Your report is illuminating, but l have to correct some points. First,. Muslim Malays have their own version of Kolo mee, albeit with beef as meat. The original Kolo mee have pork or even chicken as meat. Then, Bak Kut Teh actually means meat bones herbal concoction as in Bak (meat) Kut (bones) and Teh (herbs). Opponents insist that Bak here means pork, which is erroneous. It can mean beef, lamb or even seafood. Problem is some politicians wanted to score brownie points with their Muslim voters and they blew the issue sky-high!
malaysian politicians need this topic to better team-up themselves against non-muslim people and outsiders, without invoking race issue, they can't do anything else. malaysian politicians don't talk about long-term benefits or country's benefits, all they care is to utilize their islamic religion to unite their people and secure their position so that they can stay in power to enjoy their luxury lifestyle. some might say don't waste time on this and focus on more important things but they're still not doing anything productive even if they don't fight on this topic. if they're so capable, m'sia won't be in this bad progression so far.

What is the point of this? Both countries share common roots, there should be no such thing as cultural supremacy over food, it just makes no sense.
I think Bak Kut teh happens to be a favourite dish to one politician. Hence, it became a hot topic in the parliament debates. I’m from Singapore and I’m a Muslim. The first time I ate halal claypot beef (Bak) Kut teh was in the 90s and it instantly became one of my favourites (I love Chinese food). I love the smell and taste of its herbal broth. And from there I began to adopt the liking of unique taste of herbal duck too. I seriously don’t care where it’s originated from Singapore or Malaysia. Because I think the credits should rightfully go to the Chinese (both singaporean and malaysian) who successfully created this glorious dish.
Actually it is indeed a Heritage food. even those days when it started, Singapore was still under Federation of Malaya. This dish brought the recipe from his hometown in Fujian, China, in the 1940s. Very popular even from those days for the Chinese immigrants working as labourers in Malaya. . But still it is very embarassing. .It is not uncommon politicians in Malaysia will waste time fight over such minor matters then using their time for important issues
Err... Nope. It begins in Qing dynasty. People who eat the dish in Singapore had pigtails, there are pictures in the national archives. Hence why the Caucasian stereotype Chinese as Chinese pigs. Cuz our ancestors had pigtails and eat pigs. The Malaysia version begin after world war 2, that is true. Cuz after world war 2, the opium trade died off, since China no longer buy opium, your ancestors simply add opium to some dishes hence you got Klang bah kut teh
Haha! why am I not surprised, here it go again Singapore vs Malaysia issue. For 'F' sake, I am trying to emphasize about more important issue than Bak Kut teh to argue about in the parliament. And if you know the history of this dish, the person who bought this dish is from the Fujian province. I did not say it was originated from Fujian@@Salasaur
@@isaaclee1634 that's why I said nope, it wasn't something someone brought over from fujian. The dish existed because an entire province back then already had that style of food. Malaysian media coverage only emphasize someone called Lee Boon Teh brought the dish to Malaysia. Yet it's only after world war 2 that the Klang version start emerging. Whereas Singapore version started back during Qing dynasty, with pictorial evidence of people having pigtails eating the dish.
Malaysia perhaps richer in SE Asia within 80s to 90s but thr political based racial biased could tackle and separates the country even further. That is actually poor thank tsuch old country still in dialy argue over races like they waste their time.

Even if BKT is declared a Malaysian Heritage Dish, does not prevent SG doing the same. Not that SG will bother. For one, SG's BKT is totally different from theirs and secondly why can't 2 countries with a similar culture and history claim the same national heritage. I don't think anyone in SG will give a toss if MY sought UNESCO heritage status for Malaysian Hawker Culture.
Exactly! Malaysia is always so concerned about Singapore while Singapore doesn’t give a flying F about Malaysia lol. Indeed it is a one-sided obsession
if those politics have time fight for this kind of they better think one way how to reduce the inflation better if why elected him better elected myself fighting for food heritage stupid while other stuff more important the food price rise like rocket why not fix that first

Char koay teow=pork lard Dim sum=pork based Penang hokkien mee/prawn noodle=pig bone broth Basically list goes on yet the malay muslim community managed to come out with their halal version. Which street food that the current malay muslim sells that isn't from the local chinese community except maybe nasi lemak. Yet they are fine with all these. Without making halal versions of food from the chinese community you would be seeing every malay selling only nasi lemak or ramlee burgers. No offence to the malay muslim community but they should not be biased and easily manipulated by politicians. Main issue right now stems from them being willingly and easily led into protests and anger once politicians plays the religion card. Sad but true.

No one should claim any kind of food to be theirs, food isn't restricted by borders, Singapore can say its known for these foods, why can't Malaysia do the same or vice versa? Both countries share common roots, there should be no such thing as cultural supremacy over food, it just makes no sense.
A nation in brawl over a bow of soup. 😅😅😅
Everybody wants to be in the history books.
Stirring in unnecessary arguments over food classification! There are more essential matters that require dire attention and solutions!
Sigh !
@@Salasaur provide evidence
Malaysia perhaps richer in SE Asia within 80s to 90s but thr political based racial biased could tackle and separates the country even further. That is actually poor thank tsuch old country still in dialy argue over races like they waste their time.
can bah ku teh be national food of tanah melayu ? i think no, can bah ku teh be national food of malaysia , yesss!!! dont forget malaysia is multiracial country, dont forget malaysia is not about west malaysia only , we have east malaysia too where so call bumi having pork in their meals . so i hope west majority group stop thinking they own everything
Singapore is good always provide contents for Malusia politicians to debate in their parliament
😂😂U are so right on!!
if those politics have time fight for this kind of they better think one way how to reduce the inflation better if why elected him better elected myself fighting for food heritage stupid while other stuff more important the food price rise like rocket why not fix that first
Nasi Lemak from Malaysia and Bak Ku Teh from Singapore
actually promoting bak kut teh do help malaysia tourism,.... many still blinded with decades of malay supremacy ideology and forgo own economy,...
Desperate move to make babi heritage food. Chicken & Seafood pun boleh….. Malaysia you never surprise me.
Malaysian politicians don't have the brain to tackle the current economic woes, but they are wasting time quarreling over Bak Ku Tae.
😮🙏 Many Malaysian Hindus , Buddhists & Sikhs are Vegans! We think Nasi Lemak & Cendol with Gula Melaka ( Palm Sugar ) are more suitable to be listed into the Malaysia National Dishes List as they are easier to be altered into Vegan dish & dessert! 😊🙏🌷🌿🌏✌💜🕊🇲🇾🇸🇬
Such fights among the Malaysia Politicians is a disgrace . It shows how Malaysians are so kiasu … always wanna fight with Singapore till they have to fight it out among themselves 😂
Not only brawl over soup, also 5 pairs of socks!😮
Char koay teow=pork lard
Dim sum=pork based
Penang hokkien mee/prawn noodle=pig bone broth
Basically list goes on yet the malay muslim community managed to come out with their halal version.
All three are from Singapore .. they just feel that it’s from them lol😂
only malaysian chinese, not all malay. In fact, we didn't want it.
When the economy is bad, people have less tolerance for everything and everybody
Singapore... Singapore... Singapore... you're a master of putting others down to bring yourself up. You're so full of it. This channel is nothing but just a branch of CNA, the so-called news channel. Having a British-accented voice-over doesn't make your content more truthful, believable, and trust-worthy.
Politicians from Islamic Parties heat up this small issues. They're don't play opposition rules perfectly if you asking me. The Bak Kut Teh didn't have in our neighborh. Now if the Singapore get the Bak Kut Teh the opposition also blaming government for not takes this heritage food into Malaysia.
Ye ye !
Saya boleh tengok ‘aurat’ prmpn ArabSaudi di-Pertandingan Ratu Chantek !!
Ye ye !
Was’salam
Remember Malaysia is a muslim country.Islam is the official religion. The Bak KuTeh soup is not suitable to highlight because it is not consume by the majority of the population due to pork and pork oil ingredient in the soup. The problem with the chinese group in Malaysia is they refuse to accept that certain food cannot be highlight and against religious sentiment here. This kind of provocation and attempt to create racial war is very now since the DAP a chinese predorminant party is part of the ruling political party .Guess this is the last time they strive .The majority of the population willill

I guess Malaysia need to be #1 in something to feel proud, so they went for food..
1) moving the country backwards and, 2) corruption - these two should be enough to bring them proud for the mext 5 centuries to come.
#1 and world famous for corruption already ma
This is the doing of some politicians this too happens everywhere else, like in usa they debate on the gander of mr potato head.
Please don't link Sarawak with Malaysia in Sarawak we are nothing like them.
Precisely
Low quality mafia type policians.
Can you do a new documentary on shoes and socks as well? Loving it
Bak kut teh is from pigs source.. In malaysia, as a Muslim country it's not proper for us to recognise this kind of food as heritage.
in all respect to the muslim the word bak mean meat it can be any type of meat example chicken or beef
Malaysia culture should resembles Saudi Arabia culture. That solves all the problem. Let Singapore takes care Wan Tan Mee & Bah Kut Teh likes... You don't have Wan Tan mee in Saudi Arabia.
Don't defame a multi-racial country. Outsider!
Akmal incharge of Malaysia not anwar.
😂ultimately Sin$ will still prevail, and Malaysian know this by heart and hard.
