Subway Surfers is a 2012 endless runner mobile game co-developed by Kiloo and SYBO Games, based in Denmark. Available on iOS, Android, HarmonyOS, Amazon Fire Tablet, and Windows Phone, the game uses the Unity engine. Players control Jake, a young graffiti artist, who, after being caught tagging a metro railway site, runs through railroad tracks to escape the inspector and his dog. During the run, players collect gold coins, power-ups, and other items while dodging trains and obstacles. They can jump on top of trains and surf with hoverboards to escape capture, until the character crashes into an obstacle, gets caught, or hits a train, ending the game. Special events like the Season Hunt, Super Runners Challenge, Rivals Challenge, and birthday events offer in-game rewards and characters. Players can also purchase outfits and characters with points and keys.
Subway Surfers is an endless runner where the game begins with Jake (or another character) spraying graffiti on a subway. Caught in the act by the inspector and his dog, they run to evade capture. Players swipe up, down, left, or right to avoid obstacles like trains, poles, and tunnel walls. Speeding up earns more points, and players can revive using keys or watching ads. The game features various items like coins, keys, multipliers, super sneakers, jetpacks, magnets, mystery boxes, and pogo sticks. A pogo stick launches the character into the air, a jetpack allows flying, a coin magnet attracts coins, super sneakers provide higher jumps, and a x2 multiplier doubles the score rate. Hoverboards, used by double-tapping the screen, help avoid collisions for about 30 seconds.
Daily Challenges and Season Hunts reward players for completing specific actions in gameplay. In daily challenges, players collect letters to form words like "score" and "jump." Missions measure player accuracy, and up to 18 characters can be unlocked with coins, keys, in-game purchases, or by connecting to Facebook. Most characters have up to 2 outfits. Additionally, 17 hoverboards can be unlocked with the same methods, each offering different abilities. When the game updates to a new location, a new character and hoverboard become temporarily available until the next update.
