- F1 silly season is in full swing on the drivers side of things but away from the track, things are getting even wilder. Experienced, high ranking, team managers and engineers are few and far between in Formula One. There are only ten teams after all so finding an experienced team principal or chief technical officer isn’t easy, which means the same people tend to crop up in these top level jobs when they become available. This week though, the return of one of F1’s most controversial and hated figures has shocked the sport. The mastermind behind one of the sport's most disgusting cheating scandals is on his way back to the team where he planned and executed the terrible deed. How is this happening? And why now? When F1 implemented the token rule to prevent any team from catching up to Mercedes engine, I finally understood F1 is professional wrestling.
Literally, i know Flavio did some unthinkable things, but after decade and a half of being banned, he should come back, he was one of those people who think outside the box, bend the rules to the limit, and does anything to make this sport more exciting and unpredictable. 15 years was enough of a punishment, not talking about him being persona non grata atm, if anyone can save the french, it will be him (funny how ferrari when run by italians is a joke, but a powerhouse when run by the french, but Renault is trash when the french run it, and pretty awesome when there is an italian in the reigns)
Slightly overboard on Flav hate. Lets remember that before crashgate he was very successful, taking Benetton to 2 drivers and one constructors before being dropped and then called back after Renault bought Benetton, rebuilt them to win another 2 drivers and 2 constructors.
He got punished for his crime, did his time and more considering his ban was lifted 11 years ago. I didnt see Pat Symonds getting attacked upon his return like Flav is here
Unpopular opinion: if I was in flavios shoes, and my boss said you have to win a race or we’re shutting the doors.. I’d probably do whatever to took to win that race. Tell your below average second driver to crash on purpose or tell hundreds of your staff they’re out in the cold? Doesn’t really seem like a hard decision
If I was in Flavio's shoes, and my boss said you have to win a race or every single team in F1 is shutting down, thousands of staff will be unemployed, and you will receive $0 of compensation, I'd never do what I was told. Some people are ethical and some people are unethical. Period.

The funniest thing about Flav orchestrating crashgate to get a win that Renault required to stay in the sport is the fact that the very next race after Singapore in Japan, Alonso won on merit. Negating the need for crashgate to have ever happened.

Flavio has always been a necessary evil of the sport bringing big business and securing F1 teams. Taking the moral high ground in a sport that has ties with not so legit means of finance and money laundering seems a bit rich. Had he not been banned I doubt F1 would be as backwards as it is today.
In only one year, we got the pink mercedes and the DAS.
We got the 2021 season where TW and CH were both obviously trying to manipulate Masi.
The truth is, this level of competition encourages sketchy things. FB recognized that and used his brain to get four WDCs and three constructor titles.
In the end, that's what matters. Yeah he has a bad reputation. But Alonso and Schumacher haven't. They're loved.
Briatore is a genius and he is exactly what Alpine - and F1 - needs. Alpine because he can help them get a """legal""" car for 2026, and F1 for the entertainment

I have NEVER...hated Flavio Briatore! 😜 Hate is a strong word and as a spectator of Formula 1, nothing anyone even associated with Formula 1 has ever done, has effected my life in any way aside from occasionally amusing me, which is the entire point of watching sports I don't compete in. Anything past that starts to look a little obsessive and imbalanced. Like football hooligans for example. Everything in it's proper place and if Flavio, Maurizio, Ron or any other skeleton from the past wants another crack at it? Bravo, I say! I always love a good sh!tshow! 🤣

If Briatore was banned for life, how the hell would he be allowed to stick his nose in Alpine's business. I would think that as soon as F1 caught wind of any back door deals they would step in and shut it down. After all "banned for life" means just that, no contact with any team forever and F1 has the power to inforce that.

The Stewart/Haas NASCAR team is folding at the end of the season, and selling their 4 charters. Haas's reason, is so he can concentrate on, and be more involved in the F1 team, so I don't think he's leaving as long as he's breathing.

@eoincassin4265 Like any business, it relies on clients, or as they say in television, "Viewers". Formula One, has always percieved itself, as a "Non-Staging" event, I mean, unlike, the WWF & in the 40+ years, I've followed F1, the kind of viewers I've noticed, are your logical, entrepreneurial, type of leaders. Now, on the otherhand, WWF has a lesser type of breed, like, lower in IQ. If F1, goes down this route, many surronding socities, or associating socities (like governmants, army corps, etc that have been standing shoulder to shoulder, particularly on "Business Modelling ", etc, will eventually distance themselves, from F1, if F1 doesn't irradicate such behavior and that Will cause F1 itself to loose, severly, in the long run. Infact, business being always keen on appreciating strategy, I can't seem to believe the logic behind this and I actually believe, it won't happen, cos' there'll always be someone nearby, that'll see sense, unless F1 as a whole, is trying to commit suicide, I again, seriously hope not.

Sums up the state of F1 and why I no longer watch. There was one a time where "engineering a win" meant working hard relentlessly, strategizing having a good overall package on the day, whereas in 2008 it meant cheating, and with the return of this scum-bag will probably mean the same in 2024-2025.

Before the crash gate he was one of the most successful team leaders, he had an eye for young talents, he was able to think outside the box and he brought money from good sponsors.
He was ready to do whatever was in his power to save a team. A team with very talented and hard working people. Cheating, yes, but Mercedes, Ferrari and many other teams have a history of bending or breaking the rules. To put the blame in one individual and because of his birthplace and his demeanour is not politically correct by your standards makes this post irrelevant and upsetting. Maybe explain why he was acquitted in 2013. And why he is still able to come back. Do your job and report, and don’t waste our time .
