Another cool show from Crown. I really liked the costumes and the color pallet. The brass was amazing as always and the guard was on point. The percussion played really musically and it was a great show from beginning to end.

This show took a while to grow on me. To me, this show gives off the vibes that "Beast" was supposed to. I love it so much.
I agree that the show is very synth heavy, unfortunately the live mixing can be lackluster. However, seeing this show in person, everything was mixed so beautifully. Even though the official audio of this show has some issues, A fan went through and fixed it and it sounds a lot better. That has given me a new appreciation for this show, Especially musically. I hope crown continues upward!
yeah, flomarching is HORRIBLE with mixing
i remember tuning into finals live with troopers on the field, and my ears were ASSAULTED by the soloist, while the rest of the hornline was inaudible
these shows sound beautiful in person, the synth bass sounds cool every single time in person and isnt overbearing, its just that flo just doesnt care enough to put out the basics of holding a music event
The synth issues were an issue with flo that night. Sounds great in all other recordings + in person
Agree with you on the heavy synth - maybe it was picked up more by the recording mics than it was heard live, don't know, I never got to see them live last year. Nice analysis on your part! This show had it all - I thought it was a really great production. Such a culmination of talent, from the designers, techs, and marching/playing members. To me, it was a very memorable show from beginning to end, so kudos to them!
the synths were definitely way too hot on finals night from flo. the balance was substantially better in person
Gotta Love Crown’s Hornline!!! I felt the same way about the soloist using conventional instruments vs marching instruments. And they’re mic’d up 🤦🏻♂️. Regardless Crown does an Excellent job with those intricate Hornline runs!!! Thanks for the video!!! -Nick Giardiello

sure you CAN get a really good sound from a marching horn, and you CAN play an unmicd solo like that with one
but they arent looking for a good sound, theyre looking for the best possible sound, which means using the best possible instrument for the occasion, with the best playing conditions(not being required to project across a field); theres a pretty much any professional ensemble outside of DCI is micd up with all top tier instruments; they simply sound better like that
and a crown soloist is 100% at a skill level where these nuances would have an effect on the quality of sound
in the end, DCI is a musical activity, and adding in spots like this with mics and concert instruments makes the music more musical, and dont take away from the big loud ensemble moments; the alternative is just a worse version, with an unmicd solo on marching horns
the heavy synth bass(and pit in general) is just a flo issue; their recordings sound like doodoo every time
notice at 7:00 you cannot hear the hornline whatsoever, but the trumpets are playing the same thing as the pre-recorded strings
and yet you cannot hear it at all in the recording
I like the special synth effects during the show -- the Bjork overlay, the harp glissando toward the end, the organ in the middle -- all non-traditional instruments for drum corps that gave their show a little more period feel.
But, I did agree with you -- you arguably have the best horn line in DCI, why hide any part of it by an overpowering sound system?
Love the show more every time I see it. So much harmonic depth. Didn't like it much on first listen, but like it more and more as I repeat as I catch new textures, dissonances, and riffs that I feel only CC can pull off.

@@MarchingArtsNetworkTV the synths arent nearly as loud in the semifinals flo recording, its definitely a flo issue
I, honestly, don't know how judging can be done from the sidelines. I understand why, but as precise and "perfect" as the top 10-12 can be, I believe that being in the mix gives a better perspective of the performance than away, on the sidelines.

its too bad flos audio is terrible, cuz this show live is insanely loud and more balanced. the audio sounds so bass heavy here
I agree that sometimes it feels like the Drumcorps is like a back up singer to the synthesizer 🤦🏻♂️
It's a great show. But In my opinion the staging of the drumline should have been in the backfield during the tuba feature.
A nice show that had the potential for me to be a truly epic show but overall I thought it was a bit of a swing and a miss. WAAAYYYYYY too much synth. I am not anti electronics until the electronics stop being an addition and become a distraction. This is Carolina Crown... Gods Hornline... let me actually HEAR them! If I was passing out letter grades.... Perfomance an A... design... a C.
