2:30 is the Speedway gas station at 711 E. Jefferson. 10:11 Northwest corner of Trumbull and Grand River... 1:17 and 11:10..the northwest corner of Michigan and Rosa Parks (12th St.)
That '39-45 cents a gallon' was pretty rough when you were making $12K/year( average family income, 1976). Those giant cars were 'white elephants' back then. They couldn't GIVE THEM AWAY!!
a perfect example of the failure of government price controls. instead of letting the prices rise so the companies can afford to pay for the insane spike in OPEC prices, the democrats instead put in a price cap for fuel istead, leading to pumps simply just running out and/or leading to rationing and long lines, dragging the entire economy down with it. the 70's was a dark time if you lived in any major American city, hence why many musicians around this time included themes about unemployment and "Stayin alive"
@@TheOzthewiz The demtards ran the house , & the senate then. Did it get better when dumb ass Jimmy Carter got in? Hell no. & who's messing things up now? Joe , & the demtards.😂😂😂😂.

Ones is grand river and Henry. One is Trumbull and Grand River. 12 st. Is one. The total is downtown at 375 and jefferson. One is in the neighborhood near 2 nd.
Horrible times. As a child I remember that idiot jimmy carter and his fireside chat’s while my father had to get in line on odd/even days early in the morning just to get gas…Let’s Go Brandon and leftists….
even volkswagen bettles survived the gas shortages. and unlike other big name cars. i think ot amazing the history has surely turned the page ah hu. the beat goes on

CAR GUY nobody wanted to drive a gas hog when gas when over $1 a gallon. You can buy muscle cars dirt cheap this was the beginning of the end of big American cars and other fuel thirsty high powered muscle car engines.
@@Victoria3232-j7o Though I doubt you'll ever see an Accord or Camry at a Mecum auction. Can't imagine Gen Xers when they reach their 60s and 70s pining for Civics and Corollas the way aging boomers do for the GTOs and Mustangs of their youth. Though Celicas were neat. I'll give them that.

Thanks for uploading these. I barely remember going to the gas stations in nashville tennessee as a child and seeing the long lines.
Gas was still a better value back then at 39-45 cents a gallon. Those giant cars were awesome too!

They were but they were not fuel efficient like the ones today but they were still better
grim times. Best left in the past, no way would I like to return to how things were then.
Don’t worry. The worst is yet to come.
Too bad.
These times are coming back. Inflation and shortages as we run out of resources.
Let’s check back in 300 days and see where we are
@@Withnail1969
Already here
At 5:50. I remember double gas tank trucks all over the roads. Definitely don’t see those anymore.
Weren't there 2 shortages? 1973 and 1978?
Yes
73 and 79

It was during NIXON's reign that gas prices (along with food) started skyrocketing!!!

And most of those big cars got about 10 mpg.
What were people thinking buying these things?
Great day to see the way it used to be!
ps have anyone noticed the flat screen tv sets on the modern gas pumps these days
They're pretty annoying.
Flat "panel" you mean like LCD? Yeah, I see them about once a week...
@@KingRoseArchives They are hard to see when wearing 'polarized' sunglasses!
And they all play music and ads now so irritating
if gas was a shortage hell would break out

At 03:27, when the pump gets to 7 gallons it registers a total cost of $4.21. TODAY when the pump gets there it registers $25.83.
YUP!
YEAP !
Inflation means those two are about equal.
This is great footage to see, I wish I older so I could of seen all those classic in person!
why??!! it's human misery
They had Total stations in the US?
Sure did, for quite some time. I’m guessing from 1970 to 1986.
Yes, from the Early 1970's to the Early/Mid 2000's
Omg this as all happened before in the uk we have lines of cars miles long just like 1970
