I had a run away .rack was stuck. Engine shut off after 2 minutes on its own. Any idea why it shut off?

Never heard of a a run away, unless it was due to stuck throttle linkage. As for shutting off, I have to assume it ran out of fuel. Are you sure the electric fuel pump is working? What car is this?

@@adamsorell4851 Wish I could help. But I have never owned or worked on a diesel. What I have heard is your problem could be vacuum related. Is it possible the engine shut off due to it sensing a problem? I bet there is something on UA-cam or Google that will help answer your questions. Good luck.

Hello Mr. Will, hope you doing well. Do you think it is possible to convert Mercedes 2 plunger fuel injection system with this type of 6 plunger injection system? My car is 1963 Mercedes 220SE. Thank you

Hey Mohanad, thanks for viewing. I cannot see how it would be possible to convert from 2 plunger to 6. it would be easier to install a complete 6 plunger engine. The engine would be a very straight forward bolt in project. Hope this helps. Will

@@Mercedes-Guru Thank you sir, I am doing great. But I meant to convert the whole fuel injection system including , the injection pump, intake manifold, fuel line etc., and keep just a bare engine. Is the pump mount gonna be the same? how about supplied quantity, specially if I used pump from 230 (donor car) , instead of 220 (my car). Appreciate your help sir

@@alkhashtee I don't have a 2 plunger system here to compare with a 6 plunger system. So I could only use the parts books to check what parts are interchangeable. It appears the 6 plunger pump would bolt in place. The only issue I found was the intake gasket to the cylinder head is different for the 2 plunger and 6 plunger. This is because the 2 plunger injectors go in the intake manifold. The 6 plunger injectors screw into the cylinder head. So just swapping the intake manifolds would not work. You need to use the 6 plunger cylinder head. As for the fuel pump, the later style short fuel pump replaced the long pump on your car. So the fuel pump specs would be the same for the 2 plunger and 6 plunger system.

If I remove the injector lines from the top of the pump and spray carb cleaner down into the pump, will that assist in freeing the rack? Stuck on a Case 1150 Dozer.

    • @will4432

It might. I do not think you can hurt anything. The rack can be stuck. And the plungers the rack acts on could be stuck. I have read in my auto mags that a 50/50 blend of ATF and lacquer thinner is great for this. I would use any solvent you can think of. I like spray B-12 as I can spray it where I need it. I would also spray to flush the area as well as let the spray sit and soak. But the B-12 will evap quickly so get a couple of cans and use it freely. Keep it away from good paint and wear safety glasses. While it won't blind you it does sting. Good luck.

Thanks for the response. I'm about at wits end. Nothing seems to help. I sure don't want to remove the pump from the machine, but it looks like that's what it's coming to. I tried spraying into the tops of the plungers after removing the lines, however, they are all closed, so nothing entered them.

Can you unscrew the plungers from the top of the inj pump? I only know gas FI pumps but they are based on diesel FI pumps. The ones I deal with have the plungers screwed into the FI pump body. They are usually locked into position with clamps. I looked on line at pics of Case pumps and most of them had aluminum split clamps at base of the male fitting to which you attach the inj lines. Remove those clamps and unscrew the male fitting. You can then access the inside of the FI pump and make sure the male fittings are not clogged. Did you buy a manual for it? I see them offered for sale for $17.

Go for it. We use lots of spray cans of B12. I have read in the trade publications that 50/50 mix of ATF and lacquer thinner is useful. Good luck.
