I have a bunch of dress hats from JJ Hat Center NY. Simply the best hat shop. Thanks to their advice and support even online buying a hat from them is a fun experience.
Kevin at Hats and Guitars mis THE man when it comes to learning real stuff about all aspects of the hat trade. He loves the hats and loves sharing what he knows and showing how he can give new life to a good hat that has seen trials and tribulations in its life. Very good video.
The crushable or rollable concept of the Stratoliner started as a way for the traveler to look good on arrival in the earlier days of rough airline travel.
That one's a house special from JJ Hat Center, see the link below. I'm pretty sure it's almost identical to a Stetson that I think they called the adventure. If you contact them they can definitely help you out, they're really responsive. www.jjhatcenter.com/products/the-explorer-in-navy
Thanks for the time you spent with this video. Good job on the flange adjustment. It took me a while, but I've become a fan of the upturned fedora brim, too. Too much flange is no bueno. I'm a Kevin fan, as well. I've bought a lot of Stratoliners from various vendors (JJ, Delmonico, and Stetson), but have been drawn to buying Stetston Temples for a while to fill out all of the possible colors that are available. (The light grey is my favorite.) I recently bought a black Stetson Metropolitan (which is basically a Temple in beaver felt) with a generous discount at JJ's because I wanted to see the difference between rabbit and beaver felt hats. The color options for Stetson beaver fedoras are limited, as you probably know. While I notice an improved thickness/quality difference between the rabbit and beaver felt, I'm not sold on whether the price difference is worth it. Anyway, thanks for your video. And too bad your wife doesn't like your hats. I'm not totally bald, but my thinning hair isn't my best attribute, so I wear hats all the time, even when I'm at home like Kevin does. I don't have anyone to complain. But you're lucky you have someone who does.
Agree on the brim up style, gotta just own it. Im afraid to upload my own hat videos, but like you I think they could be useful. Appreciate the review!
ua-cam.com/video/L2KTouGqhaY/v-deo.htmlsi=7Lr1wF83CHq1Q5KM Above is the video where Kevin shaped that one. I believe he mentions the exact model. It was a great hat, but ultimately just a smidge small for me. My wife ended up selling it on Poshmark.
Ha! My wife doesn't like my hats either, but she's into Back Street Boys and N' Sync so I don't worry about her opinions that pertain to well dressed men before 2005.
Both of the hats in this video are rabbit fur felt of differing thickness. It's not fully flattened, though that could be done. I softened it up with steam, from a kettle, turned the hat upside down and used the edge of the counter as a straight edge. I applied just a bit of pressure and let it cool. Once the felt cools the stiffener in the material hardens up again and will hold that shape. I went bit by bit around the brim till I was happy with it. Look up Kevin from JJ Hat Center here on UA-cam and he's got a ton of videos about how to manipulate your hat.
Not my style either but we fedora wearing guys need to stick together and support each other. I just turned 60 with a short gray beard, completely bald and just starting wearing a fedora last week. Got a compliment from a beautiful young lady. Confidence way up!
GREAT JOB !!!!! wear it in the best of health!!☮️💟

Great video comparison thanks for sharing! Also find not many hat videos except from Kevin at jjhats!

Very good video.
Great job creasing the first hat!! Yes Kevin is a gift to us hat guys, I’ve bought many hat s from JJ hat center in NYC!
Thx Jack!!!
Great idea for trimming those ribbon ends. I've avoided hats with thin ribbons because of the issue you described. 👍👍. Kevin @ JJ Hat's is amazing.
Thx bud☮️
Rather than trimming the ends, u can use two tack stitches and just tack them down to the side of the crown, that’s something we do a lot for folks.
Hat looks great you. Thanks for sharing. Pretty iconic hat.

shout out to Kevin!
Wazzzup????☮️💟🤠👍
Awesome review, both hats look great. Thanks
Kevin is legend and so humble. Bucket list stuff is visiting JJ Hat Center and have Kevin (if he’s available) fit me in a hat of his choosing.
I purchased from JJ Hat Center Stetson stratoliner special edition. great hat in blue
Can you tell me what the make & model of the taupe fedora is? Great video. VERY informative! Great to see the differences between the 2 hats.

Thanks Roberto!

Interesting, I'm torn between the Temple and the Metropolitan. I've read that the Temple's brim has a tendency to curl badly. 🤔🤔

2 GREAT hats!
Nice review thx. I'm thinking of getting this hat just so I can change crown shapes whenever I feel like.
Excellent video! I have a new perspective on the Stratoliner now.
Great review. Yeah my wife isn’t really into any of my hats either.
A really beautiful hat.
I have a lot of hats for JJ Hat #1
Kevin
I’m lucky my wife loves my hats!
Great job. Thanks for the info! Maybe a little color next time. Other than your face and a bag of raisins, I'm looking at a black and white video. 😜
Great video. Thanks you for posting it.
I like your older hat and what hat is that..? I have a small head and that brim is perfect for me.

Rim up!!! That's how I wear mine.

How did you flatten the flange on the fawn hat? Also is it fur or wool?

How about a 4yr review on that hat? Hows it holding up?
Look good 👍👍👍 to care what other people think the majority of the time you loose.Just letting you know.
Thank you, much appreciated.
Too bad that the Premier Stratoliners, awesome hats that they are, appear to be discontinued.
The brim tipped up in the front is lame in my opinion. Good looking hat though.
U can flip it down too if u prefer

Looks like the Breaking Bad dude
