If you're doing hobby type jobs about the house the best option is a machine that can do flux core or mig. I use mine exclusively with flux core because 1. it only gets used occasionally 2. i don't want to faff about with gas bottles etc. 3. most of the stuff i do is outside 4. If need be ive always got the option to switch to mig if my needs change in future. I suppose its all about the application but having the option is the best of both worlds for the hobby welder.
Here I bought a bottle $350 was $90 to fill with Argon, mix 2 years ago now it's last one was $120 E size bottle, ( small bottle 😂) thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones
My 20 l bottles are around 250 € one time payment if you rent them, a filling is around 40 €. It's 82/18. There are also 50 l bottles but they are too heavy to handle without a crane.
I'm in Australia & I rent a D size bottle of Argon/CO2 for $108 P/Y & that includes a refill. I also mainly only do welding on car panels & have found gasless burns too hot for thin sheetmetal. Gasless in .08mm where I use .06mm with gas. I get where you're coming from though. Gasless is fine for heavier metals.
Take the cone off, it’s for directing the gas to the work which you don’t need for flux core and it lets you see the arc puddle easier. Use a longer stick out as well.
Nah, he does it to harden the outermost few atom layers of the steel by diffusing some carbon from the beer into the material while it cools. Bro's playing the real 4D chess. /s
They ripping you off on the gas in NZ. I bought my bottle for $120 and the local yard will fill it for $40. No rental bullshit. Keep up the good work Pete.
@GluteusMaximus808 holy shit! $200 for gas!! I'll bet there's not a lot of welding supply shops around. Keep using the ol Fluxcore, practical over price.🤙
Depending what your doing gasless (flux core) can be a god send, it's not great but better than arc for certain jobs, especially thinner stuff and hard to reach stuff but can be quite splattery. I made a sidecar chassis using one and abused the sidecar off road etc and all those ugly splattery welds held up. 🤷🏻 Horses for courses and you get what you pay for.
something to note is the size of the spool a flux core welder will run. the smaller spools cost more per pound. if you can run a bigger spool, the wire will cost you less over time. for little random things, you'll probably only notice on days that you need to resupply. i like having a spare spool on hand personally. if you want to do other metals, you can get stainless and aluminum sticks for a stick welder. you'll need a dc inverted stick welder for aluminum for sure. i think you can get dc stainless sticks are either. just something to consider that i didn't. i've got 2 welders now, stick and flux core lol. no need for a bottle and i can do whatever i'll grant ya, it's not a pretty tig job but it certainly works.
working in boat repair. Rusty nasty steel with the wind blowing. you could never do it with gas. flux core handles the wind and burns right through the rust. I have even used it to weld up holes that were dripping water. I can do TIG welding too it's not a matter of skills it's a matter of appropriate for the location. I wouldn't use flux core to weld up nuclear certified plumbing.
Flux welders are typically cheaper to purchase, but the flux wire is more expensive than gas and normal wire. A normal mag welder is more expensive in purchase but cheaper in TCO for people who weld a lot. For occasional use flux is cheaper. Companies don't use flux because of this reason.
...and the nearly most important advantage of Fluxcore is when you have to bring the welder to another place you don´t have to carry the heavy weight gas bottle !
If you're in a situation where you have to fabricate, or weld repairs in a vehicle and you have to do it outside, flux core makes more sense for most folks.
So after you finish a video do you think to yourself 'why the f@$# did I just do that to my tools!' 😁 One video I think you cut a good looking spirit level in half, another time you put a few random screws in your sheds cross beam - narrowly missing an electrical cable, and in this video you welded 4 Allen keys together 😊 Most people have a few spare Allen keys laying around, but the next time you went to use your spirit level did you regret cutting it in half? 😁
Buy flux core if your home bodging, if u want good welds just listen to any a professional welder..petes great, but not a welder...for home, mild steel etc use ,any c02 will suffice, use old c02 fire extinguishers, or refillable pub bottles ( they gas your beer with it)
Agree fully, tested both many times, theres a reason industry uses gas 99% of time, its stronger, neater, easier, less imperfections, anyone who thinks flux core is better is not a trained welder,
Flux core mite be ok. As long as you dont intend on having kids. Pretty sute thats the same reason its banned in America, not that it stops them makin it and sellin it to countries like us

i love you pete
Great video Pete 👍simple and to the point - both ways of welding have their pros and cons so it was a really good demo 👍keep up the good work mate
Thanks for the feedback mate. Glad you enjoyed the video 👍

This is really helpful for me! I cant wait to do flux core!
cool mate cheers

Glad you liked it!

Good one, Pete 👍🏼. I hope you had a great Christmas 🎄 and wishing you a wonderful New Year, old mate.
Thanks Mate, Same to you!
Great info Pete! Thanks bro...
Cheers Bro
Thanks mate great show
You're welcome.
I have a cheap Harbor Freight wire feed and goog older AC DC stick .Just animated learning at 76 yrs old
Beer to cool the weld? That’s alcohol ABUSE!!😂😂😂

beeeeeer
harden the outermost few atom layers of the steel by diffusing some carbon HOW DID YOU KNOW MATE
@@petestools I studied armchair blacksmithing at the Wikipedia & Reddit university.

nah its the about the same once you convert to usd
Wanna hear about getting ripped? $400 for a scuba size tank. Just under $200 to refill here in Hilo Hawaii. I have mastered flux core lol
@GluteusMaximus808 holy shit! $200 for gas!!

yea almost same price
Oh yea but you live in great country
Great info!
Glad it was helpful!

yea true but sticking shit together in shed i like it

nuclear certified plumbing Yea haven't done that for a while
Thanks 😊
welcome
Pete great Vlogs
cheers
Your link shows the welder at £340 in the UK. Substantially costlier than $140.
mint pete
did you change welding tip
All the experts here aye
yeeee-haaa

Don’t ever use liquid to cool a weld. It will make the weld brittle.
If your buying a new welder be careful of the windings/ transformer some are CCA Alloy
ok
...and the nearly most important advantage of Fluxcore is when you have to bring the welder to another place you don´t have to carry the heavy weight gas bottle !
The only difference I see is the sputter amount. I've got to try this beer though! 😂🤣😂🤣😂
lol always better with beer mate
If you're in a situation where you have to fabricate, or weld repairs in a vehicle and you have to do it outside, flux core makes more sense for most folks.
yea wind is not good for shielding gas welding
Flux cored mig welding is probably cheaper but not better than using argon gas or argon c02 mix
depends what your welding
@petestools gasless welding is not going to be as strong as if welded using argon gas and get slag inclusion still
Dude the Gas Prices Are insane. I Pay 110$ for 10 Years for the bottle.
Use pub c02 bottles ,cheaper by far or do as i do at home, use old c02 fire extinguishers
yep thats NZ for yea
Na stuff that I use gas all the time you get no were near the splatter and the worlds look so much better. 👍

I get great welds with flux core.
Yea i cant weld for shit .I just stick shit together
Flux core is only good for hobby stuff, I never use it for customer work for good reason, it's shit.
you obviously dont know anything
Agree fully, tested both many times, theres a reason industry uses gas 99% of time, its stronger, neater, easier, less imperfections, anyone who thinks flux core is better is not a trained welder,
Imagine that, hobby welders who don't get paid prefer the cheaper option vs career welders who charge for material and labor 🤯
I respect your opinion but it's not the case.
Weld outdoors much?
My Grandson welded a haybine with the shit one and he cut 95 acres no problrm
MAYONNASE!
if you say so
@@petestools mention MAYONNASE! in your next video
Don't say that too loud... 😇🤣😂
lol
I use sticky tape from china as dont have a welder
great good luck with that

Lol yall bickering in the comments.
Run your welder not your mouth.
Hey Pete,
What happened to your Ukrainian flag 😂
?????
