The metal in Halian's hair decorations shows her transformation during the series. She started out very soft and unassuming with no hair emblishments or makeup. As the years passed she became hardened and skilled in palace intrigue. Her outfits, jewelry and hair decorations changed as she did. By this time she can scheme and plot with the best of them. One could say she surpassed them.
I did a tally a couple of years ago on the deaths in the palace. Fucha, Jia and Yawan were responsible for all the deaths. I don't remember who killed the most. It was split up fairly evenly. Fucha did it to keep her position and ensure the high standing of her tribe. Jia did it to ensure the 4th prince would become the crown prince to make her tribal leader happy. She always put his lordship over the emperor and her sons. Yawan did her's out of maliace. She didn't even mourn when 2 of her sons died due to illness. She thrived on causing pain to others. If it advanced her goals, all the better. Fucha died of poor health from the death of her sons. Other sites have said she also was poisoned. She was being plotted against by several people. Jia died by her own hand after losing everything. She was demoted to a commoner and her sons taken away from her. She also found out her lordship denied her being a legitimate member of his tribe. Yawan suffers for many years to pay for her crimes. She was finally poisioned with arsenic after many years.
