This is interesting... the front office seems to be going with the "bring in a lot of guys and let them duke it out" for WR's and DB's, but the "hand select chosen few" approach for the DL and OL...
It’s priority’s. They want the line to be set for the next 5 years at least, and now next offseason they can bolster the other positions needed.

It's the mystique of playing for BAMA. I wouldn't be surprised if Minkah endorsed Anthony Averett for this opportunity. NOT everybody who plays for BAMA are going to be great, but we'll see what he does. He didn't play a single snap last year for San Fran, so is he going to push for starting role??? Who knows, but he will be great for depth if he performs like he did several years ago.
When I listen to Sunders, Deke, Chris, Steel Twins and others who have podcasts All I hear them say is we need this, we need that. They need to sign this player and that player and why don't they do this or that?
For the most part, they do not seem to understand you have to pay for those high priced "we want players" or you have to give up draft choices, cash and or both.
The decision makers have a job to do, and this is their occupation. You guys sit in a room and may have others with you giving opinions. I guess it is your opinions that we fans understand. That being said, just because you get a certain player, does not mean that certain player will fit in and contribute the way you think. I hated to see Dotson leave, but he was playing alongside some players that were probably not that good in the first place.
If you are a great player and the others around, you are not that good so to speak. Then your overall play will suffer. If you decide to pop off to other players on the team, the coaching staff or the head coach regarding your frustrations, you're going to find yourself out of there.
He went to a team that had a decent QB, above average O line and he was able to fit in, contribute and do very well, and get some bank. Good for him. I wished we could have kept him though.
Sometimes a player when he is jettisoned off somewhere, will go in there and make his new team feel like they got a steal. What happened to him here, gave him a swift kick in the pants and he went out there and demonstrated what he could be when properly motivated. He should be thanking the Steelers for all they invested in him to get him to the point where he is today. But he just didn't do it here the way he is it doing out there. Then you have to think about the injuries he sustained that the team paid for that helped him to heal.
Sometimes a change in scenery is a good thing too.
I just find it interesting that many fans like to talk about the Claypool deal with Chicago. Look at who San Francisco has on their team who was playing for the Steelers. Hargrave (through Phili) and now Dotson. Other teams know the Steeler usually have decent to above average players that will come in an contribute.
Even Jones (was the Steelers then went to Arizona) and contributed there and got some bank after leaving the Steelers. Artie Burns (much panned by the fans) is still playing and recently Bush (Steelers, Seattle now the Browns) is still making a living playing ball.
How many who think they know it all Steeler fans could say the same thing in their current occupations?
I wouldn't mind getting a million here, or a million there after my first big contract ended with the team even though it did not work out passed that contract period. If they invested their money wisely and spent conservatively, they might all be sitting pretty good right now. (And I'm speaking of all three aforementioned players that fans seem to want to pile on every single chance they get). Houses paid for. Cars paid for. Maybe college money set aside for their children if they had any. Life insurances paid up just in case. Little or no debts. Money sitting in the bank drawing interest. All those sorts of things.
The next time I hear one of these guys on these podcasts talking about this player or that player was trash, and that said player is still finding work in the NFL, even at the minimum. I'd say to them. Maybe not very good to your standards. But their bank account is not measured by your standards, but by what they are earning while playing in the NFL.
Think about that the next time!

When you look at Averett signing, the draft pick of Watts who projects as a safety, the free agent signing of Bishop as a slot back and Cam Sutton possible return, it is unlikely that Patrick Peterson is going to return to the team unless there are injuries.
They traded Peterson.
Or dumbed him to gain cap space.
