    Hi Andrew sorry just catching up been busy at work of late!
    Such a great video and love seeing your gorgeous Corrado, I have always liked them since I sat in one in the showroom in Stourbridge when new!
    Like all older Volkswagen they could take the mileage and were well made and reliable but they were always a low volume car which probably explains the parts situation and now they are becoming desirable parts are rare and expensive! I guess it’s essential to be part of the owners club
    But what a lovely car a sports car and a grand tourer! I wish they still made the scirocco or Corrado now! Love seeing videos on it and look forward to the next one

    I loved my 92 vr6. Paid $12 3 years old with 43,000 miles. Unbeknownst to me the shifter linkage was welded after breaking but lasted till I sold it at 95,000 miles. Overheated all the time. The sec9ndary gas pump caused gas fumes inside the car, and I had to pay to adjust the valves. I believe it mat have had a burnt valve also. I was told it was unsafe to drive due to fuel pump and sold it for $4000. It was like a crazy girlfriend, fun but comes at a price

    Good summary of the top 10 things to look for. Good to see your Corrado again. On the sunroof the mk3 mech does indeed fit, and is a more robust design but you need a B4 series Passat roof to match the curve of the corrado roof (mk3 glass does not). Well worth owners knowing that as I know how frustrating a non working roof is to fix. A mk3 mech is 50 quid vs 250 quid plus corrado breakers will charge for the chocolate corrado one.

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  Рік тому +1

      Good advice there, thanks! I used to trawl VW Vortex in the early 00s for info on repairing roof as there was not much from the UK and they used to talk about Passat moonroof, is that the B4 one? I bet they are hard to find now aren't they? Some chap has commented that he makes the parts for the roof so that's interesting - some of the bits that break are connected to the cable so I'd be interested to know how he gets around that.

    • @mattsgaragex
      @mattsgaragex Рік тому

      @@volkswizard yes a chap called Kieran Aylesbury way remade high quality parts for our sunroofs. He is part pf CCGB and also has done some really interesting analysis on vin/reg/corrados/options left on the road. That is the great thing about Corrados - the community supports where VW does not.
      Yes the b4 is the passat roof. I bought 2x used corrado roofs andboth broke so I went mk3 and the passat roof. I am happy with it as it brightens the cabin. I did have my tin roof repainted with the car incase I change my mind.
      I do love the corrado but have been watching your videos and am starting to want something mk7 - gti or R, probably GTI. I have a mk2 16v and mk3 16v and one will have to go to have something more modern.... probably the mk3.

      @@volkswizard it a 2.0 16v (9A so k-jet) on a 92 (facelift so VR6 bonnet, wings etc) You're certainly right about expensive and hard to find parts. It took me ages to find a coil for this car. I wanted new but had to settle for used as I couldn't new anywhere. It is the round coil with the amplifier on it. The issue I have now is it loose's spark as you go from cyl 4 -> 1. So 4 strong, 3 less, 2 less, 1 very weak spark. We are hoping the new distributor will fix it as the coils didn't (tried 3) already done plugs, leads, rotar arm, cap etc.

    Hello from Ohio! Love the VR6! My daily driver, for the past TWENTY years, has been my super fun and reliable 6-speed manual 2003 24v VR6 GTI. I purchased it new back in October 2002. Has only about 124K miles on it. The only thing that perplexes me is that dealerships (and the manual) claim that you never have to change the manual transmission oil on these cars, for 'the life of the car'! I have never changed the oil, but the car shifts almost as crisply and smoothly as day one. I've heard claims that as soon as you change the transmission oil, you are risking some kind of failure. Is this true?

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  Рік тому +1

      I think autos are more prone to going wrong when the oil is changed as the prodedure is more complicated usually. The issue with manuals is that everyone thinks they are going the right thing by using some fully synthetic wonder oil and quite often this makes shifting worse. So if you use GENUINE VW oil and fill it correctly and follow the correct procedure such as running it in gears before the final top up then you shouldn't have an issue and I'd definitely recommend doing it.

      Hi Jerry, OK well forget the GTD, the GT 140 will be ample but spec might be tricky as xenons are so rare. You might have to downgrade the wheels to 16s as GTs are 17 I think but easy enough.
      Match model also worth considering, avoid the 1.6 TDI though

    Electrically...these cars are a mess. The grounding is pretty atrocious. All the connectors in my engine bay and interior all had warped or melted connectors. The terminals on the main engine harness plug (behind the intake manifold) were brown and warped. The plug to the fan switch completely melted. I had to replace the entire plug. The insulation around the wires that plug into the fuse block under the dash were all melted. Unless those issues have already been addressed...you're going to be in for a lot of work...and headaches. As much as I miss mine...I would not take on another one. Everything in the car has got to be all brittle by now.
