Kenny Garrett is among the most popular and influential alto saxophonists of his generation. ‘A tornado of sound that swirls with passion’ (Downbeat).
Saxophonist Kenny Garrett experienced a major breakthrough right after he played the BIMHUIS the first time, in 1986 with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. With his powerful playing on alto and soprano he made waves in Miles Davis’ band and he achieved great success as a solo artist. His rare performances at the BIMHUIS are referred to as ‘legendary’ (de Volkskrant); ‘Kenny Garrett turns the BIMHUIS on its head’, said Jazzenzo about his previous gig here.
On his most recent album Do Your Dance all kinds of dance music are incorporated, from funk and hip-hop to grooves and beats from Africa and Brazil. In live performances, Kenny Garrett’s regular quintet is known to make people dance as well. Part of the group is seasoned percussionist Rudy Bird, who has also performed with Miles Davis.
‘A soloist of volcanic intensity’ (New York Times on Kenny Garrett).
‘His brawny tone is one of the most immediately identifiable and pleasurable sounds in jazz’ (Downbeat).
‘He’s the most interesting alto player around, my favorite’ (David Sanborn).

Слушать такую музыку нужно вживую. Был на концерте музыкантов в джаз-клубе Игоря Бутмана на Таганке ( декабрь 2020 года, Москва) - это магия, магия звука.
