    I drove that part of the hwy in Aug this year. First time in 30 years, I live in Ottawa. The other end of the country. It is so beautiful out there, I did follow a tractor and his/hers rear trailer wheels were on some of the cement curbs. It's wild. Can't wait to do it again..

    I remember being a little kid in the middle of a whiteout with my family in the mountains and we managed to get to our destination by following you trucker dudes. I know my dad was white knuckling the steering wheel.
    Ended up with 5ft of snow in the morning.

    Love it. Never thought it was a bad ride, made that run several times with no issues. The road is not that dangerous it’s the bad drivers that make it dangerous

    • @JuanRempel

      Tim Ashley Very true, it’s the highway most drivers take, including all the inexperienced flat landers. I love my flat lander friends, but we all have bad apples and with the combination of inexperience it gets dangerous.

    • @FAngus-ly8lk
      @FAngus-ly8lk 2 роки тому +1

      I disagree. This can be a VERY dangerous road, especially in winter. Even outside of winter, storms can dump snow and ice in large quantities on the Coquihalla. If you hit black ice, even at moderate speed, you're f**ked.

    • @JuanRempel
      @JuanRempel  2 роки тому +1

      True it can get bad, but not nearly as bad as the Connecter or the Salmo Creston.

    Brought back a lot of memories of the Coq. and the Connector. Use to drive Greyhound Coach and Freight Semi. Coach was a dream in almost any condition but bobtailing a tractor was the worst. Thanks for the ride.

    My dad (Jeff’s grandfather ) worked in the Coquihalla for the CPR in the 30s and 40s as a section hand, a fireman, and an engine man. His stories were captivating. When they first announced the highway, he was dubious... “they’ll never be able to keep it open.” They bypassed some of the worst stuff by going up through the pass. For the KVR, the whole of the Coq was a smasher. Oh, dad always pronounced Portia as “PORshuh”. Many Coquihalla names reflect Andrew McCulloch’s enjoyment of Shakespeare. Thanks for this video. Loved being able to be a passenger at 30 kph rather than a driver at 130 - ish..

    I remember the 1st time I drove the Coqu, in Aug 1986, going to Expo 86. The Toll/Troll Booths were at the Summit. I remember paying and then it seemed like Straight Down until Hope. I remember seeing many Car/Trucks and Semis stilling on the side, Smoke Billowing off their Brakes. My Ears Plugged Up on that Stretch, and I couldn't hear well for about a Week, and 2 trips to the Doctors
    Where I live, that 3rd Lane for Slow Vehicles would, have been converted to a god damn Bike Lane

    3:13 - "Sowaqua" It's pronounced SUH WALK WAH - Accent on the middle syllable.
    My dad managed the logging company that logged up Sowaqua, Dewdney, Peers, Cedar, and probably a few other creeks in the 60's. There was limited public access at that time as the logging road and pipeline road were gated. Spent many interesting hours riding around with him during the summer holidays. The road up Sowaqua creek was really F'ing steep. I remember once an off-highway Mack logging truck lost it coming down that road. It was in an area that hadn't been logged yet, so there were lots of trees on the low side of the road. The tractor ended up about half way out into thin air, wedged between a couple of trees. The water tank kept the load from coming through the cab, and the only injury was to the driver's Stanfields.

    Nice smooth ride w/a conscientious *professional driver.* Thanks driver. Too bad the 4 wheelers can't turn their *HEADLIGHTS ON. But then that would require a modicum of intelligence wouldn't it now?* We'll see ya heading down... the udder side. Sum Dairy humor 4 ye.

      I don't remember what I was loaded at, but we always load as close to RGVW as we can. We run Super B's so that is 63,500 kg (140 lb.) Most of our loads are within 1,000kg of that limit.

    Most of that lumber is being shipped to China, it used to be that most of our export lumber was destined for down south where then that lumber would be sold back to Canadian retailers for Double the price.

    • @JuanRempel
      @JuanRempel  4 роки тому

      Almost all the lumber I bring to the coast goes to Japan. But we deliver more to locations in Canada and the USA. Having said that, other carriers and mills may be very different.
