The majority of Premier League clubs want to keep VAR after Wolves tabled a proposal to scrap the technology.
However, it doesn't mean the clubs are happy with it. They want significant improvements, but the Premier League says those are on the way for next season.
The majority of clubs accept the points Wolves have made, but feel scrapping VAR would be counterproductive and damage the standing of the Premier League.
Rob Dorsett explaisn why Wolves' proposal to scrap VAR is very unlikely to succeed.

It is not the VAR technology that make mistake,It is the refree who interpret the VAR technology.
its the same thing!
@@TPCDAZ VAR is like any tool-it's meant to be used correctly by those who understand it. When someone doesn't know how to use a tool properly, it's not the tool's fault. Other European leagues might not be as vocal about VAR because they might have found a better balance in its application or have different views on its effectiveness. The use of VAR has not been successful. The match officials' operating the system are biased. They only use it to favour the teams they support. Given soft penalties to others, not given to another. And your statistics are wrong. The referee association is corrupt. They need to sort themselves out. They made EPL look bad this season. This season is probably the worst officiating season in the league.

VAR should be held back until they understand know how to use it to full affect. The people in charge of VAR arn't going to fire themselves, so the Prem Clubs need to take this stand.
The clubs shouldn’t be voting for this at all it should be the fans. Without the fans these clubs are all finished. The big clubs want it because it’s used to keep them at the top.

It's not about if VAR works. It's about the referees that use it.
If the clubs vote to keep var I never want to hear a club ever again complain about it. Reason it’s 96% correct is they decide what’s correct and they find something obvious use var on it what counts as a correct decision what puts the percentage up also var clearly is inconsistent if they keep var pgmol should go and they should change they’re refs
Part of the problem (and there are many problems) is that Howard Webb's group has proven to be incompetent & lacking integrity. The Liverpool "Diaz offside" blunder & several matches where VAR declined to review a play because they didn't want to "show up" the ref on the field quickly come to mind. Yet, the Prem will involve Webb's group again if they keep VAR. The Premier League risks losing the faith & trust of its fans if they keep VAR & keep Webb in charge of it.
Newsflash! We've been using it for nearly 6 damn years now it SHOULD be near perfect now! If they can't get it right after 6yrs then they never will! GET RID
The fact that you can’t celebrate a goal properly without that doubt in your mind is the real killer. It’s the most joyous thing in football and it’s been taken away.
Your second paragraph is exactly it, and the fact so many don't get it makes me think they don't actually go to games
Ah yes, back to the days when offside goals decide games, or non-offside goals are not given because the referee thinks they were offside, back to the days when every match has several 'schwalbes' and some of them were rewarded with an unjust penalty deciding the game. The good old days!
It would be much better to go back to "those days" too many people are forgetting or simply don't know the reason why the " Offside " rule was brought in in the first place - it was to stop " goal hanging " , Yes there were goals given that were Offside but most of the time, that just meant that they were "technically" Offside which was fine - now it's come down to millimetres - which was never the point of the Offside rule - if anyone thinks that the Offside rule being so precise means that it is a fair rule for everyone then ask yourself if you think it's fair when a player is called Offside and a goal does not stand when ( because it's down to such a tiny amount ) a player with smaller feet would not have been called Offside - if you think being "penalised" for body size is fair and in the true spirit of the game then good luck to you and I hope you enjoy football when they bring in the next daft rules because we just sat back and watched while the powers that be decided that they know what's best for OUR game, they are getting rid of FA Cup replays - a brilliant thing for clubs - earning a hard fought draw away from home and getting a much needed revenue for the home replay , we've had FA Cup replays for a hundred years but those in charge know what's best - all they care about is making football better for the fans - bless their cotton socks - they really are true champions of the beautiful game
Nah, something isn’t right about this. All the commotion it’s caused throughout the entire season with every club in the league and they’re trying to say “none of the clubs want it to be scrapped and are happy to keep it in the game”?🤨
Bizarre isn't it. Clubs well and truly do not listen to their fans anymore.
@@TravelinChina Klopp has voted against it and the guy says “you can probably count the number of people voting against it on one hand”, surely at least 5 out of the 20 teams in the league have voted against it too… Forest and Wolves included, maybe even Everton
Getting rid of VAR because there are still some wrong decisions made in games is like getting rid of seatbelts because there are still people killed in car crashes.
Golden bullet? Gold would make a terrible bullet. I think he meant silver bullet
I dont understand why were not using automated offside technology? Have camera's follow the players and the ball constantly, have the camera's determine offsides and not leave it to VAR officials to draw offside lines.
VAR should be completely replacing linesman imo, theres no need for linesman referee's, they get decisions wrong soooo often. Like incorrect corner/ gk decisions. Incorrect throw-in decisions. Incorrect offside calls etc.
I would rather prefer to import Referee from other country than having England Referee on the pitch. The Problem is those lazy referee, what was wrong with Technology?
The fact is that we have talked about referee’s mistakes even more after VAR
With VAR goals are needlessly over analyzed before being awarded
It has made the game more accurate but actually worse
They need to use automated technology or scrap VAR
VAR should stay but some of the rules need clarifying such as the handball rule. Under the current guidelines the only way to avoid is to not have any arms. Also I hope they go back to flagging offside when it happens and not let play continue with the possibility of injury in defensive contacts.
Good because it makes more decisions correct than wrong. It needs tweeking not scrapping
Some of the EPL referees are officiating poorly
I would only allow the VAR officials to view replays at full speed.
If they can't decide on that, it's not a clear and obvious error.
This should help to speed up the process.
In short - SKY want to keep it.
Aston Villa vs Liverpool had 9 minutes added time come on some of the time taken was so poor.
PGMOL under Howard Webb is so poor
Doesnt make any sense to me why people want it gone, if you think they make bad decisions WITH VAR imagine what would happen without it 😅 people have forgotten how many correct goals were ruled out for offside incorrectly etc
It’s not the use of VAR that seems to be the problem it’s more how it’s being used that creates a negative perception
Scrapping VAR how will that make most epl refs who are very poor improve? Wolf please hit the nail on the head 🗣️
Why can't we move to a flag system in which the managers have the right to challenge a call 2 a game 1 in each half if manager is wrong once the ref has reviewed it he loses that challenge like cricket and tennis. Then if they didn't challenge and come to the press room to moan you can say why didn't u challenge the call then.
But VAR decisions that are wrong are make or brake a football club, that's the problem here...
It greatly improved towards the end of this season. Quicker decisions and it seems the referee on pitch has more control. Obviously some mistakes still made .
Should be scrapped as well as officials
VAR can be used like how the third umpire is used in cricket. There are 2 challenges per club, if you get a challenge right, the challenge is retained. In football, the captain gets to challenge the referees decision. Cricket has become more interesting after the 3rd umpire, football unfortunately has regressed after VAR coming in for every single thing.
I am in favour of keeping var but something is not clear and obvious if it takes more thann30 seconds.
If it takes any longer than that the field decision should stand
It's amazing how some football fans can wait for years (or even forever 😂) for their teams to reach competitive levels or become champions, yet they don't have the patience to wait for a 5-minute VAR decision 🙄😂.
When you say majority you mean so called top 6 want to keep it
Why even the media also shaying away from the truth the official in England are really poor face the fact
Why the hell would you remove VAR? I do not remember the pre-VAR times fondly as some nostalgics do. VAR is simply exposing how bad the refs are and putting them under scrutiny, and I'm all for that. Focus on improving the standard of referees in the Premier League.
The issue isn't the var it is the fact the referees AREN'T PROPERLY TRAINED to referee a match especially after the sock incident yesterday and 94% far too HIGH
Var technology is ok but individual handling erru are the cause wether is deliberately done or not right now is not creating any different than be for
Good news, VAR is here to stay, improving the Ref both on the field and in the VAR rooms are what they need to do.
As a fan this all you need to see where these clubs stand
82% is not good enough.... simple as
Semi-auto offside technology
Goal-line technology
And while we're at it mic up the refs like rugby.
Bang, done, simple.
SCRAP VAR.
Is a good technology in football but the decisions makers referees are just not doing great in it ,, especially in England this season loads of poor VAR
noooo
Teams would have to amend the way they play in Europe when VAR is in play? How exactly? It’s still football and whether VAR is in play or not won’t alter tactics of teams, what a nonsense comment
It's not var that's the problem it's the people in control of it. If there was a separate body of var only officials that weren't in any way to do with the on pitch refs i believe it would be better as we know from Mike Dean its a boys club and they always look after their mates even if they've made a poor decision.
Var is a good thing, its the people working it that's the problem. They need an x pro working it. Someone who's actually played the game at a pro level, and knows what's actually happening on the pitch!
As with all systems, the problem is really the human operating them
Nonsense. Bookies need it to change the nature of the game.
Consistency from referees and a former player in the VAR booth might improve the game.
Each clubs fans should vote and the clubs should vote on the results
Technology intact not only to detect for offsides, disallowed goals but ball crossing the line to confirm goal or not and fouls and handballs not seen but final call is referee decision
Have City paid the rest to say yes keep it.
If VAR was used properly then it's great but the VAR Operators are so bad they haven't got a clue what they are doing
Sky, you seem like you're pandering to the PGMOL and the Premier League in their decisions, though they are often incorrect. You don't have the balls to stand up against the inefficient Premier League. The problem with VAR is the people running it. The referees in the Premier League are the worst in the game. VAR works more efficiently in other leagues because the referees running it know how to call an unbiased game. Wolves are absolutely correct on goals. As a fan, when somebody scores, I can't cheer or sulk because I am like will it be a goal or not? It takes away from the game. The game is being reffed twice. This leads to a ridiculous amount of extra time at the end. If we had better people, who knew the game, running it, we wouldn't be having this conversation.
An incompetent worker will always blame their tools.
Video Assistance Technology is a blessing to football, those put in charge of using it, are either incompetent or corrupt or both.
They are the ones to be reviewed and held accountable.
Exactly, they've steadfastly ignored the elephant in the room
Utter crap, I have spoken to 12 clubs support groups and there is a massive movement to get VAR removed out of the game so what is being sprouted here regarding VAR is utter rubbish. These statistics that the premier League peddle is based on what exactly ???
VAR is like a bad marriage, you don't fix it you get rid of it as the Premier League in regards to VAR is The Lies The Damn Lies then The Statistics ... Everything about VAR has damaged the game irreparably, Get rid of it I say !!
i think they should scrap it untill they make strong improvements
Clear & Obvious can't be defined, evaluated or measured so how are they saying they have improved the number of right decisions especially the big ones. VAR should apply rules of game to confirm to ref if the decision was correct or not. Ref can then opt to review, accept if VAR agrees with on-field or overturn decision if VAR disagrees or ignore the VAR information. Refs will still be in control of game but can be judged on their performance 👍
Var is not the problem its the officials
We want Var to get the BIG desitions right, it is not the % but the big desitions in the games that matter, and they have been awfull at that this year !!
Everyone knows Var in concept should make the game fair for all. However the amount of wrong decisions which have no accountability or compensation for clubs makes a mockery of Var.
Var seems to be used by officials to have more control over the outcome of games.
Wolves have had apologies for really poor decisions, the officials say sorry then say they will change things for future games & they do ... Thanks Wolves for helping us make Var better however no compensation will be given.
Compensate clubs for the wrong decisions & Var will definitely get used the way it is supposed to be used !
VAR is not the problem, is the officiàls behind it, if all europeans, asians, south and north america want to learn, they should watch all concluded AFCON in ivory coast... VAR is good, but those referees and VAR officials, are not good enough and sentimental and favouring some teams...
GOOD! I would hate to go back to the hideous weekly errors of the past. 90% is far better than 50%. It can still improve... but KEEP IT!
I wonder how the referees feel when they hear all this.
❤ it’s okay
Var isnt the problem. Its the referees making mistakes on a weekly basis. Var just shown how bad the refs are. It didnt help rewriting the rules so no one knows what a handball or foul is anymore.
What.
Watch var double down in robbing wolves next season now
82% VAR decisions were correct,VAR has done more good than harm and that's what matters
They need to have separate VAR people. The refs shouldnt be in that room. Im in the keep VAR camp
VAR stays,,its ref to get better with using it
Lone wolf vs VAR
The tech will never be the problem, its people that are, too much subjective reviews and no pressure on refs on the pitch plus the whole silence for 6 mins or so goals never being celebrated properly as fear of it being ruled out for a toe nail but is that even the right thing to do? The refs not putting up the flags immediately also gets annoying, i think the refs need to be properly educated in other countries about var and see how its run or bring in foreign refs who do know the system and let them take it, this isnt hard to correct but theyre making a mountain out of a mole hill
KEEP var!!!!
Making refereeing FAR more transparent and FIX the g.d. rules!!!!
Look at the useless disallowed goals, between chelsea and Liverpool, denying many teams.....
Corrupted league stopped watching this league until justice is served
FFS get rid of VAR
That 4% is wolves then var is 100% making it less enjoyable for fans and slows the game down and we have var and pricks still dive
Let's just go by what the top 6 want. ££££ will win either way .
Hold dat Wolves, VAR is NOT the problem. It is the incompetent referees who are the problem.
It not var it refeering level that bad
If the majority of the clubs still want VAR after this season's shambles...just look at how Newcastle was gaslighted against Man Utd (you cannot take that seriously), then clubs please stop complaining when VAR shows it's true colors. You have the option now to do something about it. It's quite simple, it takes only 14 clubs. Shut up or put up!

It was so refreshing and fun watching some Cup games that didn't use VAR. Made me miss being able to celebrate goals... now you have to wait 3 minutes.
English refs are the problem. Not VAR. Train your referees better.
So sky again in bed with the refs/pgmol not going against them in any way shape or form. correct decision are delusional because there is no consistency within the game officials, the new we refs don’t want to go against the older ones when there in VAR but the older ones will quite happily re ref decisions. Where is the consistency there?- The interviews with Howard Webb are a joke because he’s never contradicted or asked hard truth questions.
VAR has spoilt the game - the fans are fed up with it, the only thing it proves is that there is no consistency with the officials.
Statistics can be laid out to say bread is water or 1 = 50000 so they can shove that where the sun doesn’t shine.
The league this year will be won by a team who has had many decisions in the crucial matches go their way.
Get referees eyes checked send them to a optician they are blind
Very easy to say from the stands or from the comfort of an armchair!!
Go back to the old school way but keep goal line technology
why go back to making unfair, sensless offside judgments?.. VAR is here to stay.

VARsenal.
Screw var
Nahhh. Something sound weird. All PL clubs have complained about VAR since we’ve had it come in. So how can most not want to bin VAR!!
This doesn’t sound right. This sounds more like FIFA talking rather than the PL clubs them selfs.
The clubs need to take this up with their fans before Sky deciding what the call should be. Var has been horrific this season and the refs trying to pack up their m8ts mistakes are a disgrace to the sport. No surprise to see Sky talking down Wolves and acting like its not a real thing that really needs to be considered. I support Wolves 100% in their bid and hopefully we will get some good and honest talk about current form of VAR that simply isn't at acceptable level.
Limit the types of call that VAR can overturn. Goal line and offside. That IS it.
Just get rid of it
