    EXCELLENT advice. I do essentially the same thing but this is a quicker way!

    I must have missed something, I deleted the files and uploaded the new ones and the site didn't work. What I ended up doing is loading a backup that had malware and ran defender malware scanner. I see a few folders and files that looked corrupted but not sure about deleting them.

      Yeah, it could be tricky if wrong files are deleted.

    How do I know if files have been hacked? I'm not a programmer.

      1. Use a Security Plugin: Install a reputable security plugin like Wordfence or Sucuri Security. These plugins can scan your site for known vulnerabilities and suspicious changes in core files.
      2. Check for Modified Files: Some security plugins (Wordfence for example)can compare your core files against the official WordPress repository to identify any differences. If core files have been tampered with, the plugin will alert you.
      3. Monitor for Anomalies: Regularly check for any unusual behavior on your website. This includes unexpected redirects, new admin accounts, or suspicious changes in content.
      4. Google Search Console: Use Google Search Console to check if Google has detected any issues with your site. Google may flag your website as potentially hacked if they discover any malicious activity.
      5. File Timestamps: Compare the timestamps (modification dates) of your core files with a fresh WordPress installation. Suspiciously recent modifications may indicate a hack.
      6. Malware Scanning Tools: Use online malware scanning tools like Sucuri sitecheck or VirusTotal to check your website for malware. These tools can scan your website's URL for known malware signatures.

    Why do I have to use Wordfence if I already have server level protection + waf like BitNinja or imunify360?

    • @wpsimplehacks
      @wpsimplehacks  Рік тому +1

      You don’t have to use it if your own protection services display infected files. I used WF as an example for those who don’t have anything else on their server.
