Water causes too much of a thermal shock on your carbide and will end up cracking and chipping it. If your chips are flaming up then your "speeds & feeds" are wrong + cutting too dry(use oil not water). Your tools will wear way too quickly.
All in all the color is the titanium's affinity for oxygen at high temperatures which actually preserves the inner grain structure of the metal. Basically Titanium Oxide surface coating is only microns in thickness. We call it "self healing". But there are many substances that will damage the titanium but that pertains to its strength at elevated temperatures. A whole rainbow of colors can be achieved by the process I use. Try making titanium ring from a part of the SR-71 Blackbird. It is a Grade 6 alloy. I have been making them since 2007, I am semi-retired now, with a long customer waiting list. I can only fill special orders from time to time. I have pieces available, the process is quite different, a bit trickier, all hand work, no lathes, takes from 3 to 5 hours to complete a ring, but then, they sell for nearly ten times the amount for standard Ti rings. When using a lathes, keep cutting bits sharp, and adjusted to the proper elevation and angles. The burning of titanium creates toxic fumes and can cause pleural disease and other carcinogenic compounds. Be safe, don't burn your shop down. ☮
Hello, I have my own titanium production line as well as machine tools, polishing equipment. If you can, I would like to help you produce some orders that you don't have time to make
"I'm using a little bit of water to keep it cool" the chip build-up in the short flutes of that center drill might be where you're getting extra heat from. Lol. I get it sometimes you just use what's sitting on top of the gearbox. Just wanted to be that guy.
lol, agreed, seem like they're unaware of how to manage heat. They need to understand the cutter types require the heat going Into the part vs the heat going into the cutter. They do make some c oil rings though.
Is there any coating or anything to help protect the finish on regular titanium rings? I just finished making our wedding bands out of grade 2 Awesome video too!
You can always anodize it, the bonus is that depending on the oxide thickness you get different colors. The TiO2 formed from anodizing is somewhat protective, much like blackening, I don't think it makes it 100% scratchproof though.
Hi! Is there any way to contact you and order such a black titanium ring? The only difficulty is that I am from Russia. Is delivery to Russia possible and how much will it cost me approximately (in dollars)?
How strong is the adhesive you use when bonding each layer of a ring? Is there risk of everything splitting if you accidentally drop it? I saw the Carbon fiber, rose gold, and meteor ring and was curious.

Can't argue with results.
(any machinist is cringing at half the stuff in the vid though 😂)
Always find it funny anytime they say how many inserts they go through.. well that might be in part because your speeds and feeds are so questionable.

@@nickhadfield3192 true. However, you can argue with the means. Lol.
The heat is lost in chips of steel but the heat isn't lost in the chips of Ti. Lol except when the fireworks start

I'd like to get a 2 inch glass guitar bottleneck slide which has a red liquid inside. Would that be possible?
Great video...answered all my questions!
Hi I just bought a titanium ring with 2 bands of supposedly mother of pearl. Do you have any videos on how that is done?
If you were to give the ring a stylised name, might I suggest St.Elmos, mainly because of the fire 🔥🔥🔥
ua-cam.com/video/FsLJv8bLKqMa/v-deo.html
What kind of oil do you use to quench the ring? I’m thinking motor oil and cooking oil but I think I’m not right on that assumption.

I have my own production line and I can use titanium to produce this product.
I think all (or at least allmost all) metal shavings are flamable.

Very rare. and Extremely strong. Generally normal wear and tear shouldn't have a chance of breaking it. It's also covered by a lifetime warranty
