Great recap love them doing the series I’ll be pissed if they don’t follow tru. I love Isaac’s vision and truly have been waiting for his books to become visual it’s been 40 years and I’m rereading them. Saw season 2 too short and after the strikes fingers crossed for season 3. I tell everyone watch!!!!!
The last thing I ever expected from Foundation was the Imperial Dynasty story line being so good. NGL that’s a big reason I’m excited about Season 2, although I’ve been an Asimov fan since the 70s.
If you don't have 10 hours to rewatch Season 1 this should be the best way to go through the whole story. Looking forward to covering Season 2. You’re the man, Pete! Saw the S2 trailer drop earlier & came back online to watch your S1 Finale recap. Psyched to be back on this journey again in a few weeks!
This is well done. The world they build feels successfully endless which must be a huge challenge. To me each episode feels like a movie. I hope they give it the full run because I'm getting really sick of all the shows that start but never finish. If film companies want us to invest hours of free time to their vision, they need to follow through or they will lose their audience all together.
I'm glad you did this 1-hour long comprehensive recap because every other, even the ones that are over 10min long, were still leving a bunch of plot holes in my memory. Thanks to your video, now I remember everything important! There are indeed too many stories being cramped into the 1-hour episodes, but seeing this awesome recap reminded me how much I enjoyed it all. Let's hope for an even better season 2!
Okay, maybe I will finish the las 3episodes. I got bored there around the middle episodes and gave up but your breakdown gives me hope. Might even continue on to Season 2. Thanks mate 🤙🏽
I very much appreciate this recap - currently reading and re-reading all the Foundation and adjacent books and it's quite the task. The focus of this recap is utterly helpful - so, my thanks!🚀
I am actually reading the Foundation books (after having watched the TV series) and I’m having a hard time filling the gaps between the books and the TV shows. How close is the TV shows to the books? (I haven’t read The empire series)
Seriously apple should send you a portion of marketing budget for season 2.i enjoyed alot of season 1 but just felt like I was missing so much. This review has doubled my understanding of season 1 and my excitement for season 2. Ty so much, excellent content.
I just finished season 1 and I think the that robot woman is responsible for the suicide attack. I also believe she helped change the dna of the clones. She was quick to kill that kid and the angry face rip off seemed to indicate she wasn't happy. Can't wait till this Friday for season 2.
I can see that. She was trying to force them to change by showing their mistreatment wasn’t working. Changing them genetically was another sign that they need to change.
Yes it's Finally Time!! Now I can get the FROM" show out my brain for a while. It feels like it's been years since S1 and S2 is finally here I am Geeked up to have something to watch in the Summer.
The series would probably been better if HBO had bought the rights but I still support that they did this attempt to adapt foundation it’s a difficult task. It’s as complex task as LOTR or GOT. S2 seems better than S1 though. I did not expect a S2 at all.
More of a review than a recap, but thanks anyway…just as I suspected. Went back to the older videos and see you did a episode by episode review. You just basically put them all together. Clever (as far as the YT algorithm goes), but ineffective for me personally because this only just scraped the surface of refreshing my memory. Need to remember it all. Guess I’ll be going back and watching season 1 🤷🏽♀️ glad I caught this by episode 2. Can’t imagine sitting thru almost 2 hours of just a show review 😅
Kind of sucked the first few episodes, but Im really glad I stuck with it. It starts picking up in ep4 and the rest of the season is great imo. great video btw, best S1 synopsis on YT by far
As someone who first read Foundation around 12 yrs old (my god, 45 yrs ago! how is it possible?) I enjoy the re-write of characters and attention to different details than I had as it enriches the world of Foundation if it is done well, which this was. I'm the type that likes surprises and novelty and hearing others' take on it. We'd spend so many hours, whole summer days as kids, arguing "what if?" about our favorite books and characters. LOTR, Dune, and Foundation at the top of that list; Star Trek, Star Wars, and Alien, too. That's why I loved the character of Adar in _Rings of Power_ , Star Trek Discovery's version of Klingons and much more, blowing up Vulcan in the "Kelvin timeline", and the changes made here in Foundation but still carry the overall story. What the wonderful writers on all these shows gift me is being able to experience these beloved worlds with freshness and not take things for granted (or they'll blow up Vulcan!). I can't say enough how wonderful that is to me. Downside is when they give in to "fan service" and nostalgia which was so terrible in Picard Season 3 that I'll never rewatch an episode of TNG ever again. Those people who want the same old same old could never have been fans in the first place when these shows were breaking new ground, it would have been too new and weird for them. 50 years of familiarity with it later they claim to be true fans who know how things are supposed to be - about shows that were made to defy our expectations!
wow....what amazing way to express how it feels to be sci/fi fantasy fan as openminded kid and then disappointed with friend or fandom who feel nothing can change or so steped in facts they forget the spirit of the thing . Glad to see everyone is not immediately panic when something from page to screen is different or imperefect
Spectacular! You have an undeniable gift. I’m about to start season 2 because I wanted episodes to accumulate. I very much needed this and didn’t expect it to be this good. Thank you! Have you done Dune?
Thanks Pete! Did not catch your in-depths during the S1 run so really pleased I can watch them now in prep for Season 2! I thought Season 1 was better than it really had any business of being. Production values were insane. Performances were overall good, but especially I thought especially Jared Harris, Leah Harvey and Lee Pace were outstanding. I didn’t find the final “twist” of S1 that surprising, but maybe that’s on me and not the show. Really enjoyed it over all, less than Expanse and BSG, but more than most other Outer Space Sci-Fi.
There's no difference between the two in the Asimov universes. To human beings in the Asimov-verse, robots are robots, regardless of how they look. Isaac Asimov wrote most of his Robot and Empire sagas long before the term "Android" became popularized in pop-culture and media and even sci-fi.
Always LOVE your videos. People need to know that Foundation is a strange story that does not follow the forms of narrative audiences are used to until you get to books 2 and 3. Do you think they will go to book 2 and 3 content now that the introductory stuff is out of the way?
So is the Internet the Encyclopedia Galactica in it's first form? Information about our current known world is a sailable there. But, as is the case with our earlier society, there is far more that we DON'T know about in the universe. I would love to see what we have yet to know. I read this 35 years ago and loved it. This is so far a great adaptation.
you keep saying, "we'll have to see where they are going with this" (the writers) and I really appreciate that. Obviously they aren't idiots and to constantly harp on book changes that others do is a waste of time. Adaptation to screen is an art. The particular format (tv, movie, how many, etc) is more art. And like you pointed out from the first moment of the show, the makers of it do care about the story. They don't overdo relationship stuff or other popular methods of gaining viewership at the cost of the story. The changes they make serve a purpose in the hands of gifted artists. Lol, for some reason the band Heart covering Led Zeppelin at the Kennedy Center comes to mind: that they had the audacity to take on such a 'fundamental' work and then pulled it off like that...damn. Taking on _Foundation_ is even more ambitious and, because so far so good, I can't wait to see where they are going with this.
Thank you for doing a recap- simply couldn’t get through season one after the first few time jumps but I wanted to know what happens. Do you think it makes it easier to watch having read the books?
I completely disagree. I think it is a beautiful mess. There are some changes that they make that are absolutely remarkable, but en masse this was a mess.

Are you familiar with the “Eternal Emperor” series by Chris Bunch and Allan Cole (better known as the “Sten Chronicles” [no connection])? While that Emperor works differently, it includes the concept of a series of cloned emperors, a constant record of the current clone’s memories fed into the next clone, and (at the end) a divergence from the initial pattern.
25:23 This is why vids like this are so good. I need someone to help me put timelines into perspective....and even follow them sometimes! 🤨 WHY oh _why,_ do some writers/directors _insist_ on doing this complicated story-telling?!!! (It's worse in big sci-fi stories because from planet to planet, it's visually unclear if it's past, present or future, because each world could be simply different development or culture, rather than different time!).... If you must have flash-back or forward, ffs, please do it in a logical or consistent manner, or do something that lets us understand it easier! _BTW: I do not mean, the cheap, awful, awful 'exposition' we see in a lot of American shows! (Where characters say completely unnatural things, just so the audience can understand something.....)_
Fun Fact: On the SciFi tv series Babylon 5, the space station's doctor's religion is "Foundationalism" which I'm pretty sure is taken from the Issac Asimov novels.
One of the best breakdowns I have ever seen for a full season. Just awesome work.
Appreciate that
Jared Harris just keeps getting himself cast in absolute bangers.
Fringe, Mad Men, The Expanse, Foundation, The Crown.
He is such an awesome actor.
This is the best channel on UA-cam...there I said it.
lee pace owns this show every second he is on screen...
I LOVE FOUNDATION. THX FOR BEING ONE OF THE FEW TO COVER THIS SPECTACULAR SHOW
No problem!
Petes not the hero we asked for.. he's the hero we needed
haha
Read the 'Foundation' when I was a kid and don't have Apple TV, so thank you.
This is the best breakdown I’ve ever heard. I come to this after each episode to make sure I’m understanding everything.

I love Isaac’s vision and truly have been waiting for his books to become visual it’s been 40 years and I’m rereading them. Saw season 2 too short and after the strikes fingers crossed for season 3. The Cleonic dynasty was the best part of the series and a dope concept
The last thing I ever expected from Foundation was the Imperial Dynasty story line being so good. NGL that’s a big reason I’m excited about Season 2, although I’ve been an Asimov fan since the 70s.

As season 2 approaches, this is a great way to refresh your memory
It’s better then. Rewatching the whole thing 🙌🙌
Perfect, thanks Pete.
Can you talk about how the necklace the Prime wears looks like the Oculus Dome of the Pantheon in Rome.
