The main theme of this overture is the Hymn composed by Martin Lutero for the reformation of the catholic Church. Actually the Bach's Cantata BWV 80 is based on it (and have the same name as Raff's music) , also it can be found in the opera Les Hugenotes by Mayerbeer, in Mendelsohn's fifth Symphony, even in Stravinsky's Histoire du Soldat (at the end of the work) and probably in many others... Raff's overture is in fact a fantasy on the reformation Hymn... in many aspects reflects some Mendelsohn's influence...
Well, that was an interesting music experience. I can't remember hearing an orchestration of Martin Luther's "A Might Fortress is Our God" before. I enjoyed the intensity.
...excelente obra!!!...desde que lo descubrí
se ha hecho uno de mis compositores favoritos...
My vote for the best classical work based on "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God". The recap at 16:09 is Raff at his best.

Listen to the great prélude of Meyerbeer’s Les huguenots ,-) I’m sure you will enjoy the intensity!
He was no Riff Raff.
Neat, man!
he has more of a raffaffa I would say..
En la 5ta sinfonía Mendelsohn trabaja este himno mejor al final.
