Born Gisela Wuchinger, Austrian artist Gilla made her claim to fame when she formed a band with Helmut Rulofs and a guy called Henry. Playing a gig in Eastern France in 1974, producer Frank Farian caught interest in the smoky voiced, exotically looking, bass-playing singer. Signing to Hansa Records, Gilla's debut on record was a German cover of an Italian hit, "Mir ist kein Weg zu weit" (No Road Too Far for Me), but not much happened. It was the second single, credited to Gilla and Seventy-Five Music, "Willst du mit mir schlafen geh'n", a German disco version of Labelle's hit, which gave her a hit. Disco in German was one thing, singing "Do you want to sleep with me?" on a pop record was another thing, it was unheard, and several German radio stations banned the record. An album with the same title followed later in 1975 with a new single, "Tu' es" (Do it!) with equally "explicit" lyrics (judged by 1975 standards). "Tu' es" (penned by Farian and lyricist Fred Jay) became a German Top 10-hit; "Ich brenne" (I'm Burning) followed in the summer of 1976, the English version "Help Help" gave her a hit in the Netherlands.
