Cambodia is hot, humid… & yes there are mosquitos. When I visited, I probably got bit more than a few hundred times, maybe more. But then again, I had some family in the countryside too & some of the houses out there don’t have doors or screens on their windows to keep the bugs, mosquitos, & other animals out. They’re literally just open shacks propped up in the earth. They had to sleep in mosquito nets or they’ll wake up lookin’ like they had the pox. There are mosquitos even in the city but not as bad especially when you’re indoors but it gets HOT & humid. Some day I plan to visit South Africa as well. 🙏
Cambodians sleep on the floor too. They’d lay out mats & sleep on them because many can’t afford actual beds. I’m sure it’s much better now in 2022 but it was quite sad for a long time. Cambodians suffered a lot & are resilient people. They sing with pain. If you have heard of the gruesome stories Cambodians went through during the genocide “killing fields”, you will understand more where the emotions come from. Although, VannDa is young & didn’t grow up from that era, he lived through the after effects from the war & genocide… which was devastating as well. All of his music not only sends a message but reminds us of our harsh history…. the good & the bad. Much respect for you both.
