I’m relatively new to PitBoss pellet grilling and your videos are a great help! Can you re-send the link to the flat grill grates you used. The link you included is for the grates with the raised rails. thanks!
Thanks for watching! They are actually flat on one side and have raised grates on the other so you can use them either way whether you want sear marks or full contact. Hope that helps! amzn.to/3WA0zEz
Would you say a pellet grill can grill a burger as quickly as a propane grill? Obviously time to heat up takes a little longer, how long did it take before being able to put the patty to grill after heating up?
No it cannot. Propane is always going to be faster and stronger when your goal is direct heat for grilling only. This model has a direct heat option that lets you open the flame broiler for direct access to the flames of the fire pot. Many pellet grills do not have this feature so make sure to check if that is something that is important for you to have on your pellet grill. Thanks for watching!
Valid point, however not everyone has multiple grills, AND if I've already been smoking something on my Pit Boss, say some veggies or potatoes or another kind of meat to go with my burgers, I don't really want to fire up a second grill. I'd rather just switch over to high heat, throw my grill grates or a cast iron pan on and make the burgers on the Pit Boss too. Thanks for watching!
@@madbackyard no sir! Hamburger OK but PB a little over the top! Either way, totally love your in depth vids of the way you details of so much of the process!!
Haha. Well thank you very much and thanks for watching. I have a hard enough time getting my words right even when I don’t have a camera in my face. 😂 Sometimes I go back and edit and am like “I said what?” 🤦♂️. Haha
I find that my pit boss loses too much temp if the cover is open. For example, if i get it up tp 450, and i leave the cover open to sear, the temp drops to 350 in a few minutes. How do i retain temperature with the cover open? Great channel by the way. I'm making my way through all of your uploads. Please keep producing more content, thanks!
Great question! Since we are using DIRECT heat to cook the burgers, I’m not really concerned what the internal air temperature of the pit boss is. In fact, when I made these I don’t think my controller ever said much higher than about 275 because I had the lid open so often as well. That’s why when grilling/searing etc with direct heat you really should use an infrared thermometer to track when the griddle surface is hot enough if using a flat surface like I recommend. If you leave the setting on high, much like a hot burner on the stove the griddle will stay hot even with the lid open. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
You absolute could if you wanted to…I would start the pit boss as low as possible on just the smoke setting, or even better, keep it turned off and just use a smoke tube. Smoke them for an hour or so to get some smoke flavor before searing like in the video. I would still sear or else you’re going to end up with basically gray baked hamburgers which won’t be as appetizing IMO. Another option is to smoke a few cups of beef tallow ahead of time. Keep some smoked tallow on hand to quickly add extra smoke flavor to whatever you are searing with it. Thanks for watching!! 👍
Awesome channel. I just turned on my new pit boss for the first time today & tried grilling some burgers. Wish I would have seen your video first. I tried 400F per the owner’s manual; they cooked OK but didn’t get browned on the outside. Will be checking out your channel first for advice in the future👍🏻
A burger press is the answer, put your meat in and press a perfect patty. Season and grill. Perfect every time. The pit boss will do the rest with the flame plate open.
Mate, love this stuff - keep up the simple yet fantastic work. My Pitboss Pro Series 850 is coming soon! Appreciate all the work you are doing. Cheers here from Oz. Dann

🔥Here are the flat "Grill Grates" I use to sear my burgers and steaks ➡ amzn.to/3JEndVj
Its currently unavailable 😢
Did you just put the grill grates upside down? The link you sent shows ridge's.
New Pit Boss owner (former charcoal only enthusiast) and your page has been my go to. Keep up the good work.

Love your style of videos! Your attention to detail is greatly appreciated and very helpful!
Thank you so much! I appreciate that!
Need more seasonings than that
👍
Why bother cooking on the PB if you don’t want the smoke? Might as well use a gas grill.

You didn't want to smoke it?

Short answer… NO.
For burgers, you want high heat. Unless you want smoky burgers but they take much longer.
I want some smoke on ribs, pulled pork, brisket, chicken etc, but not on my burgers - 😂

Yes, they do make forming the patties faster, especially if you have a large crowd to feed!!
Dang dude you're not messing around!! Yea I'm not crazy about the pit boss grates, that flat surface is a great idea!
Thanks for watching!
Wow glad I just discovered your channel. Hope you keep up the great work. . Thinking about buying a pit boss.

Fantastic instructions! Thanks for all the great pro tips
lolz, smh
Add something about stuffed burgers with cheese ect. Great advice, good vid!
Great idea!
When you are heating the PB to high, do you leave the flame grate closed and the lid closed ?
I just leave both open. It still works fine to get the grill grates or cast iron nice and hot.
Your the only person ive seen actually using the direct flame feature. Most people are smoking the burgers for about an hour at 225.
You can do this to start but I like my burgers finished with high heat otherwise they just have too much of a meatloaf/meatball texture to me.
Nothing like making a burger on a flat top so they can cook in some of their juices - smoking burgers for an hour - lol - No Thanks!
