１９６５年ころから、郷土の伝統工芸を後世に残したいと８ｍｍ映画の製作活動に。最初に取り上げたのが、美馬市の和傘である。なおナレイシオンは佐藤氏夫人が担当されているとのこと。

美馬和傘
「昭和30年頃、旧徳島県美馬郡美馬町には200軒あまりの和傘店が並んでいましたが、現在はただ２軒だけで昔ながらの手法で和傘が作られています。
「昔から、和傘づくりは骨の数ほど手間がかかると言われていますけど、そうですね１本を作りあげるのに１か月くらい。月に120～130本しか作れません。まず、傘の骨になる竹を組み立てます。
和紙を染め、油を引き、途中天日で乾燥させながら飾りつけや漆かけを行い、柄や傘の頭紙の仕上げをしていきます。出来上がりは１本ずつちがいますよ。染めも注文にあわせていろいろな模様を作ります」とは、伝統工芸師の資格をもつ中岡さん。この道65年の大ベテランです。長年の経験と勘が見事な傘をつくりだします。それでも、自分で上出来だと思えるものは３年に１本くらいしかできないといいます。まさに職人芸の粋。静かなブームの今、京阪神のデパートでは引っ張りだこになっている。

I have a wagasa that was damaged when I bought it in a Japan Surplus here in our country, but it is still beautiful and look a lot like what this film showed, I'm a Filipino but I love how the Japanese preserve their Culture and Art, just look at how these wagasa are made, so many hours of labor and the detail is fantastic! Thank you for sharing this film.

In the Edo Period, the samurais who became unemployed (ronin)made their living often by making umbrellas.I have an old japanese umbrella(wagasa) which my mother used long ago. It's fine still.
