiga you had to press the keybord to start the game...
I can confirm that Pablo is correct about using the virtual keyboard. The game runs way to fast however - it wasn't bad enough that the moves were close to impossible to pull off but the speed puts a nail in the coffin for what is an already terrible port.
I would also add Buggy Boy, Batman from 1989, Sly Spy: Secret Agent.
If you can find them and if they aren't expensive the Elvira games could be worth a look. Me and my friend sunk many Saturdays into them and then they did Elvira the arcade game which is a platformer type shooter
This brings back memories, logee the Amiga 500 when i was a kid and still have it with all my games.
What is the max size of usb stick memory you can use?
I’ve heard people are using 64g USB drives
I don’t have the Amiga mini but I do have the games on a megapack for the PlayStation 3 jailbroken and run well. I did have however like yours some games just glitched or ran into frame rate problems. I’ll put some games below for your collection that you might like. Good video by the way.
Moonstone
Turn n Burn
Naughty Ones
Dizzy Collection (Skid Row)
Super Twintris
Turbo Dual (PD Games)
Super Obliteration
Fire & Ice
Harald Hardtand (Colgate)
Guldkorn Expressen
SWIV
Silkworm
Bubble Bobble
Rainbow Islands
Parasol Stars
D-Generation
Transplant
Rodland
Magic Pockets
Walker
Another World
Flashback
It’s hard to remember anymore but thought these might help.
Days of Thunder and Back to the Future 2 have been proper fun to play again 32 years later
I may have missed some. Not a single Turrican? Or Gian(n)a Sisters? Twintris? Tetris Pro? Bubble Bobble?
The Amiga 500 mini can currently only process 3 floppy disks at a time. To use more than 3 floppy disks (for games that have more than 3 floppy disks), you need to create a.m3u. For example, with Streetfighter 2 you create a "Streetfighter 2.m3u" file and enter all the necessary floppy disks into it.
maniac mansion for sure is one of my favorites
Thanks!
No worries
I thought you’d be downloading just a select few there Gemma?! But 68!!! 😂. That should keep you busy for a while. Lots of great classic games. Brings back a lot of Nostalgia. Beneath a Steel Sky, Robocop etc. Other suggestions for you to look into though. North & South, for a fun strategy game. Also some of the Cinemaware games are great too, for arcade action and getting lost in! 🤔🙂👍
Yes Remember the running man 🎮😊
I'm adding shadow fighter, elfmania and body blows galactic to mine and many more.
Yes Blaze! Let’s gooooo
Hello :-) Can You, please, give me a hint, where do You get additional games for A500Mini from?
Fingers crossed for an ATARI ST MINI
Walker was a great game for the amiga
Thanks for the video. Batman The Movie is the true classic Batman game for Amiga in my opinion. But alot comes down to what you played back in the olden days. Also Double Dragon II or even Double Dragon III are much better games VS the first.
I still prepare my original Amiga 500 I’ve modded gotek more ram custom sprayed orange with black keyboard looks the business now
Now using my Amiga Mini with a Logitech A120 keyboard and MX Master 3 wireless mouse.
Gemma, did you try bringing up the on screen keyboard for Street Fighter 2? Just thinking if you have to press key 1 or 2 to start the game.
Ahhhh you are psychic. Keyboard support is in my next video ;) ;)
It requires the 1 or 2 key, but the WHDLoad patch could be changed to the fire button starting a one player game pretty easily.
Games like Real Ghostbusters probably need a default speed limiter as they run as fast as possible, and the hardware can run them at 50fps whereas the original A500 was probably 25 or 16fps. I'm sure the patchers will update some of these games to play better on the mini.
@@Codetapper 😊
I remember the first batman on my original amiga 500 it was the batman pack along with new Zealand story
Good times eh?! Do you still own it?
@TheGebs24 yes it's in the attic and it still works!
@@DTyrrell007 Get in
Hostages ,barbarian,James pond,north &,south, skid marks
got to try 'nitro', 'vroom' and everybody is all about another world, but let's give some love to flashback.
Nostalgia ( Amiga Stag discs, son of stag, bride of stag etc etc ) , every teenagers dream. 😊
I enjoyed this a lot. Thank you. Please try Test Drive 2 and Sensible World Of Soccer and also The Settlers and The Chaos Engine - too many great games!
To me it seemed that games like Turtles and Real Ghostbusters are emulated too fast. Same for Shadow Of The Beast.
For Streetfighter 2 you had to press 1 or 2 on the keyboard to bypass the menu screen. It isn't until you start a fight that you needed to change disks.
Thanks Ian. More testing coming up so I will try these for you
@@TheGebs24 Thank you so much. I always love great Amiga content. Can you run the Workbench OS on the mini? That'd be great.
The AVGN is a god though 🤣🤣
Gemma, get yourself a CD32 with a terrible fire tf330 expansion card that has an ide to compact flash card (or se card) adapter where you can store your games on. Best of both worlds in that you can play cd32 games on cd or Amiga 500/600/1200 games via the memory card. I can recommend a great ebay seller, that’s on the Amiga forums, that can do the tf330 card, ide to compact flash adapter and memory card loaded with games. Bought from them in December and his technical support was awesome.
A1200s are, for some reason, sky rocketing in price.
Well I own a CD32. Guess I just need the card
@@TheGebs24 the cd32 is basically an a1200 with a cd drive 😀
The expansion card also lets you plug in a keyboard and controller port 1 works with the Amiga mouse.
I have troubles with 2 great games (having USB keyboard)
1. Hired guns. I did character selection. The map appears. But couldnt start the mission.
2. History Line. Downloaded as all other games from Amigalemon as WHDDownLoad pre-installed file. But not working. Its starts to load, a screen appears, but immediatelly fall dawn. Any idea how to play this superb strategy?
This is a great mini system🤓 I bought a pre-setup jump drive with a bunch of Amiga games and Amiga CD32 on it. Saves me from having to pull out my original AMIGA CD32 with TF330 and TF328😁
There's nothing wrong with skeggy I'm off for the week on Saturday 👍👍
LOVE Skeg. They have a great fair and the charity shops are epic
Oh and enjoy
@@TheGebs24 on it lol
Bart vs the space mutants and lemmings series and the 2 chuck rock games
super frog is amazing
It is indeed
Gem, if you liked the movie The Running Man (in which I love too), please read the Richard Bachman (Stephen King) book in which it is derived. The book is very different and actually much better than its film counterpart. They are actually two different entities IMO, as the movie is only a shadowy reflection of the book and it really is very different. Supposedly, a proper film adaptation of the book is in production. However, the Arnold film is so fun and will forever have its own life.
