    I own Gourmande Girls. I have said this to a lot of people. You, Steff and Heather are the three hardest working people I know in this community. The three of you work non-stop. I have never known people who were able to put out such amazing content, create their own palettes, (you and Heather), respond to followers, manage multiple platforms, and keep everything going consistently. I have so much respect for you, and for all of you who do this for a living. It takes a lot of dedication and self-discipline. I know that I have a lot of work, and you have a brand and a channel. I don't have a channel. I cannot imagine how many hours a day you work. Thank you for everything you do for the indie beauty community!

      Christina made me realize that some peoplework hard and get tired and respond by noticing how much others are doing and are moved to admiration. Others work hard and start to feel the opposite, a resentment towards others. In my personal experience, those people are going through something and it's okay to let them not affect us while we give them the space they need.

    Oof, I work for a small business that sells products online and the amount of emails we get per week from people asking why their product hasn’t shipped yet less than 24 hours after placing the order 🙄 Amazon has gotten people too used to super quick turnaround times at the expense of their workers 😢 I’m honestly glad when an indie brand takes a few more days to ship because it means they’re not working themselves into the ground trying to fulfill orders

    Living in Asia the struggle with the international shipping is real.
    By no means I want to say indie brands should charge less, I know how ridiculous expensive it is sending things, however at the end of the day these costs are often a dealbreaker for me when ordering. If the shipping is 30-40$ (not sure what the exact amount is due to exchange rate) I think three times if I really need that 35-50$ palette 🙈

    I don't think larger UA-camrs are less authentic but they become much less relatable as they start to earn lots of money. I struggle to watch some of my favorites as they're constantly buying not just tons of makeup but clothes, home decor, gigantic homes, lavish vacations, etc. And some as they become larger start to hire others to do the editing, thumbnails, etc.

    I will never understand people who feel the need to comment negatively on others' appearance! Like, if you don't find someone attractive/don't like the way they look, you can just ignore the person and keep scrolling/move on. There's literally zero reason to be rude to them about it. And ugh, don't even get me started on "you're so brave"... as a plus-size woman, I get that so much on social media. As a MUA who consumes content made by other MUAs, some can definitely be pretentious and I tend to try and avoid those ones. I love the ones who are making educational content and aren't being hateful or judgy towards others (sometimes it can be hard not to judge the silly click bait "techniques" some people do on tiktok just for views though). It's important to be patient and kind to people seeking makeup help, not everyone has the same skills or background with makeup as others and it can be intimidating and overwhelming to ask for help.
    Also people being mean to others online BAFFLES me. If I don't like a creator or have an opinion that isn't nice I keep it to myself and avoid consuming content of that creator.

    When it comes to influencers that seem to “like everything they try” I also think an aspect of that is the more time you spend with makeup, the more you know your preferences. I feel like there are a lot of influencers that purposely try products that match their preferences so that 1) they do not feel they waste their money and 2) they can give a more fair review . I think you are a really knowledgeable influencer who is able to separate personal preferences from recognizing quality products but there are some influencers who may struggle with that a little more. Anyway, hope you are having a great day and I really enjoyed the video 💗

If the creator starts doing a lot of things I don’t like, then I stop watching. I don’t comment telling them. Like I don’t get what they think leaving their mean a$$ comment is going to do? The creator is going to see it and be like, yup they’re right. Ok, my own hot take reply to one of the hot takes 😅 I’m actually more concerned about the shift in society AWAY from experts than having any concern with experts being snooty. I think most of the pro MUAs on UA-cam come across as helpful. There’s nothing wrong (imo) with letting people know proper technique. No one is making anyone use it.
    I’m a musician and this transfers completely. Anyone can play and everyone should.. but there’s a massive issue with the idea that training isn’t important. It is important! Choosing your own path is important, but certain paths aren’t possible without training. And getting free training from professionals who went to school? Sharing their time and experience as a working artist? That’s great.
    Just my 2 cents. I love the pros and amateurs (meaning passionate practitioners) both. ❤

  • @queenofwales_
    @queenofwales_ 11 місяців тому +4

    Haha, I once found a gossip forum having a thread about you. It felt like all the sad people were there. 😂 I love how passionate they hate you (or one other a lot bigger youtube creator I found there as well) that they inspect your every move and every word, and literally waiting for you to make your next move to rant about it. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Like, I don’t have that dedication towards people I follow and like for one or another reason, but those are spending their time on people they don’t even like! 🤦🏼‍♀️😂
    The other thing I thought it was sick that, for example, in your thread there were people who were stating opinion that your wedding dress choice should be on you as you’re the one wearing it, but somebody was just starting to bully that person and might be even saying that this is the place for the rant and roast. 😂 Glorious! 😂 I saw this happening in both yours and other creator’s threads that once somebody was saying smth sane, they were just smashed against the wall for just saying that this is already crossing the lines. The reaction basically was “you’re just a fan of this person”, so, basically, that opinion wasn’t valid, although, a lot of times those opinions quite obviously had nothing to do with being a fan of anyone, just the common sense. 😂
    But, yeah, this is quite a huge thing people are doing themselves. Like, I can’t imagine myself plainly wasting my time on stalking a person I totally despice just to post it in a place, where there’s gonna be loads of other sad people waiting for somebody bringing some tea. 😃

      Yes! I found a comment thread with people bashing Angie, and I couldn't believe how sad and miserable they were! They were bashing the Helaween palettes. "Halloween" is not just orange, green, red, and black. Costumes come in every color and I like the backstory of Hela and Oden's Eye, Norse mythology, etc. It fits. These people were just miserable. I left them to their misery and came to watch my favorite MUA... Angie!

    ... and this is exactly why I don't have a UA-cam beauty channel. I've had so many suggest that I start one but I have seen the hateful ugly comments and I personally don't have the personality to handle that. It would be crushing. I don't understand the mentality of leaving - hateful hurtful comments. Apparently a lot of people didn't have mothers who taught them if you have nothing good to say say nothing.

    Some people are just full of misery and bitterness and they want to spread it with the world, they believe we are their punching bag. UA-cam should somehow allow to totally block certain people's IP from even have access to our videos/channels. It sometimes becomes actual online harassment.

  • @jayadora

    As a pro makeup artist, my concerns were never content creators. It was clients or customers that would take influencer opinions like facts, and literally tell me things like "well, thats not what xyz said, and they have thousands of followers"
    It was always the clients interpretations of the content that caused issues for me. They didnt seem to understand that a content creator is speaking to an audience, and a MUA is consulting an individual. Wildly different things. With that said, content creators have absolutley added to my education in many ways. We both have our place.

    As far as Indie brands not needing to be Amazon fast: I am fine with waiting for a product I bought for a week for processing and another week and a half for shipping. But I think it is bad business practice for a product to take over 30 days to reach someone which I have had happen with both Unearthly and Bella Beute Bar. I won’t buy from either brand again because of this business practice. Lots of Indie brands do manage to get it to me within two and half weeks.

  • @morganwu282
    @morganwu282 11 місяців тому +5

    I agree that indie brands shouldn't be held to Amazon standards. I also understand that once a product actually ships out, the brand doesn't have any say. On the other side, I do think it's a little interesting how long it takes some brands take to print out a shipping label, package an item, and get said packaged item to USPS/UPS/etc. versus other brands. This is true with both small indie brands as well as large mainstream brands.
    For example, rare beauty ships out very quickly in my experience, but colourpop is very slow. On the indie side, brands like Nomad and Blend Bunny package and send out items very quickly, but other brands are slower than molasses. I suspect it is simply a matter of where the brand chooses to prioritize, but for myself I am more likely to order from a brand if they process in a timely fashion (based on the size of the brand - I have higher expectations for Rare than a smaller brand obviously).
    That being said, the most important thing here is transparency. If a brand says up front on the site that their processing speed is 15-20 business days, I just don't order if I don't want to wait that long. The only issue is if a brand is not forthcoming with that info.

    • @xamyx725
      @xamyx725 11 місяців тому

      My issue is with brands that create so much hype for a product/launch, but don’t want to hire enough support to fulfill the orders. Glamlite is particularly bad about this. Once they actually ship my order, I receive it within 2 days, but it takes about a month to get to that point. On the other hand, Melt Cosmetics typically ships within 3-4 days at most when a new product launches… Glamlite has honestly grown to a size which requires more support, even if they just hire temps with these major launches.

  • @jennteal5265
    @jennteal5265 11 місяців тому +2

    100% on people not giving Indie brands room to breathe. One of my favorite earring shops has done 10-15 BD shipping for a couple years. I don't mind the wait at all! As long as I know it takes you longer to ship AND when things happen, you put out an update, I don't mind delayed shipping. People get _so_ mad for the smallest things. Maybe it's my age. At this point, I just don't see the necessity of stupid fast shipping. It's rarely necessary for _wants_ as opposed to _needs._

    • @AngelicaNyqvist
      @AngelicaNyqvist  11 місяців тому

      yeah I agree, I dont mind spending a little extra waiting for something fun, when it's not a need :)

    • @xamyx725
      @xamyx725 11 місяців тому

      It depends on the brand, and whether or not they’re in a position to know how to handle it. Glamlite, for example, initiates a months-long hype campaign, then can’t seem to be bothered with staffing their warehouse appropriately. There’s absolutely no reason it should take over a month just to have the shipping label created when they’ve teased a launch for 2 months, and they’ve had multiple campaigns of that magnitude…

    One of the hot takes is that some BG pretend to like everything. I'm thinking of one BG I watch who likes almost everything, but I've noticed there are major releases that I'm pretty sure she would be sent, but she just never reviews them. I can't know for sure, but I think she's only featuring products she loves, and ignoring products she hates. This makes sense because she's reviewing mostly indie, often small companies. Again, she's never said this, but I wonder if she doesn't want to hurt a small brand with a negative review, so she just... doesn't review it. This is all speculation on my part of course. But I do think there can be good, honest, honorable reasons for a creator to give all positive reviews.

It’s wild. Also I don’t understand emanating that much negative energy all the time. It seems exhausting.

    I am probably one of those UA-camrs who like most of the makeup products they get (although, not always), but that's because I don't live in the US, which means that I don't get anything in PR or sent to me by a brand to try out, and I am usually very careful about spending my own money on something, so I initially try to buy the products that I will most likely enjoy - another reason for that being that I don't have any extra money to just invest in reviewing for the sake of trying something that I think I might not like, but that people are talking about.

    I absolutely agree with the commentor/audience hot take. I can't believe some of the toxic comments people make. I guess it's easy to do behind a screen and it's not ok. I will never understand why people can't just follow the policy, if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. If viewers don't like a creator or what they are doing, move the fluff on! You don't HAVE to leave a nasty comment, don't watch the creator then. Move on. It's not hard and I will never understand it.

    My Helaween palettes should be here tomorrow! I’m so excited ❤ could not agree more with everyone who hates mean and disrespectful comments, especially about people’s appearances. Do people not understand you don’t have to find everyone on this planet physically attractive to be nice? At least for me, I want my comments online to reflect the type of person I am in real life, so I’ll never say anything I wouldn’t say to your face (and I rarely am not nice to someone in person). I don’t say mean shit to people unless they’re mean to me first, but usually I just walk away. Like you’d have to be really mean to me to get me to snap back! 😂 I would never leave a hate comment to anyone, if I don’t like you then I don’t watch you and don’t say anything.
    I also don’t understand the hate watching concept. Like why are you wasting time watching videos of someone you don’t like just so you can be rude to them? Instead, watch people you actually want to support? It’s so ridiculous. But I hope you know that you are so valued in this community! Your videos got me out of a makeup rut last year, and I’m so glad I discovered you back then. I’ve been loving and wearing indie makeup ever since I found your channel and I’m never going back! This is the side of the community I feel is more positive and supportive, of course we have some duds 😂 but mostly everyone is so kind and that’s what I’m here for. I’ve been through way too much crap in my life, the last thing I want to see if negative crap online so I don’t follow any of those influencers who love the drama. The indie community is where it’s at ❤ we love you girl!
    You’re amazing and such a great person in this space, you’ll always have my support (unless you do something icky which I highly doubt will ever happen) haha. You’re truly one of my faves, you inspire me not just with makeup but in life, you seem genuine and like a kind hearted person. Plus you are just so talented and creative! You’re exactly the type of person I have no issue supporting and I’m glad you’re here! I’d probably still be thinking sephora eyeshadow was the best there was and getting continuously disappointed by the lack of sparkles and dimension in mainstream shadows if it weren’t for you 😂❤

    I actually see far more creators do over the top positive reviews as opposed to over the top negative reviews. Especially in 2023. I don’t remember the last time I saw an over the top negative review on youtube. Tiktok is a different story because it’s so over saturated with “let me try to go viral anyway I can” type content
    I also can’t stand the kind of community the drama channels who make exclusively beauty community drama videos foster. I think they’ve done more harm than good and they nitpick the most ridiculous reasons to condemn a creator.

    Some huge creators only post a video like once every 8 months or something lol I think that is where the opinion of smaller influencers work harder comes from. Plus if they're trying to make it a career at the beginning it appears from the outside that more content is uploaded which would make us viewers see that as working harder.

    If everyone on UA-cam is raving about the same things, usually it’s because they’re a new product or trendy product. Example, cream blushes in general. I’ve heard several people say things like “I don’t know why I’m liking cream blushes, I used to not like them”. I guess I’m kinda making two points but people are liking things like cream blushes because they’re everywhere, they are trendy and cool, and they conditioned to think that (because they are everywhere they turn).

    Aldo, shipping! I agree, someone has to pay for it, and I don't mind paying a reasonable price for it, BUT, there's companies out there charging $25 USD for shipping to Canada (Moira cosmetics I see you) so that feels to me like way too much.

    With begging for money, how is someone gonna ask for money while they go on lavish vacations, buy expensive things, and then say they really need money for their family or their pet or their hospital bills? Buying designer clothes, going on a swanky summer vacation while asking for money is a slap in the face to their viewers. And then the influencer says its PR or a paid brand trip... well most of us don't have "free" trips and PR so why are they asking us for money?

    I keep hoping one day we evolve enough, out of the negativity, we don't need to speak up when we do not like free content, just watch something else you don't need to be rude, and if you are called out it is not being rude, everyone has the right to stand up for them selves. Also we all forget that we can change our minds about a product, or the end result of product, our skin type changes all the time, we all live in different places, we are different people, instead of accusing someone of lying about any product, we should be focusing on why someone likes a product, its our money we are spending after all, no one is forcing us to buy or watch anything. Thank you for sharing your thoughts great work as always! ❤

    I actually think lip oils are underraaed. And I say that as a person who doesn't like glosses and glossy lips in general, but lip oils are so amazing just to wear at home and as a hydration and for editorial looks, I think lot of people just see them as another type of gloss but the usage and benefits of lip oils are on another level.
    About the shipping I would actually really like to have a take on it from some of the brand owners, because I agree with all what you said but then I see some indie brands (and specially in the US) have super expensive shipping in like over 40 dollars cheapest regardless what you order and some other brands can do less then half and its not like the cheaper shipping brand is bigger, it varies a lot and I always wonder what say does the brand actually have into picking which shipping company they will be using or how easy it is to switch the shipping provider because nobody really talks about the actual behind the scenes of the shipping, i think it would explain a lot instead of a brand simply saying 'sorry, cant do anything about this' .yeah, we get it, but why, how come this other shipping option with this other brand is half cheaper.... is it the location from where the brand is shipping... is it the range of the brand, is it the size of the orders that customers usually have ... Maybe it is too much to ask to know and I get that the brand cant share everything about their bussines, but some info would often help people stop bitching about this :D

    I have a question, or maybe an opinion for you, since you've been a makeup artist. I feel like if someone doesn't know how to do something, that's when they pay someone else to do it. In my experience with friends, and customers when I worked at Ulta, people who wear super colorful makeup are willing to spend time to learn it and money for the products. I feel like the people who pay makeup artists for help are the people who don't know how to do their own makeup at all, because they haven't really cared enough to learn, so they just want something simple.

    when it comes to MUA influencers I think I see the pretentious attitude more on insta than here on youtube (maybe because of what the platform/algorithm surfaces) and I just get turned off by things that try to hook people with "You're applying you _____ wrong" (insert product here, foundation, concealer contour whatever) and much prefer make up artists who take a " if you want x effect try y technique" approach but have definitely seen examples of both
