I really love going busking. Some of my friends and I gather together in a public space, and we make music, we work on a dance form, or we make visual art, just for the fun of it. Sometimes, people like what they see/hear, and we get a little tip, with monthly tips ranging from beer at the pub, all the way to the month's rent.

Don’t forget the old fashioned Sunday Drives in the country as a fun thing to do. My late husband and I use to do that often. We lived in Chicago at the time, one particular Sunday we took off from Chicago toward Wisconsin, we had so much fun exploring the countryside, and chatting that suddenly, we realized we were in Green Bay!

My husband loves car trips too (avoiding the high way).
We lived in the middle of the Netherlands, did something for his birthday a bit to the left. The little one and me fell asleep in the car.
I open one eye and see a EU flag next to the road. I open two and see "Welcome to Germany"😂.
My husband said we were both very tired and he felt like schnitzel. 😅

@@frugaldutchmom1359 I can understand that. There’s nothing like authentic schnitzel in Germany. I lived in Germany for a year in my mid 20’s. Best food ever!

I love the yearly photography award idea! What a good and fun idea for an "age appropriate 😉" day out with your kids and their partners.
We do lunch in the car and a promise of a nice treat or snack when we get back to the car often on days out.
Pasta salad for lunch and a stop over at a grocery store for bread and cheese for dinner.
We have also brought one of those tiny camping burners, a pot and everything for hotdogs. Foldable camping table and chairs and we're eating outdoors

Just got over a serious illness that lasted several months, I am well now, I will be 67 in July and just retired in March, I am a 2 hour drive from a beautiful beach 🏖️ on Lake Michigan, I am planning to drive up for the day ( hopefully) once a week, taking my own food , the only cost is gas and fortunately my 21 year old car with almost 300,000 miles gets very good gas mileage ( new brakes and rotors this week, mechanic said everything looks great, new tires this winter purchased on a Black Friday deal 😊) after being so seriously sick I am really looking forward to these trips ❤

I didn’t know all these great ideas. Thank You ! With the cost of inflation, we are watching where our dollars go. When the kids were small we packe sore made sandwiches and ate in the car at theame parks. I would allow to spend money on ice cream inside the theame parks. So it was a win for everyon😊e.

I live in west-central Ohio. I’m within 90 minutes of Columbus, Cincinnati and Toledo, so finding free events in one of those cities is fairly easy if I want to drive. However, my small city offers free concerts on the court square on Friday evenings during the summer. We also have a wonderful Farmers Market throughout the summer. A lot of the smaller towns in the area also have some sort of festival. There’s a large, beautiful park nearby that is hosting a Cruise-In, and also a Civil War encampment this year. And my great grandchildren are involved in sports so I’m able to attend those games. I don’t lack for things to do!!

Oh yes local theaters do cheap summer movies (were free back when I was a kid) but now $1to$5 some upwards to $10 including drink popcorn and fruit snack... also Tuesdays at our local theater tickets are only $6 and half price popcorn! Look into that also!!

If there is a College nearby, or Community College, check out their Theater or Music departments for free or inexpensive events. Student productions, Music recitals, Choir Concerts, Orchestra or Band programs can be very enjoyable. Also sometimes they have Art displays, students photography displays that are fun to see. Don’t forget about college sporting events, baseball games, track and field, gymnastics events, all fun things to do. And now that you’re Seniors you qualify for a discount lifetime membership, costs about $80, for admission to all the National Parks! Small cost for a lifetime of admissions!

Love the photo contest with teen and adult children HOW MUCH FUN!!
Also a scavenger hunt is fun!
Some states have a free app with tickets to go to different places for school aged kids and their parents... so ages 17& under!
For Kansas it's called Sunflower Summer...
All through the state!! At different state parks free camping, free museums, free nature area visits, library activities etc...
also going to the library they hand out passes to things sometimes!! But so many events at the library!!
County & state Fair is fun but entering into competitions can somdtimes get you in free or get ride passes! So create some art or pies together and then go and enjoy the Day out!
Pizza hut does a summer program free kid-sized pizzas for reading! Also have a homeschool program too!!
Another idea we get a membership for a zoo or kids place like science city .... we budget $100 to $300 which allows our big family of 9 to get the membership, with discounts in shops and concessions too! But then after 2 or 3 visits it pays for itself! We attempt going once a month!! So so fun!

Every year our library hosts movies in the park. And a series of free concerts. I add them all to our calendar. I also figured out another neighboring city has a free concert with the sympony. A nearby college holds a free jazz festival. Free fun!

Thanks Hope and Larry, I love your show! I have a question for another show if you can please. I get paid monthly ( I live in the UK). This means I only have 1 opportunity a month to pay down on my debt. It feels like I am constantly waiting for my next pay cheque to make more progress and just being very inactive the rest of the month! How can I feel purposeful all month long?

We moved to IN last year and live outside of the city limits so we have to pay to use the library. We were shocked and it isn't a small fee. It is over $100/year so we are so disappointed.

We are lucky enough to have to live an hour and a half away from a state park on the beach (ocean). It’s $7 during the week or $10 on weekends per car. They have bathrooms, showers, snack bar and lifeguards. You can bring in your own food but must take all your trash with you.

My oldest son in Chicago invented frugality and I personally do not know anyone more frugal than he is, however ( for example) they love to eat out, my son always looks for deals and coupons online ( Chicago area) and those coupons and deals determine where they eat, frugality in most areas is what enables us to financially be able to afford and enjoy what is important to us, frugality to the point of never allowing us to enjoy anything is not the point.
