(1) I bought a white gouache for DIY pastel watercolors. I made one pastel blue and then gave up. I don’t paint with pastel colors. (2) I bought a Finetec palette for the same reason you did and like you they don’t fit into my paintings! (3) I had Arches paper on my wish list, and I was going to buy a block when I had finished my current supply of blocks of watercolor paper. Then one day the largest online retailer in the world had the 9 x 12 inch cold pressed block on sale for $30. I couldn’t let it go. I bought it. I haven’t used it yet because I’m making my way through the other blocks I have. I do enjoy the reviews of your art hauls. Thank you.
I use my finetecs when im just experimenting with different patterns and mark making woth watercolor. Theyre not usually a part of my finished paintings but i like playing with them.
Love this video - Your art hauls have really helped me with starting a sketchbook last year. I have learned so much from you. My favourite items are the Seawhites journals and the carry case which I use all the time. Mine is purple, of course. 😁 🙏
I’d say you knew what you would use when placing that order! It always feels good to know you splurged on the right items. I bought a few metallic paints early on in my painting days and they don’t suit the type of painting I do. I like the thought of them and find them pretty when other people use them, but they’re just not for me. I honestly have no idea what I thought I’d do with them when I ordered them 😅.
I am headingn to the UK today, and also too scared to use the Etchr sketchbook. So glad I saw yours today, as I am taking it with me!! Another enjoyable video Helen Thank you
It's nice to see the comparison on how much you've used the different products you purchased over the past year. Some had more useage than others, some you hoped to use in future. I know that feeling. Keep up the wonderful work!
Stunning sketchbook landscapes. A bit of a shame they are just buried in a sketchbook, actually. Feels like they deserve to be displayed, as a postcard or framed on a wall or a shelf.
I knowww the feeling of loving an art supply that you don't reach for as much as you would like 😩 my poor neocolos 2 haven't seen the light of day in almost a year just because I'm into other mediums at the moment 💔
ooh that ultimo travel brush looks so lovely, may have to put it on my list next 💦 I got an escoda versatil travel brush to use as an 'everything' brush outside, but I am missing a large soft brush for nice big swathes of colour. Thanks for these videos, it's nice to see how you've used the materials and your honest thoughts!
I love my #6 silver black velvet travel brush. I have a very compact plein air kit with a 3.5 x 5.5 little sketchbook, and the #6 is ll I need for that set up. Really enkoy hearing what really worked from a haul.
I like these ‘what did I use’ vlogs. That set of aqua elite brushes are my favorite brushes. I’ve supplemented them with a few more sizes from that line. The watercolor pens look interesting and have add them to my wish list! Thanks for sharing your experiences.
I always find it so helpful that you review your purchased supplies after a decent period of time has passed. I have some escoda brushes in my wishlist and look forward to someday getting some. They look like really nice brushes. I love the silver black velvet brush I have (#12).thanks for the video.
I recently bought one of those type of cases at 3:40 for traveling with my watercolor pencils. One of the back two removeable sections and half of the other, have double width slots for markers so I plan to add eight Winsor and Newton Promarkers in there (once I buy them lol) for urban sketching. I like Albert Kiefer's style of urban sketches with markers and he named five basic colors to get started. I added three extra greens onto his list to make eight, since I live in a small very green town not a city. I suppose it's handy that you can pull out the two extra sections but I think I would have preferred to have them stitched in with a slightly deeper case to still allow for sketchbooks or watercolor palettes etc.
Maybe with your Finetec you could just “flick” it over the top of your paintings, they leave great splotch sparkles 🫶… the gold for everything definitely… and the green might look good on your landscapes
What a good idea to show the materials a year on 😊 I’ve been going through lots of old art materials and finding out what I like and use long term and what I just won’t use. Now need to find some arty young people who maybe a bit afford much stuff to give the things I don’t use to
Hi thanks for the review..i really enjoyed it. Can u tell me what paint you used to demonstrate the Escoda Perla travel brush please. I love that shade!
What is the point of your swatch chart 12:30 with no colour or pigment info? Your homework, is to write the colour name in waterproof marker for each paint, and then swatch over the top with the paint. :) Thank you for the video. So much nice stuff.
It's just a reminder to me what the colours look like painted, as opposed to how they appear in the pans - that'll be enough for me to be able to use them - it's way too tiny for writing anything on anyway! Sorry!
I like these 'how did they work out' reviews!
Thanks!
This is fascinating, I love these retrospective reviews ☺☺
Thank you!

Haha! I bet we're not the only ones too!
Love these videos! So useful to see how the supplies have been used, and your sketchbook paintings are lovely Helen. Thanks for sharing 😊
Thanks ever so much!
I really need to use all the beautiful things I have!
I hope this was encouraging!
Loved this video! So interesting to watch what you think about the supplies after using them for a while. 😊
Thanks!
I use my finetecs when im just experimenting with different patterns and mark making woth watercolor. Theyre not usually a part of my finished paintings but i like playing with them.
Thanks! I definitely need a play session!
I absolutely love these old haul what u used videos!!!! Please make one for every art haul! Please!!!!😂❤
Haha, thanks!

This is really nice to hear - thank you!
I like the look of those travel brushes, the big one especially.
Funny how you can never exactly predict what you will use most
Yep! I think the Escoda Ultimo are similar to the Princeton Neptunes, but don't come to as much of a point.
I’d say you knew what you would use when placing that order! It always feels good to know you splurged on the right items.

I try and make educated purchases!
Haha - yes, exactly so on the metallics!

Ooo - safe travels! I hope you have a great time and do LOTS in it!!

Thanks! That's very kind of you!
I knowww the feeling of loving an art supply that you don't reach for as much as you would like 😩 my poor neocolos 2 haven't seen the light of day in almost a year just because I'm into other mediums at the moment 💔
I think it's OK - it's just knowing when we're never going to use something again, and clearing out.
Fabulous! Use those mica paints for accents on your cards you sell
Thanks!

If you can get hold of a Princeton Neptune or Silver Black Velvet travel brush for less money though, those are good equivalents.
I love my #6 silver black velvet travel brush. I have a very compact plein air kit with a 3.5 x 5.5 little sketchbook, and the #6 is ll I need for that set up. Really enkoy hearing what really worked from a haul.
Yes, I can imagine - it's a great brush!

I'd say they are quite similar to Black Velvets and Princeton Neptunes, but don't come to as fine a point as those two can.

I've not heard of Albert Kiefer - sounds interesting, need to go and look!

I'm definitely going to have to have an experiment session with them. Thanks for the suggestion!

Can we see your doggie painting...black and white dog...looks fabulous!
Thank you! I did a video on it here:

I think it was Mijello Mission Gold's Cobalt Green Deep.
You did a big clear out of art materials? What did you do with them? This video was fun, thanks Helen
Yep - sold some on eBay, gave some away.
***looks at her supplies she bought 3 years ago… still looking sparkling new on the shelf***
***hangs head in shame***
I’m a buyer, not a user 😂
This is very relatable for many! I'm definitely a buyer, but gradually getting more into the using!
