  • Who says British history only gets interesting after the Romans invaded our shores? Well, lots of people actually. Britain before the Romans was a slow starter, and even though a handful of truly amazing megaliths and monuments exists across the British Isles, there's a distinct absence in the part we now call northern England.
But how good do they get? I'm travelling round Greater Manchester looking at a selection of different monuments from the Iron Age, Bronze Age and even the Neolithic (late Stone Age).
Surely, somewhere so packed full of history like Manchester, will have some ancient sites to shout about. Doesn't it?
    0:00 Intro
1:45 Cheetham Close Stone Circle, Bolton
    7:12 Wind Hill Barrow, Bury
    9:45 Castlesteads Hill Fort, Bury
    13:55 Jacksons Barrow, Saddleworth
    16:33 Mellor Hill Settlement, Stockport
    21:18 Oversley Farm Settlement, Styal
Note, with hindsight, the Jackson's Barrow find might not be the actual barrow. I may have been distracted by the remains of a WW2 look out post nearby. Sorry for confusion 😬
