  • Continuing with my nit picking through the hours of video I took from Yellowstone National Park this Summer, here are some of the Yellowstone Mud Pots to go "eeeew" to.
    A mudpot or paint pot is kind

    I love Yellowstone, so many things to see and things to do, also the wildlife, but the paint pots and boiling mud pits always blow my mind

    Thank you! I've got to agree, I was mesmerised being amongst the gentle gurgling and gloop-glooping of the mudpots.
    Glad you enjoyed it!

    Modern man knows all these features are due to Yellowstone being a volcano, but, could you imagine how the first person to discover it felt when they first stumbled upon it?

      They would've thought they found hell on earth.... watching one of their survey crew members fall into a boiling pot of clay and be dissolved
      ... U SLIP AND U R GONE...
      When it says "Stay on the path," you STAY ON THE DAMM PATH
      ..Then, think about all the people that were melted while establishing said path we walk on today.

    • @TheBrownWelsh
      @TheBrownWelsh  5 років тому

      I believe the geothermal nature of the area (hot earth, basically) causes a small amount of hot water to turn nearby dirt and volcanic ash into this "mud". The bubbling is from the hot water rising to the surface. So yes, they are quite hot - and also emit sulfuric acid I think. It's the same reason you get geysers, but this is what happens when there is very little water instead.

    The mudpots probably contain clay in there as heat breaks soil down and stuff. This 'mud' being smooth is an indicator of being clay as clay is the smoothest mineral in soil.

    I want to Yellowstone when I was about 10 years old what are remember the same day we visited the mud puddles but you cannot go into yes cuz they're too hot but somewhere near there was a hot spring that mixed with a cold river that you could actually swim into it was a very warm like a hot tub but it was amazing it had a small waterfall you can go underneath those kind of like a steam room that was my favorite part of the trip

      wadoman699 okay, did some digging; definitely not the Artist Paint Pots and fairly certain it wasn't the Mud Volcano, so I'm going to assume it was the Fountain Paint Pots. There's a wooden walkway and looking at pictures, this seems more likely. Sorry I can't be more specific; it was a long time ago and UA-cam cut off my description I had up it seems.
