THEORY: ..They (5 girls) were kidnapped. and that man (the kidnpper) is really abusive. every day, 5 girls (red velvet) sung and danced in front of him. they're pretty close to each other, basically sisters at this point. and, at the moment, they find a 'right' time to kill that man. wendy is the one killed him. but the sisters thought, it's okay, as long as they're together. but ofc the murder affect them all. they want to leave the house, except JOY (bcs she thinks that's her real safe place). but anw, they're all agree to leave and burn the house down. and when they finally free, after burning the house, the police caught them. then once again, the sisters dont mind as long as they're together. that's why at the end of the mv, all of them are not scared or sad. But happy. Lyrics are truly a work of art... Among the idol songs that have come out recently, they have the best lyrics. “Praise of imperfection” “Don’t think about tomorrow, you still shine ~ You shine endlessly” “Wait for you here with a happy ending” “Light the lighthouse on a long night, “So that you don’t get lost” “The sun is almost setting, I just need your warmth” “I can’t help but smile because of you” Moments that make me cry helplessly ❤👏👏👏
I think they were kidnapped, as you said, the kidnapper may have been watching them dance, but they think about killing him on yeris birthday, they think and kill him, but then they break up but they can't handle the burden of killing someone, they plan to come together again and build that house.
i think the story is: 5 sisters are held captive by their father in their basement. We open with the girls setting up a performance, which seems like quite a common thing for them to arrange. On the 13th of November, which is supposedly Yeri's characters' birthday, they celebrate with a makeshift cake and candles, but need to be quiet. They arent quiet enough so the kidnapper shoots the door, which conveniently leaves it unlocked. This is the perfect chance for Wendy's plan - to kill their father. She tells the girls to keep quiet, as she leaves the basement and murders their abuser with a rock to the head - to then which the girls are distraught, trying to help clean it all up. Processing the murder, each girl plays a different role. Irene instantly becomes alike a mother/oldest sister figure, while Yeri returns to the basement and watches tv to drown it out. Joy takes the murder weapon and tries to leave; Seulgi argues with her and tries to get her to stay. Wendy is shaken and traumatised by what she has done. Now free, they get to go off and live their own lives. The shot of the calendar before the cutscene makes me think they agreed to return on the same day in the future. This could also be why Yeri is wearing a veil in the last scene, bc its her "birthday". Cut to the future, they decide to finish what they had started. With duffle bags filled with belongings, they light the house that once kept them captive on fire and plan to run away together. We can recognise that they are somewhat older now by their appearance. However, they are caught. While they look concerned to begin with, they realise that all they really need is each other, and thats all they've ever really had. They put on the same performance they used to do for their father, the one they practiced together in their basement. With full smiles, they know they're being arrested, but find comfort in the bond they have. These probably aren't specific to the members, but rather a portrayal of different people going through tough times, each of the 5 sisters reacted differently Irene's character became motherly and protective Yeri's character returned to where she was trapped and sort of shut it all out Joy's character became paranoid and was acting harshly Seulgi's character was trying to keep them all together, and cried when she fought with Joy Wendy's character sat in defeat From my understanding of the story, Chill Kill's moral is like '"you're going through this really bad thing, but its chill, i've gotchu, because we've shared these same experiences. You may process it differently, but at the end of the day we have each other". I dont wanna go too deep and say this represents the K-idol life, and how they persist through those struggles as a group - but those are definitely the first vibes i got.
their duffle bags cold also represent the baggage they take with them. because they got those belongings from INSIDE the house bc the shot where irene lays her bag out in front of the cop seems rlly significant it could mean she decided to leave all her baggage behind to be together with her sisters
OMG same ! I even wrote a comment on the MV I was thrown off by the chorus transition... But while returning form the work I gave it a 2nd listen thru the whole album and damn it grew ne me very much, just like some of their title tracks :)
Just from Seulgi’s live, she confirmed that the creepy teaser are the guilt everyone has been feeling because of the incident (k-wording some dude) basically its all in reverse 😮
I love how K-Pop said Halloween is not over yet 😂. Also Red Velvet is always killing each other or other people in their MV's, they just finally got caught in this one 😂.
Red Velvet is always known for their duality concept. Red is their girly, happy, summer vibe (Red Flavor, Queendom, Zimzalabim) while their Velvet is the more mature and darker theme (Peek-A-Boo, Bad Boy, Psycho). But THIS, this one is finally the one where i can see their two concepts merging. This is probably their first Red Velvet song.
That man is father role in this video (seulgi said it officially in live stream) who does domestic violence to 5 daughters (red velvet members). Wendy kill him and all sisters try to conceal their murder, but because of their guilt, (joy was going to self-surrender by taking the rock thing wendy used to kill their dad, but seulgi found her and stop her. That's why two of them were arguing. ) they just burn all the house were they have been lived and Try to run away. But they got arrested. KIDNAP THEORY IS WRONG, SEULGI SAID OFFICIALLY 'HE IS FATHER' IN WEVERSE LIVE TODAY.
Joy's unreal vocal run and high note right before the final chorus will forever be my favourite part of this entire song, the perfect vocal climax, this, Wendy's vocal climax in Hit That Drum before the final chorus and Winters vocal climax before the final chorus of Drama by aespa are my all time 3 favourite bridge moments from K-Pop songs 🔥
Ok, from some said in the comments and from what we saw in the MV, here what I(ME) think what is the story is: 5 sisters are kept captive in the basement by their abusive father who forced the girls to dance and perform for him. One of them (Wendy) was able to get out the basement during their secret Yeri birthday party and kill the father in a accidental way or not, the other sisters discovered what happened and some freak out, and confused, some get sad, some get upset but in the end all seemed happy to be free. A few years later they decided to come back to the family house get some personal precious items and then burn the house. About the cops, i think that somehow they find the recording of the mysterious 5 sisters and started to look for them. When the cops found the girls after the girls burn the house, the sisters was scared and confused so they decided to dance because it was making them happy. That is MY version of the story. Like a lot peoples said that song is very Red velvety as it got that Red Velvet signature sound.
I love chill kill so much. So cool. It’s brilliant & ingenious to the song writers & producers. RV carried it to another level. As i listen to it more & more, it grew on me- it’s a dope yes…. Crazy & insanely a banger👌🏻
the trailer is basically the girls being haunted by their trauma after the incident, and then they come together to burn down the start of their trauma and be free
I love this song so much! The bridge always makes me tears up. I got it from the first listen haha maybe cuz I already got spoiled the chorus from their countdown live so I expected the change in the chorus haha but the twists on the other parts did surprised in a great way
your reaction was great! Actually the story is basically your theory (but as far as I'm aware) when we see the 13th , they are leaving the house and starting to live their own lives and years later they meet again to get rid of all the bad memories for once by taking things from the house and burning it down.
I really like your theory and interpretation of the story told in the mv. It's always interesting to see other people's point of view and what details I might have missed or haven't paid attention to, and especially in your reactions I really like the way you elaborate and theorize. And just like you said, I liked each of the parts separately but it took time to process it on the first listen because the bright vibe the chorus brought really took me by surprise. But after a couple of listens it totally makes sense. Such a great release from our beloved skillful girls
Same...the chorus threw me off...so bright when everything else was dark. Other than that the vocals are glorious, as always. Can't wait for you to hear the b-sides.
Im starting to thing red velvet is jumping dimensions. In each dimension theyre faced with different challenges. Idk how to fully explain this yet. I need time
My theory is a evil version of Umbrella academy. This papa here raise Red velvet to use them invade people's dream, maybe killing them. One day, Wendy killed Papa accidentally, and they struggled to free themself from the influence of him. But when they finially got out, the cops came. I think it's an open ending, because Red velvet made a circle. They might use their power to escape, for example, let the cops all fall asleep. Or Red velvet just felt relieve that they finally got caught, because they didn't want to invade people's dream. It's kind of inner growth. If you had done something bad in your childhood or private, you're trapped by it as well. When you put yourself together to deal with it, first, you might try to erase it. But it's not the right way. Face the consequence that you've done is the true relieve. It's just a theory. 😊
The kill this guy (maybe a captor of somekind) and then in verse are having guilt/ are being haunted. and then they return and burn the house down after grabbing their stuff. and while they get caught they dance and are happy to be free of him and together, hence the dancing before arrest, iconic btw lol
My reaction to the song itself is same as yours :) .... It just needs a couple of listens to process and understand what's the direction the producer must've taken with this, especially the transition from pre-chorus to Chorus !
Hiyie... i know this isnt red velvet related but... I was wondering... Are you going to react to Golden Childs comeback... Feel me😢... I was waiting for your reaction to it♡.... I hope u check thrm out... Feel me is a really masterpiece comeback....
@@squarekirby5437 Yes, I'm also satisfied, even more so because the album is a work of art, one b-side better than the other. I just wish they would release an impactful single to maybe win an award or two. Not that they need it, but I'd still like to see it

I think rather than kidnapper, the man is their father, based on the family portrait.
I think they were kidnapped, as you said, the kidnapper may have been watching them dance, but they think about killing him on yeris birthday, they think and kill him, but then they break up but they can't handle the burden of killing someone, they plan to come together again and build that house.
that's my comment an another video but yess some people on twitter said that man is their father😮 what a plottwist!
@@jaehyunjjhyunoh maybe they got kidnapped when they were kids and the guy made them think and call him dad. I am really into this kind of theory
Some said that the trailer is the time between MV, they're free but still stuck with that memory. So they cameback to shut all the bad memories down

Perfectly put in words, mate. I'm gonna steal that last sentence and use it from now on :)
I find the "can not compute" songs end up being some of my favorites. Almost like their better than what my brain can handle lol
