When this rifle first hit the market this was a pretty good deal just because it was a couple hundred dollars cheaper than most other rifles out there. Once the before the stevens 200, savage axis etc hit the market that pretty much ended my desire for the jw-105. Good video.
That's a pretty good summary of where the JW105 fit into the market then and now. For this rifle to make any sense now it would have to sell for $200 or less. Athe moment there are far better rifles available in the low price end of the market.
Well, perhaps, but look at frame 2:51 and note that the hash mark on the elevation slide body is angled oddly. That was what led me to believe that it may be installed wrong. I remember when I was tasked with 'inspecting' the MAK-90's coming into the US in the 90's, I had a reject rate of about 50%. I would grade the rifles as complete rejects, reworks, cosmetic seconds we would sell, or good rifles. We would go through a great deal of effort to prevent returns. What a pain.
I have the 7.62x39 version, shoots decently, Refinished the stock and had to fix the bolt stop as the bolt wouldn't stay in the gun when you opened it, It is all ok now. Fun gun, Mine didn't come with sights as yours did though.
a question can you uses the magazine for the 223 caliber? is the same magazine for the 2 calibers????, please answear me or anybody who reads this, please!!!!
Would you believe there has been a few of these fitted with short, Suppressed 300 Whisper barrels.. Apparently they shot pretty well too.. Is the barrel on this model pinned to the receiver?
Great video, well cut together and some good concise points. These ones are for sale down here in NZ but have a reputation for being on the rougher side of the scale and don't sell very well because of that it seems - the burr in the chamber of yours seems about par for the course. The JW-15, conversely, has a great reputation as a poor mans Brno and is second only to the 10-22 in terms of popularity in a .22lr rifle.
The first rounds you fired are Barnaul, Russia. БПЗ - Барнаульский Патронный Завод - Barnaul Cartridge Plant. I buy those in 7.62-54 and they are not bad, at least in this calibre.
The price will be 398,00€ (that are 500 odd Can$) after being tuned. I know that sounds quite a lot by North-American standards but you got to keep in mind that prices for new firearms in continantal Europe are generally much higher than in North-America, e.g. a Remington 700 CDL being sold at 1200€ (≈1570 Can$) and Marlin being a price-beater with the X7 for 449€ (≈590 Can$) for a big game rifle.
I believe one of the local gunsmiths made a small run of the 300 whispers which apparently didnt sell to well after the extra expense was factored into the price of the rifle... She certainly did well with your handload so she should respond well to a wave of the bedding/trigger job magic wand lol. If you are interested the chamber issue could be fixed by having it reamed to .223AI :-)
I bedded the stock and redid the stain color and added tung oil finish. got a 4x bushnnell too. Using 55 grains bullets i have it zeroed at 25 yards and is hitting high around 6 or 7 inches @100 yards. I have to test out a 300 yard group and see what its really set for. Maybe ill just set it for a 300 yard zero for a deer rifle.
Wow after looking at the accuracy with the Norinco FMJ it makes me wish that the AR15 platforms were not restricted in Canada. My Norc CQB M4 get 1.5" groups at 100 yards with the Chinese/Norc 5.56 ammo using a bushnell T dot that has been co witnessed with the front sight.

I don't recall having seen that marking on the JW-103's that I've seen. The ones I have seen were marked "Bushranger". I think the "Bisley" marked ones may have been originaly been destined for New Zealand and Australia.
Great review, thank you for that! There is a small manufacturer of sporting rifles in Germany importing the rifle. Due to the rifle's poor quality out of the box, they check it and do additional fitting before the sale here, all that at a quite descent price. On the matter what kind of hardwood the stock is from: I'm 99.9% sure that it is European beech. The Chinese in the last years imported high quantities of beech from all over Europe. Hopefully it's well dried, so it doesn't crack or twist!
It seems like that would make a good little coyote gun if I took a little time to set it up. Do you think it would stay under 4" and 250 m. That would be an interesting video to see.
just picked one up myself. just wondering if you've pumped any 5.56x45 through it, i got mine from Canadaammo but they advertised it as a .223 but its stamped 5.56x45 so im assuming its safe to fire both calibres but never tried it myself.
314299 Shooting Channel nice, I was planning on firing both calibres but it just through me for a loop saying one thing marked another, have you cleaned up the barrel channel yet?
There is something odd especially about the German gun-market: New guns and rifles are quite expensive but you can get high-quality rifles quite cheap from people who have inherited guns and but cannot keep them and therefore MUST sell them (by law) and people who gave up hunting or shooting. anf therefore also cannot keep their guns. However, for me the problem is to find what I'm looking for, which is a compact rifle in .223 for fox and roe deer.
My chamber is perfect and a little bedding and some filing and its a new rifle. Thinking of doing a camojob for summercolors, green tan white and black .
Ok, I see this consensus across the board on this firearm, so what would be a good alternative to this? I'm looking for a budget bolt gun, under 400 for sure, iron sights, and preferably 223, 762x39 or 308 or Nato variants, including mil surps, that would shoot somewhat straight. I have a built Preciosion Bolt Gun, but I'm looking for a SHTF bolt gun to practice off hand shooting that doesnt brake the bank, looking at both current made and mil surps. Suggestions?
A mosin nagant would be the cheapest for sure it's 7.62x54R but there really aren't any surplus or current make bolt rifles, with iron sights, and in those calibers that are under $400.
With hindsight, would you still say this budget rifle worth it ? with the experience, in terms of efficiency and value for money ? thanks Avec le recul, penses-tu que cette carabine petit prix est bien ? avec l'expérience, rapport qualité-prix, efficacité ? Merci From Canada/QC
No, I do not think they are worth buying unless you can get one for super cheap (under $200). You are far better off buying a used Remington/Ruger/Savage or a new example of one of the current budget rifles such as a Savage Axis II. I got clear of the one in the video many years ago, traded it against something else at the gun shop.
