I was about 16 yrs old when this sing came out and i loved it. My best girlfriend and i would listen to it all the time. As years rolled on, countless times we said to each other, those were the days. I just turned 72 and my best friend turned 74. She passed away about 3 months ago. We were friends for 62 years. The last time i talked to her before she died, we both said.....those were the days my friend 😢😢

A melancholic and very beautiful song sung by a beautiful woman with a beautiful voice! This song is SO true to life, especially those of us who've been around awhile! We can always go back and visit old places where the memories were made; but, we can never go back to those times! A beautiful and grim reminder that we can go home and visit, but we can't ever go back no matter how much we want to!
I have this vintage music figurine with a Melody that I never knew but always invited me to reflections to something deep in my heart and I just found today is this song ❤
I was 7 in the summer of 68. I'm not sure I remember this song from exactly that time, and in fact I'd totally forgotten about until this morning. A young friend happened to say "those were the days" while we were reminiscing about the early days of our friendship, and I immediately started signing. Of course he'd never heard of it, he was born in 84, but he said "what a beautiful song, did you make it up?" I told him no, it was something from my childhood that always made me cry. So I looked here on UA-cam, and, of course, hearing it again after so many years, it made me cry bittersweet tears. Another time I sang Cats in the Cradle to him, and it made both of us cry. He thought I'd made that one up too. Kids these days!
Once upon a time there was a tavern Where we used to raise a glass or two Remember how we laughed away the hours Think of all the great things we would do? Those were the days, my friend We thought they'd never end We'd sing and dance forever and a day We'd live the life we choose We'd fight and never lose For we were young and sure to have our way La-la-la-da-da-da La-la-la-da-da-da Da-da-da-da, la-da-da-da-da Then the busy years went rushing by us We lost our starry notions on the way If by chance I'd see you in the tavern We'd smile at one another and we'd say Those were the days, my friend We thought they'd never end We'd sing and dance forever and a day We'd live the life we choose We'd fight and never lose Those were the days, oh yes, those were the days La-la-la-da-da-da La-la-la-da-da-da Da-da-da-da, da-da-da-da-da Just tonight I stood before the tavern Nothing seemed the way it used to be In the glass I saw a strange reflection Was that lonely woman really me? Nice Russian song from the old times, when the Bolsheviks caused massive immigration of high society out of Russia, they were singing this song, hoping revolution won't last long and the white would defeat the red communists. Great to know it was translated into English and was even famous. Дорогой длинною...
Excellent performance, thank you. Originally it was a Russian song "Dear Long/Дорогой длинною". Surprisingly, although I am Russian, but I love this performance in this video even more
You are not right, my friend. The right name of the song is 'long road', because the word 'dear' you mean a word in russian 'Дорогой', which means 'important, favour'.
@@The_boys_chanel Yes, you're right. The fact is that I don't speak English, so I have to use a translator. And Google translated it that way, because technically these words are spelled the same.
