What do you guys think about the Surge?
Love the scissors on the Surge! It cuts very well
Love the Surge. Been using it at work for several months. Have several Leatherman and Victorinox multitools and although all serve a purpose I find myself getting by with the Surge more often than not. With the quality of the scissors, cutters and pliers, it’s worth it to carry around that extra weight. Got used to it after awhile anyway.
Saves trips to the toolbox 🧰
I chose the super tool 300 over the surge because I don't have to worry about loosing any small parts, but the surge looks appealing.
Just bought one today. Way better than most of the range.
Give credit where credit is due. Awesome review. I have had this Surge for three years and just recently picked it back up to get familiar with. As soon as you talked about and revealed the lanyard hole i paused the video with and got the surge some 550 cord a lighter and the swiss army knife. Thank you so much. I like the back up of lanyards on certain tools. Plus you revealed the wire striper, crimper and rod cutter i knew absolutely nothing about. I have the bit kit and the extension also.
You the man. And thank you so much. Im humbled
❤ mine...in fact the four I have. One for work, one in the truck, another in my BOB and last a spare.
I had this for about two years now, and I had no clue about the lanyard whole!
I only have one Leatherman and this is it. 👍
yes you can use any T shank compatible blade but you have to drill a hole in them to fit securely in the surge
Excellent presentation. No distracting background music. No multimedia special effects. No long intro that focuses on his face instead of on the tool. Efficient use of time. Excellent.
I leave this one in my car, very handy when you have a problem on the road
Awesome video! Have the Surge in satin and will definitely get the all black version. Thanks for sharing!
I was given an original Leatherman in a leather carrying belt case in 1987. Unfortunately, i had to take an emergency flight to Florida and did not get to check my bag. TSA wouldn't allow me to drop it in the FedEx box right next to the line..this past Tuesday i spotted a shiny SS Surge with the carrying belt case at a pawn shop. It looked brand new, even had the file in the case. It now rides on my hip and I dont fly any more. And more good news cost me $40.
I only need one multi-tool and Surge is the one.
Got myself a Rebar a little bit ago as my first leatherman, after some decent use on it I think the Surge will be my next tool and I would also like to try out the P4.
Love the Surge, don't get the black though. Anybody that actually uses it heavy will notice it will "shed" a lot. Just go with the stainless steel
I have the wave want an upgrade thinking of getting a surge
It’s very nice, but it is also a lot heavier fyi
Noticed your hands were quite stained by the black oxide coating. Is that normal and how long does it keep coming off in normal use? Is there any way to avoid it? Otherwise good review of the best Leatherman IMHO.
Can I just replace the smaller flathead with a microdriver like the first generation surge had?
Is it me or does the T shank blade exchanger look like a-jigsaw blade? wonder if they will fit?
They do fit!
First time buyer.
Black gonna get faded soon than steel ?
Im buying for fun and just unboxing things.
Should i go only steel to hav it look new all time ?
Yes, I have the stainless version. I hold it and admire it way more than I should! 😂 You'll love it! And don't forget the accessories...
Is this tool UK legal❓
No
Yes, you can buy them here, I just bought one at Millets
@davebloke829
Sorry, I meant "Street Legal."
You asked if they’re legal in the UK, the answer is no, they’re not legal. Not quite sure why someone has responded that you can buy them here, that doesn’t make them legal to carry. They have a locking blade. If you’re looking for something you can carry here Leatherman do knifeless models (rebar, I think), which are aimed at the UK for that reason… those do have a saw so you don’t lose complete functionality 👍
@nickdrinkall1397
Cheers m'dear.
thanks for the short & useful review, it's pretty rare nowadays
Surge is the only leatherman you need. Sure the free platform is more "fun" but less serious. Especialy the arc lol surge will never disapoint.
Surge is def a better wave with the exception of no glasses bit driver
I just purchased the Leatherman Surge, I was looking for a multi-tool that would stand up to worst possible SHTF conditions. I'm keeping this in my bugout bag and/or in my truck since it's a bit much (heavy and large) as an EDC. I can see why professional handy-men/women would love the Surge. I will add a small ferro rod in the holder.
Pro tip: You can use the diamond file as a sharpening stone for the knife.
Nice straight forward review. Liked and subbed.
With the bit driver out, extend the tool like you're going to use the ruler with the pliers folded in and can you use it like a conventional screwdriver. The way it's angled makes it almost perfect without it always slipping off the screw.
Is this the Rolls Royce of Leatherman’s multi tools?
Nah that would be the ARC
It's Leathermans biggest and strongest! The Arc is the dearest.
Excellent review. Straight to the point. Very well done. 👍🏾
Very nice discussion ¡
Thank you!
thank you for the review. What is the point (pardon the pun) of the needle eye awl? I've bought a surge and think it is a sturdy piece of kit but I'm in two minds as to whether i'm gonna exchange it for a victorinox plus x multitool, right now the reason not to is the price, it's 30% more than the surge. thanks
It's used to puncture holes. The sewing eye allows you to thread string or thread inside the holes you make. It can also be used as sort of like a manual drill.
